It’s like this bro. I have not been the most kindest person to Manny fans in the past but i need to be for real here. I, at this moment, am building little no respect for Floyd fans. To me, they are just happy that Pacquiao lost instead of how this boxing match went. We are not mad because there was no slugfest we are mad because there was NO BOXING from Floyd’s tactics. Watch the Haggler/Hearns fight, watch the Ali/Foreman fights that will show you what actual defensive boxing is and much more what a real fight is. Boxing is a fight sport… i am not going to praise a guy who ran the whole 12 rounds and just clinched his opponent to get out. The more i read from floyd fans claiming this as “scientific” the more it becomes obvious that the current boxing fans are nothing different than fans of the current rappers of today.
Yeah and no one should praise a guy stupid enough to run straight ahead into a guy with superior reach.
People can piss and moan about Floyd all night long. The way Manny was fighting a ton of Boxing scrubs could’ve beat him that night. He fought terribly. He didn’t deserve shit, and it’s a damn shame. He fought harder actually getting the match to happen than what he actually did in the ring. I WANTED Manny to win. I wanted to see it. But he acted like he won just getting the fight to happen and now he has every excuse in the book afterwards.
Manny fought terribly. Why he didn’t come from angles like he always does makes no sense. However the use of the clinch should only be an escape when severely hurt, not an offensive tactic. Leaning your body weight on the opponent, grabbing their arms whenever they get close, all of that stuff is BS. As Zatacon said, no it isn’t about having a stupid no blocking, people throwing 100% haymakers. Most people love great footwork, beautiful spacing, body positioning. However what the fight looked like in the first few rounds, was Manny desperately trying to get in. Floyd keeping his space and peppering him with jabs. Finally when Manny gets in, instead of using his footwork to get out, he hugs. Then rinse repeat. This is why not only casual fans, but even many former pro boxers thought it was a lame fight. That is why he got booed by his own countrymen.
I mean if excessive clinching and leaning bodyweight and all that other illegal stuff can be considered scientific or strategy. What’s next? Sneaking in low blows by shielding the ref’s view with your body? When close sneaking in headbutts (some have already been accused of this)?
All strategy should be done within the rules of boxing, and the refs need to enforce the rules much more strongly.
Another layer is the fight should have happened 5 years ago, instead it was two old men battling it out in the ring. 38…36? Seriously? When is one’s athletic prime? Yeah it is before 30. Pac’s style doesn’t age well, it is all about speed, flurries of punches.
Obviously there will be no rematch, but really who is Floyd going to fight? I mean it is pointless for him to just face some journeyman, that he just steamrolls. No one wants to see that.
So apparently it is “true” that Manny had a sholder injury and reported it around 6pm May 2. There is so much controversy now involving the win. Manny is like Dbry during the RR right now but showing shades of heel turning. I have never seen such a dramatic heel turn of a pop culture hero since Bash at the Beach 96. Floyd’s face turn is top notch too but still disliked… Floyd is like Cena, using nothing but lame ass 5 moves yet being so effective and being hated as hell by the fans. You see Vince Mcmahon this is how you should make continuation storylines now by giving good reasons why a rematch should happen. You just repeatedly stuffed down repeated feuds with no reason.
If your cry any more, you’re going to have a sodium deficiency.
The only way this wasn’t a fair fight would be because Pac’s camp was too dumb to note that he was injured so that he could get his meds…that is assuming that their story is true, which it probably isn’t. But anyway…
My boy is over here trying to tell me that Fury is gonna body Wlad. Not seeing that happening at all.
Agree Manny lost and all that yada yada. As an innocent bystander in all this… I heard Manny tried to get shots for his shoulder and was denied apparently.
my god. This is brilliant! Both already made more money than 90% of the people on this planet will see in 200 life times from the first fight. Now imagine if another fight happened with an “injury free” Pacquio? Dudes will make another 100+ million.
As someone transitioning to MMA you need to alter your stance a lot. The boxing stance does nothing against leg kicks which can seriously impede your ability to fight. The lower guard often helps to ward off takedown attempts as well, you show too much space low people shoot you. One thing I think more MMA fighters could improve on is their general boxing though, guys like Alexander Gustaffson who box really well are phenoms in the ring. I’d love to try my own hand at that, using what I know of boxing that straight MMA guys don’t and working in stuff like ground and pound like the early greats like Mark Coleman and Fedor. Not saying I’ll ever be a tenth of what those guys were but as a guy training and as a guy who could end up coaching if I’m ever successful I have ideas.
Well both lawsuits have a point. If Mayweather lied it is effectively slander, destroying someone’s reputation which could have a major negative impact in the person’s life (personal, work, etc).
I get the Pac suit also, hell no would I have paid to watch the fight if I knew Manny had a torn rotator cuff. A lot of people spent a ton of money to watch the fight, and I’m sure many would have passed if they knew one of the fighters was injured. I don’t know if it will hold up in court, but seems Pac hid his injury to get the massive payday…which in essence screwed over the consumers.
