Typically your coach does it, lol. I never used laced gloves unless I was sparring, but otherwise it has always been the velcro gloves.
Actually anyone know of some good boxing shoes? I am using my old ass wrestling shoes now, which are great, but I would love to find a great boxing/wrestling hybrid if possible.
If theyāre the laced ones youāre shit out of luck (i havent seen a pair like that in a while.) Usually any gloves will have a velcrow strap so if there is lace, you can tie them lose then use your teeth to strap over the velcrow. Slide your first hand in with 2 hands, then second glove you usually can hold the glove in between your legs. And as long as you have it loose enough your hand goes in NP and then you can fold the velcrow over with your teeth LOL. Thats what i did for years. I had THE most annoying pair of sparring gloves too (they had that piece of fabric that you have to pull up to get your hand in then back over to cover the velcrow when youāre done. But you will develop a system usually.
I had a really nice pair of shoes that i just tried on the other day from when i was fightingā¦ That said i think theyāre probably too soft for wrestling and i forget what brand they are!! My pops has a pair of everlast that are way more stiff and I think would probably be better for wrestling, but to be honest I dont know what a good wrestling shoe would even look like. That said you can get a good boxing shoe for around 100$
Well typically wrestling shoes can double up as boxing shoes. The pair of wrestling shoes I have now were given to my by my coach work really well. But they are just worn down now, because I wear them on leg day at the gym.
Interesting. Does the stiffness matter persay? Like would a softer shoe typically be better or stiffer? Because with boxing shoes they typically make them to provide support around your ankle and force you to bounce around on your toes. Would that be helpful for a wrestler? Im just curious, wrestling is quite alien to me.
Its the same for wrestling shoes. For example one of the pros at our gym had some mid top Adidas wrestling shoes that he loved over the Title boxing shoes he wore in matches. From my experience, the shoes I have are somewhat stiff, but they fight my style well. I am more of an in fighter and do a lot of lateral movements and forward movements, it was great for having grip but not too much grip. I think a fighter who uses footwork would not find them as comfortable.
These are what I have currently. When I find a boxing gym here in Chicago I will probably get a new pair of shoes.
Iām on the fence with Wilder. Dudes power is legit, but from the looks of who he has been fighting it seems kind of padded as far as the matchups. Also apparently when he sparred with David Haye he dot downed, and Haye is a cruiserweight. I need to see him be taken to the limit first.
