The Boxing Thread

Conor threw more punches than some boxers, but most of it were weak ass, tapping punches that lacked power. He had his hands down A LOT due to fatigue later in the fight, and I am surprised that floyd never threw haymakers when conor did that tapping punches with his arm extended, and not guarding. Floyd was carrying him early in the fight. Conor never rocked floyd like maidana or even zab judah. Conor got stopped by a 40 yr old man who never fought in 2 yrs.

how does anyone give floyd rounds 2 and 3 at all? lmfao wut?

My guess is that the judges weren’t all too impressed with McGregor rabbit punching and hammerfists those rounds. I get the feeling if this wasn’t seen as a unique spectacle the judges would’ve deducted even more points from Conor.

the jabs and uppercut came from those rounds. makes no sense why he wouldnt win 2 and 3. especially if floy isnt doing anything…he wasnt even tryin to not get hit.

Of course there would be some bias by the establishment; the only other bonus I could fairly give Floyd was that he dodged many if not most of Conor’s punches. I gave Conor rounds 1-3 as well so I was pretty surprised looking at the scorecards this morning.

Funny thing is Floyd’s strategy was so transparent but the McGregor fans are making it out like smirking Floyd was trying to take him out in those rounds. Those rounds were clear freebies.

GF was on the phone w me on some sad shit so i only half paid attention to the fight…didnt xpect connor to do so well w the jab in the first few rounds, it was a weird awkward fight with all the turning around and taps on the back of the head. floyd downloaded him and put him to shleep tho, like i xpected

Brendan scrub needs to understand that Floyd last night at the age of 40 had zero respect for Connor’s power, which is pound for pound one of the hardest in MMA, that’s because he didn’t see any type of threat in front of him. Floyd literally walked him down, a tactic he would have never use on Pacman or 99% of the people his fought. Don’t get it twisted, put Connor in there with Canelo, Pacman or any up and coming young boxer today and he gets stopped in 2 rounds.

Also none of Floyd’s opponents in the last few years were close to being knocked out. In hindsight Connor didn’t do as well as people thought he would and Floyd could have ended this earlier if he decided to throw more punches in the earlier rounds.

I lol at people who think Mcgregor, was of his own volition, beating Mayweather in any rnds. Ha!

Floyd is one of the biggest and smartest scam artists in sports, ever.

Everything that happens in his fights is all ok. It’s ok for him to runaround but it wasn’t ok for other boxers such as DLH during his fight against trinidad;
it’s ok for him to over clinch but it wasn’t ok for Vlad regardless of clinching less; when he rocks an opponent the fight has to get stopped but when it came to other fights like Cotto/Malignagi, Pacquiao/Hatton (or even Horn) the fight still had to continue regardless of the opponent getting knocked down and warned by the ref of a stoppage. Mcgreggor was going to lose but they really shouldn’t have stopped the fight just yet. Let floyd KO the shit out of him if he can…

Umm, no. Thats an amateur in the ring vs an all time great. I think the stoppage was warranted.

pretty much. floyd walking down on mcgregor was totally uncharacteristic compared to most of his fights. he had no respect of mcgregor’s punching power. mayweather was never in any danger at any point in time during that fight. it was probably the easiest payday he made in his entire career. looking forward to canelo vs ggg.

I woke up expecting to see Floyd winnig by UD, not by TKO.
Still, it was entertaining to watch the recap of the fight so I’m fine with that.
They’ve earned themselves some big moneys, everybody is happy.
Can we now please have some kendo\fencing vs archery or smth?

I agree with all of that but this is 29 year old MMA fighter with some amateur boxing experience. I’ve said it before, pro MMA boxing is a joke compared to the real thing. Conor exceed all expectations, I just think you guys are just shitting on him and ignoring just what a huge accomplishment this is for someone in his position.

Nae, if Conor went 10 rounds with Canelo I would at least be forced to respect him but against Mayweather who won half assed I still say Conor make a cunt of it sans pay check.

I think the ref spared McGregor unnecessary brain damage. Connor was no longer in a position to defend himself. The ref did his job.

This fight was Mayweather’s from the first bell. After that uppercut connected in the first round, Floyd knew definitively Connor wasn’t knocking him out (Connor claimed it wouldn’t go past 4 LOL). Connor stepped in that ring at 170 pounds, 20 pounds heavier than Mayweather, and he was taller too, yet that uppercut did nothing, and it was the most impactful punch Connor landed in the whole fight. Other than that it was Connor pulling every rabbit he had out of a hat and watching it fail as he ran out of gas. Floyd uncharacteristically walked toward Connor with little movement because he knew he wasn’t in any real danger. It was hilarious to see the announcers hyping it up as if McGregor’s skills were making Floyd switch up his style, when it was really his absence of skill that was doing it.

People are reacting to this much differently than the Pacman fight, even though Floyd took a low risk route in that fight was well. The difference was that Pacman is an actual boxer so a low-risk fight with Floyd is going to be much less exciting, because Pac actually has the potential to knock Floyd out if Floyd isn’t playing his best game. I want to reiterate again that Connor was TWENTY POUNDS HEAVIER than Mayweather yet couldn’t slow him down in those rounds he won when Mayweather was staying right in his face and taking more punches than he threw.

People don’t seem to feel cheated by this fight even though they got hustled. Connor fans and MMA fans get to say “Our boy did better than all those haters thought he would!”, and walk away knowing they had nothing to lose and everything to gain by the fight since the odds were so stacked against their guy. Boxing fans get more validation for something they already knew: Boxing is a honed art and sweet science of fighting than an amateur can’t penetrate no matter how good they are in another fight sport.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they could scam the public into buying into a rematch. All they would have to do is throw a little sugar on it, like make it 6 rounds so the idiots that bet on Connor this fight go “Ya’ know he had him in those first 4 rounds before he got tired so if it was six our boy could go all out and knock him out!”. Ugh, this fight was such an obvious con job it’s giving me 2016 election flashbacks.

canelo vs macgregor would be amazing

This^

Everyone expected some freak show where Conor looked hopelessly out matched, failing to land a single strike, they knew exactly where their money was going, don’t feel sorry for anyone who put their money on this fight lol. Like Maxx said in the MMA thread, Conor had a puncher’s chance, if he’d won the payoff would have been worth it.

*Prop bets. There was a nice prop bet of connor winning over/under 1.5 rounds. *

But he didn’t really have a puncher’s chance, something that allowed Mayweather to uncharacteristically go in and stay in (he usually darts in and out of pressure while baiting for counter opportunities), and is now deluding people into thinking that Connor held his own in the fight. Mayweather could have played his usual game and let McGregor hit nothing but air and tuckered him out by the seventh round instead of the fifth and pointed his way to victory on the cards. He chose not to, which is why I said they can probably sucker the public into a rematch if they want to. The greatest benefit that has is to the ego of the people who rooted for and bet on McGregor, who don’t feel like they were taken for fools even though they were. Pacman-Floyd fight fans didn’t get gifted with that avenue of self-delusion to maintain their egos, so they were pissed.

And now piece-of-shit-person Floyd gets to ride into the sunset on a 9 figure payday, free from the consequences of more of his bad decisions now that he can pay off the IRS and be the most lucrative athlete ever on top of that. No wonder this reminds me of the election. It’s the biggest asshole in the room catering to the FEELS of grown ass men who should know they are being conned and probably do but don’t care because they are being entertained and their egos catered to. This mentality has thrown the entire country for a loop this past year and it sucks to see it play out again, even on an inconsequential scale like in this case.
