The Boxing Thread

I did bet against Pacquiao, and i just don’t get why Vargas boxed when you don’t need to do that to win a match.

  • You really need to let that shit go. Every other post you make in here is in some form an allusion to the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight from last year. I think most people here either like or love boxing and want to talk about boxing at large, and not tie every other match that happens to a fight that happened when 2 past their prime fighters fought each other. *

Vargas boxed because he IS and always has been a patient boxer. He’s not ever shown ‘Mexican tough guy’ tendencies to make it into some dogfight. Guy’s aren’t gonna stop doing what got them that far in the first place just because of who is standing in front of them.

I watched the fight on Korean TV and I thought Pac looked bad, I possibly would’ve thought differently iif there was English commentary. He def won and was more or less landing the important shots the whole fight, but he needs to hang it up IMO. He seemed to be eating a lot of flush shots for no reason and didn’t look nearly as crisp as he did 6-7 months ago against Bradley.

Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev tonight

Both undefeated…

Kovalev is doing a great job of keeping Ward on the defensive and not letting him land.

4th round was close. Don’t know who won it.

How in the blue hell Ward got the decision is way beyond me…

It was close but I thought Kove would have had it with the knockdown point. Ward did win most of the rounds in the second half though.

It was a close fight. Could of gone either way.

That’s probably what gave ward the victory. Sergey got tagged a lot in later rounds. He was also hitting ward, but not as cleanly as he was early on.

My main beef is that every judge gave it to Ward. Yeah, he was landing in the later part of the fight, but sans knockdown, the control wasn’t truly present. He did get the better of Kove in the clinch, though and his movement was arguably better, but he didn’t win enough exchanges to warrant all of the judges giving him the nod.

Modern classic. We need the runback.

Ward’s body work was brilliant. So many trainers harp on going to the body, but it feel nebulous at best when trying to point out examples of it actually working sometimes. That was a perfect example of going to the body if I’ve ever seen it.

So many people screaming robbery, and to them I say yall need to learn how you score a fight on the 10 point must system and how ward EASILY swept the 2nd half of the fight and stole rds from the first, and even with a knockdown and a 10-8 rd, still won…

This is what I’ve been saying. Kov might have done more damage in the total fight but Ward won more rounds, even if by a thin margin. They just mad because one of your main weapons in their agenda is no more. They need ta hold that.

True story. I could see it going either way so I’m not gonna harp on that too much, but Kovalev fought a horrible 2nd half. Those body shots from Ward really sapped a lot of his energy.

*I thought it was a draw after Ward dominated the second half of the fight. There were rounds in the middle that could have been scored in either competitors favor. I can’t wait for the rematch to see which adjustments both of them make.

It was an incredible fight. *

Not gonna repost everything i said on discord but yeah no robbery but arguments can be made for a draw or even a kova win. I watched it on mute and without knowing the score and i had it 114-113 ward just like the judges lmao. Ward woulda won 115-112 if he didnt throw away round 10 tryna showboat

Rematch needs to happen in russia

If Kovalev had not slowed down for the 2nd half and maintained what he did earlier, it would not even be a close fight with so many people split on the decision or calling robbery. He got comfortable knowing that he had a knockdown. Despite all of that, I was impressed with kovalev’s boxing. People were expecting him to turn it into some brawl and go for the KO, but he was very disciplined in his boxing. He hanged with ward, and got the better of him many times. A rematch would be nice.
