He realized hes too smart/good looking/had more opportunities in life than getting beat up. Unfortunately he tried to still act like he was a boxer and ever since the broken jaw became scared after getting hit hard.
Garciaās right though at the end of that article, thereās a lot of politics and excuses these days. But with that said, @NickRocks is it easier to gain 5 lbs or lose 5 lbs? Either way, if I were Canelo, Iād take that as a bit of a slap in the face that GGG would cut for Floyd but not him.
That said though, unless Iām missing something, GGG has the power here. Canelo HAS to fight GGG or he gets stripped, but GGG doesnāt have to fight Canelo. So MJpopcorn.gif
Triple G wants a big money fight. Canelo is a big money fight BUT its not the same thing as Mayweather. If he were to fight Mayweather he would be set for life, win or lose.
Of course heās willing to cut weight for a Mayweather fight lol
I mean it totally makes sense from a financial perspective. Whoās the little latino guy who keeps calling out Mayweather hoping for a big payday?
When did it become the respectable thing to demand a champion lose weight to fight you? Historically, the smaller fighter has always gone up in weight class or at least up to a catch weight. If GGG dropped weight to fight Canelo and then got beat, I wouldnāt even give Canelo full credit for the win.
How does gaining/losing weight affect boxers? I know jumping too high can make you slower/sluggish but iām not sure what other things occur in the process.
Thing is theyāre both Middleweight champions so thats not even the arguement. One of them wants to fight the other one at a weight WITHIN middleweight. Thats where the entire arguement comes in as one wants to fight at 155 and the other at 160. Canelo thinks he fights better at the smaller 155 WITHIN middleweight and wants Gennady to fight at that forced catchweight.
Thats basically it. Some fights feel theyāre styles are best at a specific weight class and jumping/moving weight classes can have adverse effects like being slower/more tired and or the opposite if its a good move of better/faster depending if you had to gain or lose weight. Bigger jumps obviously have a far bigger effect ie. if you look at the way May or Pac fought at the light weight classes earlier in their careers vs the styles of their fights later in their careers.
