Bought and watched Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2 few days ago, excellent picture and sound! Been slowly building up my BR collection, at about 41 now. Eyeing up Predator 2 at the moment…

I’m at 70 or 80-something. I have at least 5 movies I haven’t seen yet, so not buying any until I watch at least a few of them.

I’m not sure if this has been brought up in this thread or not, but so far my only complaint about BR is that why haven’t some of the features that were put into Special Edition DVD’s been put into the BR versions? Perfect example would be Predator, all time classic film for me and I had bought the 2 disc special edition that had the commentary and featurettes. Once the BR version came out I snapped it up but was disappointed that there were no features included.

So far I have not been aware that BR movies get released in two version like DVD’s have been and I hope that doesn’t become the case. I mean with all the space BR’s have on them, surely it shouldn’t be a problem.

I bought “The Fall” blu-ray over @ Best Buy for $11.49 CDN dollars (before taxes) over the weekend. And yes, I did a pricematch over there.

I been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw the trailer last spring. The film doesn’t have alot of top-notch action scenes, but the cinematography in this is absolutely beautiful and stunning, and the storytelling between Lee Pace and Catinca Untaru seems very intriguing.

I may pick this up myself, I did like The Cell which does have some unforgettable imagery and unique scenes. Shame its been this long to see something else from Tarsem Singh…

I actually really liked “The Fall”. The imagery was crazy, and I enjoyed the story. Very different from The Cell.

The simple answer is that studios have been lazy with BD releases in the past. It’s starting to change, though, and Disney is really leading in this area, always being on the leading edge of new profiles and digital copy stuff.

Oh, and it’s BD, for Blu-ray Disc.

Yeah, I got the wall-e bd special edition and that sucker was knee deep in features and extras. I just saw recently that Sin City is finally making the leap and will be available in late April. I must have looked like an illiterate fool the past few times I was at best buy looking for it.

Wow, everyone with their 30 and 50 plus BD’s and I just got my 7th one today which was Sin City. For the most part it’s still too good, but I don’t like how they edited the movie overall and some of the extra footage feels just too out of place. But is worth the money for sure!

The ‘Watchmen’ are coming: Warner Home Video has set a late-July Blu-ray date for a never-before-seen extended cut of the comic book hit.

Despite a domestic gross of over $100 million, ‘Watchmen’ was considered somewhat of a disappointment, as it failed to hit the stratospheric heights of other comic book blockbusters like ‘Iron Man’ and 'The Dark Knight.'

Hoping to give the film another push on video, Warner will release ‘Watchmen: Director’s Cut’ on Blu-ray July 21 (day-and-date with the standard DVD) with 25 minutes of never-before-seen footage.**

Tech specs will present the feature film on a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/VC-1 video (2.39:1) and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray is a “Maximum Movie Mode” picture-in-picture hosted by director Zack Snyder, a pair of featurettes (“Real Super Heroes, Real Vigilantes,” “Mechanics: Technologies of a Fantastic World”) and BD-Live connectivity.

Shared with the standard DVD are “Watchmen: Focus Points,” the “Phenomenon: The Comic that Changed Comics” featurette, and a music video (“Desolation Row” by My Chemical Romance).

Included on a second standard DVD disc is a Digital Copy of the film (theatrical version only), compatible with PCs and iTunes.

Suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $35.98.

Blu-ray Beats Hi-def iTunes in Blind Test

Blu-ray Disc A whopping 92% of the participants in a blind test recently held by the CEDIA association picked Blu-ray over a hidef iTunes movie download. Twenty-five participants were asked to look at two identical 40-inch LCD displays showing the movie ‘Twilight’, one from an iTunes 720p download and the other from 1080p Blu-ray. Participants didn’t know which display was Blu-ray.

The survey was given to 21 women and four men, and took place March 27 in the headquarters of CEDIA. The displays were non-calibrated 40-inch LCDs on movie mode with identical movie mode settings, and connected to the source with high-quality 5-meter HDMI cables. The lights were dimmed in the front of the room towards the displays and on in the back.

This is not considered to be a highly scientific study, but it is nonetheless significant, as it confirms the notion that not only can consumers tell standard definition (480i/480p) from high definition, but they can also tell highly-compressed, lower resolution HD from high-bitrate, high-resolution HD.

Small sample size, but “digital downloads are just as good,” right? :lol:

Toshiba Chief Hints At Launching Blu-Ray Disc Ops

TOKYO (Nikkei)–Toshiba Corp. (6502) President Atsutoshi Nishida did not rule out the possibility of selling DVD recorders using the Blu-ray Disc format when addressing shareholders at the firm’s general meeting here Wednesday.

“It makes no sense to decide not to enter the Blu-Ray market simply because we lost the DVD-format war. We cannot change the fact that we lost, but we would like to keep our options open,” he said.

Toshiba pushed for global adoption of its HD-DVD format, but failed to gain sufficient support from major U.S. movie studios. This prompted the firm to pull out of its HD-DVD operations in spring 2008, declaring at that time that it would not handle Blu-ray products.

But Nishida’s latest remark appears to indicate that Toshiba is considering reversing that decision in light of the significant growth in the market for these products.

Can you watch it without the re-cut, or are you stuck watching it as is on the bd version? Cause I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while and was kinda disappointed to hear about this a week or so ago.

Also, has anyone picked Ghostbusters? I don’t whether to grab this with my meager %10 discount or just grab the regular dvd release which has both 1 and 2 at half the price. Though, I did hear that the BD release has a spiffy PS3 theme on it.

I know this is a stupid question, but can someone explain why I need to spend hundreds of dollars on a blu-ray player and it’s dvd’s when I can just play the movies on my computer and torrent the movies? Obviously I wouldn’t get the special features, but the movie is still in it’s highest quality, is it not?
