The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

What are you guys going to do if HD-DVD is the victor?

Sell all your BD stuff?

(Same question goes to HD crew, if any of them are reading in here)

I have both. For 100 bucks it’s hard to pass up on HD players.

Nothing. My BDs will still play in my BD player. Maybe sometime down the line I’d get an HD-DVD player.

But this seems like a very unlikely possibility to begin with.

i have a combo player with good load time + suppots all the audio formats and does 1080p/24p

so i’m set if either sides loses

I just started buying blu-rays on thanksgiving and here’s what i got so far.

Die Hard Collection
Ocean’s Collection
Mission Impossible Collection
Spiderman Trilogy
Planet Earth
Pirates 3
Troy
300
Last Samurai
Unforgiven
Departed
Blood Diamond
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Training Day
(5 blu-rays free)
Click
Corpse Bride
Invincible
Kiss of the Dragon

OH MY GOD!!! Life is good.

LIES! Keep going! Superbad I say! Stranger than Fiction! Ratatouille! etc. etc.! :badboy:

I have over 1000 DVD’s, i used to buy them all the time when there was sale. Buy a bunch movies I would never buy just to get a huge library collection. Those of you with a huge collection, have you guys upgraded your collection yet/replace dvd?

Since majority of my movies are asian films, i’m curious how are the quality on BD imports?

j&r blu ray sale, just got an email about it

Usually cheapest to get Blu-ray from Amazon.com for no tax & free shipping on orders over $25 (Link leads directly to Blu-ray section)

For this, what do we enter for company info? I’m not trying to go to jail for a free bluray lol

I got this at Slickdeals.com where people got away with saying “Slickdeals.com Public Relations” or shit like that, lol. Personally, I manage a store so I didn’t have to lie… but it seems like they’re not too strict on checking your background. Try putting Shoryuken ARPE Committee.

I’m with Sep on this one, buying BD only on BOGO sales. Superbad is the only exception!

Just saw The Warriors on BD. Can’t say much about the visuals but at least it wasn’t grainy! Pretty entertaining movie. Can you diiiiiiiiiig?!

Sony’s best transfer + they made it look really nice (like when you fast forward or rewind the bar is Superbad themed and when you load it into the PS3 it shows as Superbad Blu-ray with a screenshot instead of the usual BD-ROM). It was so worth the buy. http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FSuperbad-Blu-ray-Jonah-Hill%2Fdp%2FB000WZEZHC%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Ddvd%26qid%3D1197039062%26sr%3D8-3&tag=inevitboredo-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325
Buy it bastages.

So here’s how it stands for me… Planet Earth, Superbad & Stranger than Fiction are the best non-CG transfers for me at the moment and Ratatouille is the best CG transfer & best overall.

Had a bad Blu-ray episode last night. Bought Pirates 3 Tuesday cause my wife and I love the series. Watched the 2nd one on Tuesday since we hadn’t watched our BD version yet, and it was beautiful. Everything’s going ok. Now, when I picked up Pirates 3, I noticed that the back said Video Format: 1080i. Well, the first 2 were 1080p, so I figure it’s a misprint, and pop it in anyways. I’m watching, and thinking, this doesn’t look too good. So, I figured they had two versions. Went online, saw that BestBuy.com listed it as 1080p. Take it back to the store, and go through the lengthy process of returing an item, without a receipt, which, on a side note, ain’t fun. Didn’t want to rummage through the trash though. Anyways, get home, still pissed, and do a little more research online, and read that Disney released a statement that it IS a misprint. AAAARRRGGGHHHH.

Anyone have any info on this? Could have sworn the video did not look as good as the previous two. Thing is, though, that the Cars BD trailer at the beginning was friggin’ spectacular. So, did I waste a trip to Best Buy, and use up my one receiptless return per year BestBuy BS?

It IS 1080p. As you said, indeed a misprint. I think that thinking it’s 1080i could play some Jedi mindtricks on you or maybe it’s cause the 3rd movie is the worst in the trilogy (TRUTH).

personally i can’t really tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p unless it’s 1080p/24p and a movie with a lot of action

I’m about to drop nearly 200 bucks on movies in a few moments.

I’m picking up Pirates trilogy, superbad, ratatouille, blood diamond, final fantasy, stranger than fiction and the departed because of this thread. What’s the consensus on open season and talladega nights?

Open Season was a decent movie & a pretty good looking transfer. Haven’t seen Talladega on Blu-ray, the movie had a couple cheap laughs though. I’d say both are rent-worthy at best.

Enjoy your new Blu-rays. You’re picking up a lot of good BD-ROMs.

Hmm, I’ll have to pick up again, then. Hope my 25% off Borders coupon works on this

Talledega Nights: the Ballad of Rickey Bobby (title alone ftw) >>>>> Stranger Than Fiction. Shake, and Bake. Did you see that cause THAT JUST HAPPENED!

If you haven’t seen it, do so. Not quite Blades of Glory, but close. Also, I hear the extras (commercial spots) are hilarious. Quality is about average for a BD. Nothing spectacular, but much better than DVD.

Open Season looks great, and was actually not a bad movie.

Ricky Bobby is one that you can watch over and over, if only for the quotes. “Dear Baby Jesus”
