The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

Originally HD-DVD exclusive. What I’m saying is they’re moving their HD-DVD exclusives to Blu-ray as well.

Let’s see… Poltergeist is set for a release on Blu-ray & not on HD-DVD… also any future Warner titles set to be released in HD-DVD are also being released on Blu-ray now. The Matrix & Batman Begins were two of the biggest exclusive HD-DVD owners bragged about.

Edit: Charlie and The Chocolate Factory being released as a Blu-ray exclusive as well.

Not yet…Long wait at Netflix. Number 2, behind Christmas Vacation (Blu-ray). I bet the sledding scene is spectacular in Hi Def :wgrin:

:lovin:

Gotcha. That’s what you meant to say, but not what you said.

sigh Isn’t it already on HD-DVD too? Not to be funny, but do you understand what exclusive means?

Paramount is also on the fence about jumping on board with Blu-ray once their contracts expire. If this is the case, Universal will be the only major studio remaining that is backing HD-DVD… which still kinda sucks cause all my favorite shows are made by Universal, but oh well. Taking a look at future HD-DVD exclusive releases… the only one I can say I care about is Forrest Gump. GGPO.

Whoops didn’t know. TBH, I only follow action movies being released on HD-DVD. The only title that jumps out at me is Transformers. Either way, their future HD-DVD releases & Blu-ray releases coincide + we’re getting a couple exclusives as well (I was wrong about Charlie & The Chocolate Factory, but Poltergeist remains). No need to make an argument out of a good thing.

While I would love for Warner to go exclusive (and there are signs that it might), Batman Begins and The Matrix have been pending BD releases for a long time now. Supposedly, Warner was waiting on BD-J and Profile 1.1, since it wanted to include the PiP features and stuff.

Well, I’m fine with a couple HD-DVD exclusives staying around. It’s the source of our beloved BOGO sales after all.

Poltergeist was announced back in February as coming out in 07 but it got delayed til spring 08

And it was announced to be in HD DVd, SD, and Blu Ray. Bill Hunt said the HD DVD was cancelled with no proof and no one else reported it at all

in fact this is from the Warner Website

Poltergeist Coming to HD-DVD & Blu-Ray

Warner Bros. is releasing a new 25th Anniversary Edition of Poltergeist on 10/9 on DVD. They also announced HD-DVD & Blu-Ray versions to be released day and date but pulled both versions a few days later stating production issues with the Blu-Ray version as the cause. Either way Warner expects to have the title out either late in 2007 or early 2008 once the problems are resolved, it’s still possible it could make it out 10/9 with the normal DVD as well. Below is the UPC codes for both versions along with the pricing information. Poltergeist would be the first Spielberg film to make it onto HD-DVD, unless of course Universal sets dates for some of his bigger titles by the end of the year.

To be honest, I’m surprised that the difference in player prices isn’t pushing HD over BR.

There is always a need to argue. Always.

Bitch. :lovin:

The argument here is that, while a $99 player looks attractive to an uninformed Walmart shopper, $30 discs do not. More than likely, people are just using their new A2s to play standard DVDs.

Buy Pirates of the Caribbean 3 on Blu-ray & get 10 dollars off one of the other Pirates of the Caribbean movies on Blu-ray or the PS3 game.

Sorry people who bought it already, this just came up like right now.

But a $500 player with $30 discs is somehow more attractive and viable?

I think what he was saying was that people not familiar with new technologies & the studios backing them are the ones who are attracted to HD-DVD, which is why the sales aren’t devastating the Blu-ray market.

It depends. But a person willing to shell out $500 for a player is likely in a better position to buy $30 media. He probably did more research as well before shelling out the money for his player.

who would pay $30 for either blu ray or hd dvd?

i have about 160 split between both formats and the most i spent was $27.99 on one disk

the only one worth > $30 IMO is Planet Earth

:u: Well, I assume you know what I meant by that argument. I don’t really buy BDs outside of BOGOs either.

At any rate, here is a VERY biased article regarding the state of HD-DVD and the format war.

Of course, I don’t buy this bullshit for one second. Samsung’s new player is dual format and $799, so who is more likely to buy it? BD users. Onkyo and Venturer are jokes, and the Venturer player is actually a rebadged Toshiba A2 anyway. Toshiba is gearing up to price out every other HD-DVD player manufacturer with its fire sales (how do you compete when Toshiba is basically giving its players away?). Harry Potter is actually better on BD because the supplements are in HD while they are in SD on HD-DVD. And there was no Black Friday stalemate. Blu-ray media outsold HD-DVD by a 72.6:27.4 ratio that week.

I can’t even argue this because it’s all baseless assumptions. Come on Sep, you know better. Since I’m bored I’ll play along. But the person who spent 100 dollars would have MORE money left over to buy DVD’s! he probably did more research and realized that he would save more money this way. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I’m not ashamed to admit that my entire bluray collection was free lol.

Someone’s getting Ghostrider on Bluray from their secret santa…

i mean like you can get any disk for cheap

ebay, half.com, amazon, amazon marketplace, BOGO, FYE mail in rebates

so many sales out there

i dunno why you’d goto best buy/circuit city and drop $30-$35 for a new disk, it’s pretty ridiculous and hurts the format IMO

superbad blu ray MSRP was $42.99 and at FYE in store they were selling it for that price, why would anyone pay that much.

i don’t think we’ll see mass adoption til the prices are on par with regular DVD’s

even with these BOGO’s i find myself buying movies i don’t want because i’m like well it’s just $10, or just $12!

if the prices were more like $14.99 for catalog/$19.99 new ones maybe $19.99 for catalog if they have a lot of special features (i.e. Blade Runner), $24.99 for 2 disk/combo disks i think it would help the format much more than $99 HD DVD players or BOGO

Yeah, I wish the stores had the same prices as online stores atleast. My Circuit City sometimes does price match when I show them the Amazon price, but not too often. I heard Walmart does it a lot, but I’m friggin too lazy to drive there and deal with the horrible location and horrible workers.

:u: I agree. But I don’t think that will happen until one format gets phased out and HDM starts to compete with DVD for real; in the interim, I don’t mind having to wait for BOGOs and such to get my media.

Yeah, there’s only like 1 Blu-ray movie every 2 months that I won’t wait for a sale on. Not counting this month… I’m buying like 5 on their release dates.
