The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

I finally got my 5 free blu-rays in the mail, w00t :lovin:

sent my money too. thx for taking care of all this sept

just watched in the valley of elah and michael clayton on blu today

both really good transfers of over rated movies

i dunno why people can’t just put the movie trailer in HD on the movie, or even in SD

I’ll be waiting until June to pick up Pioneer’s new VSX-1018TXH-K. 130 Watts of power for $599.00, and video upscaling to 1080P over HDMI :lovin::lovin::lovin:

Hopefully by then I can pick up a good BR player for under 300. I don’t need to be overpaying for decoders on the player I won’t be using.

The 1018 looks like a very capable receiver. HDMI 1.3 + Upscaling + Decoding = the grand slam. I have a hard time trusting Pioneer’s non-Elite AV receiver line. I know most of the negativity towards the 1016 and 1017 were because they didn’t support HDMI audio, but in addition to that, they apparently run hot, which is a really bad sign for an AV receiver.

Can’t judge the 1018 by its predecessors though. It’s impressive that Pioneer’s non-Elite line jumped from the most HDMI-unfriendly to the most fully-featured in one generation. I hope it works out well for you man.

PS. Get a Playstation 3!

Yeah. I saw Michael Clayton in theaters, and I almost fell asleep during that boring shit. I could’ve told you not to waste your time.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is nearly equally boring, by the way. And it’s a lot longer, too. Don’t bother with it.

Oh, and regarding the Amazon Prime, I have everyone’s info but Adam Warlock’s, since his PM box was full.

oh i got ass of james in blu ray, i thought it was alright

too much edge enhancement in the nature scenes tho, the mountains and everything looked fake

but the blu ray only has a short documentary about jesse james, which was interesting, but i wish they had more

A couple good prices at Best Buy…
The ones that stand out to me are The Rock for 14.99 & The Host for 14.99

So the Amazon Prime matter has more or less been settled.

To further Sep’s post, just watched the news and Toshiba is suspending HD DVD production due to lack of sales. It’s official now.

really?

TOKYO - Toshiba may pull the plug on its high-definition DVD format but no decision has been made, the Japanese electronics maker said in a statement Monday.

Toshiba Corp. has started a review of its HD DVD business, it said, amid reports by the Wall Street Journal and Kyodo News agency that Toshiba was considering pulling out after losing ground to the competing Blu-ray disc format

“may” doesn’t mean official

“Sales have been hurt since Warner’s decision, and we are considering different options,” said Keisuke Oomori, Toshiba’s spokesman, according to the Journal. He added that nothing has been decided, the newspaper said.

Sounds like they’re still undecided. I hate how other media outlets are trying to make the decision for them. If they want to continue making HD DVD let them, but everyones acting like once Toshiba drops out HDM sales will go through the roof.

I don’t understand why all the media can’t just wait for them to make a decision, instread of forcing one.

One thing I was wondering too. BDA blames lack of HD adoption on this “war”, what happens if 6 months from now sales are basically the sale or only slightly up, then what happens. Will the recession be blamed?

So what do you guys think of the console war now? I remember the PS3 was blasted for being continually delayed for release, the price being sky high and the console was clunky and glitchy. People here were saying that Sony is losing their edge and don’t know what the fuck they are doing, and microsoft and the xbox is the future.

Now we know that the PS3 was a sacrificial lamb for the blu-ray and it paid off handsomely. This means more to Sony than having the PS3 crush the xbox360 which they could have done easily given their experience and doing away with a blu-ray drive. You can now look forward to a kick ass PS4 that will dominate the console wars again. the people at Sony aren’t so dumb after all eh?

Sony learned their lesson from getting beat down by Matsuhiko or whatever the company was named that made VHS, when Sony was trying to push Betamax.

Anywho… Blockbuster thinks I returned one of my DVDs for some reason… and I still have it right here in my hands. They probably fucked up and logged someone else’s in as mine. -_-.

I didn’t grab it from the web if that’s what you’re going off of. I saw it off of mpls t.v. news and I swear I didn’t hear a “may” or “maybe”. I could be wrong but I don’t think my ears are that bad. Or it’s possible that Fox 9 news doesn’t know what they’re talking about seeing as how journalists never embellish anything.

oh nah, its typical internet age media reporting

its like that telephone game when you’re a kid

but this one appears to be true since there’s a press conference scheduled for tomorrow at 5pm

but yea according to the internet and reputable sites this is the 10th time HD DVD has died in the last 4 months and it didn’t seem like anyone printed a retraction the 9 other times

apparently toshiba is pulling the hd dvd players from the shelves, so if you want one nows your chance

who knows if the software will have a “fire sale” or if the stores will just return them to the studios

Yeah, Toshiba hasn’t actually said anything other than its usual, “No decision has been made as of right now,” which means pretty much nothing.

oh well bring on there will be blood and sweeney todd in april to blu

they better not be delayed

and i hope this will wake Weinstein up to release some movies on blu

The Mist, Halloween, Grindhouse, Who’s Your Caddy (!!!), Diary of the Dead

i hope there’s no lag and some titles don’t get lost on their way from HD DVD -> Blu (i could see that happening with Universal)

Say Disney starts putting its animated movies on blu-ray…does this mean we’ll possibly get multi-language versions that include more than just spanish (japanese, maybe?)?

it seem’s like blu-ray is winning
