The Blu-ray Thread v1.0

I don’t mind people being red-friendly. I think people have a right to like HD DVD. It’s just so fucking pathetic that they think if they’re pro-Red, they gotta be anti-Blue.

Then it gets to the point where they become sports fans and cheerleaders. They gotta put somewhere in their signatures how much they LOVE HD DVD and how much Blu-Ray sucks dick, not to mention how many HD DVD titles and how few Blu-Ray titles they own.

Every time there is good news for Blue and/or bad news for Red, they either adamantly refuse to realize the truth about how HD DVD is going down the shitter or they start screaming and stomping their feet about how things SHOULD have and COULD have been if Blu-Ray didn’t ruin their lives for all of eternity.

I seriously think that the sportsfan mentality has taken over the internet. Whether it’s PS3 vs X360 or Blu Ray vs HD DVD, if you side with one, you gotta hate the other. I wish people could just put their fucking pom poms down and just buy what they want, without having that incessant need to justify their purchase by verbally shitting on all of its competitors every chance they get.

PS. HD DVD SUX OMG ROFL LMaO!!!1

PPS. X360 SUX EV3N MORE LOL HAHA OMGOWNTBBQ!!!11!!11eleventyone

Yeah, now I have no doubts about it… I’m going with Netflix. The first 3 movies in my queue were sent to me today (and they’re pretty recent Blu-ray releases) & it’s projected to come tomorrow. As for Blockbuster, none of the Blu-rays in my queue were sent… and it dropped down to my 14th/17th/18th picks in my queue & it’s projected to come Monday (which will become Tuesday since the post office isn’t working on Monday).

P.S. Anyone else’s Amazon B2G1 order taking forever to ship?

:u: Yes, mine is taking forever. I ordered 5 discs (I know. I ordered two just hours before the damn sale, so fuck. Although those two weren’t included, but still. Fuck), and they aren’t here yet. It’s been about 3 or 4 days, so I’m not worried, but they’re usually a lot faster.

Does anyone want to split an Amazon Prime membership with me? It’s $80 total, but you can get up to five people on one account, so it would be $16 each, and it’ll get you free 2-day shipping for any order for a year.

Walmart is now Blu-Ray exclusive.

Yup. Big news this week. Netflix, Best Buy, and Walmart all went blu (and Toshiba is allegedly dropping HD DVD). War’s over.

Maybe now I can get my damn Transformers on blu.

You could count me in for that.

The war was over in early January. Everything after that was simply nature taking its course. There is no force in this world that can stop the snowball that Warner created.

:u: The sad thing is that (in my opinion) Paramount could have been the one to get the ball rolling, had it chosen the right side last year. The studio holds almost as much weight as Warner, but it just made a stupid decision.

Amazon Prime splitters list:

  1. Septimus Prime
  2. epp1e
  3. Dios <-X->
  4. Adam Warlock
  5. SunocO

Get in while you can.

Excellent, the day I have been waiting for has arrived :lovin:

The only thing that remains to happen in the A/V world is for receivers to decode high definition audio codecs AND have HDMI 1.3 switching/upconverting at a reasonable price. Pioneer has a new 130W receiver hitting stores in June that supports HD audio codecs, but so far only looks to support HDMI 1.3 switching for $599.00.

I’d love to upgrade to a BR player, but I think I’ll be waiting until prices on nicely equipped players are sub $200.00:arazz:

let’s do this =]

I have no idea what this is but I want in.

Amazon Prime is basically a yearly membership in which you will receive 2 day shipping on everything you buy on amazon with every purchase.

Thats my understanding on it anyway. i believe its 80$ a year? and were splitting the cost, because like PSN games, its shareable with the main buyer, and 4 select others

i got my b2g1 next day after i ordered

i split prime shipping with someone else before or i would be in

its awesome

You don’t need for your receiver to decode high bitstream audio codecs if your player already does it for you. It’s cheaper to move up to a BD player that decodes than upgrade to a receiver that decodes. By the time decoding receivers hit that $600 MSRP mark, I’m certain that all new BD players will do the same, and retail for a reasonable price as well.

I’m getting a PS3 very soon. Since it decodes TrueHD and eventualy DTS-HDMA, as well as upconverts standard DVDs, I only need to buy a receiver that allows 1.3 switching. Picked up a Denon AVR-788 for $550.

High Bitstream Audio decoding + 1080p upconversion + 1.3 switching + Blu Ray for under $1000, without buying a lolonkyo. :woot:

i don’t think the ps3 will ever be able to bitstream DTS-HDMA or decode it

supposedly the chip can’t handle it

i would love for it to support it tho, i have a panasonic 1080p player that supports it, but it can’t be ungraded to 2.0, but my ps3 can

maybe if they change the hardware, but most people (99.9% i’d say) don’t even have the audio equipment to take advantage of lossless audio anyway.

i have a really nice sound set up (>$10k, professionally set up, room acoustics perfect, sound proof room, etc.) and i really personally can’t tell the difference between lossless tracks and DD+ @1.5mbps

i think when you’re getting that high quality it just really depends on the mixer

if the audio is mixed like shit, lossless isn’t going to help it at all. a superb mix at dd+ 1.5mbps and lossless, i really can’t tell the difference. there’s some disks out there on HD that carry both and i tried for hours to see the difference and i can’t. maybe i don’t have as good hearing as everyone?

thats why i hate on those review sites where people immediately trash a movie because lack of lossless.

i’ll join in on the prime.

Awesome. Looks like we have five. I’ll PM you guys with details.

The war is over, great news. Now I can look into hopping on board the Blu train.

This is actually good news for people still interested in an HD-DVD player as well. It won’t be long before they are going at fire sale prices as stores clear out their inventory, then people can pick up some HD-DVDs on the cheap or simply a player they could use to upscale their DVD collection.

Warlock, clear your PM box, please.
