Tekkon Kinkreet I wouldn’t called a must have… but it’s a decent watch. Looks nice in HD certainly. The one people seem to talk about is “SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorers: The Next”, but its list price is 64.99 & the best price I could find is 51.34 + shipping. I really want it, but I’m definitely not paying that much. Haha…
Anyway, an update on the Amazon BOGO… it went from 92 titles to 89… and from the looks of it, it’s all 3 of the recent Blu-rays - Hairspray, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Cast Away. I got in for Hairspray… and I probably should’ve ordered Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Cast Away just to sell them.
the article’s been updated with direct warner quotes
“The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers,” Warner Bros Chairman and Chief Executive Barry Meyer said in a statement.
Also, if anyone cares… Apple has joined the Blu-ray Disk Association as well.
P.S. Reminder of the Amazon Blu-ray BOGO.
Rumor has it that it’s over tomorrow… not sure if they mean today at midnight or tomorrow at midnight by that. It’s now down to 80 titles as opposed to the original 92 (Hairspray, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Cast Away, all the Harry Potter movies… are no longer available. Don’t know what the other 5 movies no longer in the sale are)
great news i think… i can’t wait for the format war to be over. i know ppl are gonna say about the deals and whatnot are gonna go away, but i doubt that’ll happen.
i just want blu-ray discs to be cheaper to make so i can get a burner. 50 gigs of space!!!
^you and your lack of free enterprise understanding have doomed us all! Without even the slightest of competition, there’s no reason for sony to make blu ray cheaper at all until they see fit. The fact that blu ray sales are so high kills the need for them to lower their price for anything.
the adoption rate for HDM’s will be a lot higher now there isn’t any confusion between HD-DVD and blu-rays. The more blu-rays sells, the production cost will decrease due to producing more.
The proof is in the pudding that BD is the better tech… but I’m more interested in 1 format instead of petty wars that never should have involved retail/end users… wrap this shit up and leave the format wars for childish shit like videogames…
i’m pretty sure hd dvd currently is the better technology
more features, more interactive, online capabilities all which are lacking on blu ray
blu ray finally has PiP, but RE: Extinction PiP is HORRIBLE, worse than any HD DVD PiP i ever seen. people are saying sunshines is just as bad. hopefully its just a result of laziness and not crappy technology
the only thing blu ray has over hd dvd is storage and more studio support. oh and it can stream more bps, but its an amount you don’t even need
Well early Blu-ray titles had inferior pic quality due to inefficient codecs, but that just means Blu-ray has been poorly utilized. BD’s extra storage allows for better audio (DTSHD, lossless PCM etc) without compromising anything else… but if they’re not putting it in the discs then the end user can’t see the advantage… the tech is better but that doesn’t mean you’ll see it in every movie, if ever… another reason why I don’t care which format wins as long as one is taken off the market.
