The Bison Thread

So what are bison’s anti airs? I can’t seem to find anything.

In order of preference: jumping towards hell attack, jumping back hell attack or hp, s hk, c hp (does only 60 dmg or something)

Bison also thrives on crossing under the opponent. The hitboxes on certain characters attacks prevent this though.

also far standing HP if they’re being jumpy and trying to connect with the maximum range of long-range jumping attacks (be careful though, this is easy to bait with an empty jump)

if they’re right on top of you though and you don’t have time to jumping MP… then block. Sometimes you gotta just take it and play defense and wait for another time to attack. Or you could AC, lol (hope you got dem meter gems)
reaction hell attack, neutral jump forward. Obscenely good vs pretty
much everyone not named Heihachi. Bison dominates the air because his
ground AAs are really bad. Worse than ssf4 bad.
Does Bison got some good setups after a hard knockdown?
Most of the times i would do a Devil Reverse setup, but i feel there are better ones.

Thanks to chain combos you can boost into slide from just about anything.

On any counter hit /float state aerial you can also do stand forward to slide.

Those are his best ways including devils reverse- stand mp, stand forward, slide

After a hard knockdown:
-you can usually set up an ambiguous crossup with j mk (it’s ambiguous because of the narrow horizontal hitbox…I like to compare it to st) or more easily a late crossup j mk. Late crossup j mk is better if you’re playing online/against less experienced people because they don’t know to delay their AA reversals or just forward dash out of it.
-hp DR shennanigans are ok, really only good for catching rolls. If it’s not common knowledge by now, the DR can be juggled on hit into cross art to really drive home that rolling is a bad idea. If you don’t think they will roll, a well timed DR can bait out a reversal, but again I wouldn’t use it unless I’m desperate or I think they don’t know the matchup. By the way, DR can cross up too.
-crossup lp psycho crusher into c lk, c mp, c mp xx hp psycho/super
-crossup ex psycho crusher
-meaty is always an option. I find that cl hp is better to bait out counter hits and cl mp is better for staying at a frame advantage.
-walk back, dash in throw or walk back, dash in s lk (I would strongly advise NOT doing c lk since if they try to cross counter they’ll get a raw launch instead which will own you).

I want to make Bison/Kaz my main team. Also thinking about Bison/Vega, despite the low damage.
I only ave one question… why do they make Kaz/Jin unstoppable, Heihachi good enough, but don’t seem to care about Bison?

He’s fucking M.BISON for Christ’s sake.

My theory has been unpopular on these boards, but to answer your question about why is M. Bison not good in this game I would look at previous games and how he has fit in.
I have played Bison in ST, CvS2, SF IV and SFxT.
ST is a very fast paced game, due in part to the high damage/low life. Two combos and most characters are either dead or near dead. Bison is competitive in this game because he has the ability to deal good damage off of a random attack and has solid footsies, but he is not stellar because his design flaws give him absolutely terrible matchups (Honda, Guile, etc.). In this way I would say that he is unable to take advantage of all the systems offered by the game because he has no escape options and limited ways to deal with certain types of pressure.
CvS2 is a very open ended game. Because of the numerous systems and huge cast, I would say that this game does a good job in catering to many different types of character style. It does seem to be harsh on fireball zoners because of the numerous ways to avoid fireballs (this plays to Bison’s favor). Looking specifically at Bison, his character design is such that in this game he is able to take advantage of all the major systems of the game: he has a good roll, good RC, he can corpse hop, he can dish out huge damage with his CC, he has a good low jump, average lvl 2 super cancel. He is top tier because he is able to take advantage of all the systems offered by game.
SF IV is setup game. The goal is to set your opponent up in a way that they have fewer options than you do, or you have an unblockable. Good setups are marked by their ability to put the opponent back into the setup state, the so called “vortex”. Bison has unblockable setups, but to my knowledge he is unable to put them back into the setup state and he is also at a disadvantage in his unblockable setup to begin with because the window to escape his throw is greater than other characters. His most damaging combos actually put the opponent back to neutral state. The game also has several other systems that offer the potential for huge damage or good setups: FADC, modified jump trajectory through dive kick or “special” normal attack (Dee Jay j lk, Honda j lk), ultra. Bison has no incentive or ability in some cases to take advantage of any of these. In this way, I would say he is unermarkable as he is unable to take advantage of all of the systems offered by the game.
SFxT has HUGE combo potential. It offers many systems such as: large juggle potential, charge attack dash cancel, cross counter, etc. This game, I would say that Bison is moderately able to take advantage of most of the systems, but does not excel in anything. He has a move that can be charge attack dash canceled, but it is not technically as easy to perform as a qcf dash cancel. He has a moderate juggle potential, but do below average damage from his juggles. He has a great reversal cross counter but it is harder to use that to juggle the opponent. He has no ground, wallbounce that he can take advantage of outside of a tag cancel. He has no overheads. I don’t think he’s bad in this game, in fact I think he’s actually better than a good portion of the cast. But his ability to take advantage of the systems offered by the game is moderate…better than SF IV to be sure, but he is no Jin.

TL;DR the game gives characters tools and Bison character design hasn’t adapted to take advantage of those tools (compare to Ken from ST, CvS2, 3S, SF IV, SFxT) so that is why he is not a knockout character.

Bison is great, but at highest play he’s not going to be the best choice ultimately because of his lack of overhead, and low damage. But his ability to land hits with his high priority normals, walkspeed, amazing air priority vs most of the cast, safe approaches, pokes, escape options, utility and support he brings to his teammate is top notch.

My playstyle is pretty defensive and footsie-based. I guess Bison can handle that!

Cracked Top 8 at Texas Showdown with Bison. He is officially top tier.
