What can Bison do against Hwoarang and Jin?
What advice are you looking for regarding Hwoarang? I have nothing on Jin.
Well, since I typed that, I found that backdashing helped quite a bit against Hwoarang. Against Jin…not so much.
Hwoarang can chase you pretty relentlessly because of his fast dash and other mobility options (special step, lk hunting hawk, etc). If he does pin you down, you need to be very careful. He has a lot of options for staying in and mixing up, here are a few of the less intuitive ones:
-s lk, s mk, s mk, [frame trap] option a: c lp, s mk, mk. option b: stance switch s lk, s mk.
c lp and flamingo stance s lk both hit low.
-s lk, s mp, s mp xx special step xx ex dynamite heel
depending on how delayed the ex dynamite heel is, it may cross you up in addition to hitting high. ex dynamite heel hits after the flip, so you can definitely s lk him out of this.
- dynamite heel, [frame trap] c lp
dynamite heel puts him at +0.
-s lk, s mk, s mk, s hk xx lk dive kick
you need to block high, but he’s not at advantage on block so you could try a s lk, backdash, or ex escape. Dive kick also take a little time to wind up, so you can s lk him out of this.
He has a 2 hit air target combo ( lk mk).
He has a few safe jump and forward/backward tricks that involve dive kicks after a hard knockdown (like hunting hawk).
IMO most dangerous approach that he has is dash in c lp for big damage.
Obviously don’t jump at him, he will anti air you every single time.
You should win footsie wars, his main tool (s mp) isn’t as abusive as yours (s mk, s hk, s mp).
IMO his weaknesses are: crappy alpha counter, worse footsies than you, unreliable dp, average walk speed (but fast dash), telegraphed overheads.
The main thing you want to do against Jin is to whiff punish him. You want to play a mid range game with Jin. His normals don’t reach far at all and if he jumps at you, Hell attack will beat his Jump HK clean. You can also punish his fireball with head stomp if you see it and if they try to back dash out of the fireball they will still get hit.
I never really thought to use Bison in SFxT but at Otakon a Bison player ragequit midround, I picked up his controller and beat someone I couldn’t touch with my own team simply because of standing roundhouse. Are people sure that move isn’t still ridiculous?
Problem with Bison is that my gameplan is very limited: I walk back and forth until I hit a roundhouse or Hell Attack an obvious jump in. I’m going to ask a dumb question, but how are each of Bison’s specials used and how should I start incorporating them into my game? His super jump into devil’s reverse specifically, what is that used for?
