The Bradygames guide reckons the best tag in combo is st.mp, st.hp > hard PC/SK/super/cross art but I can never seem to hit MP early enough for the HP to hit, especially online. Had to substitute the MP for st.LK into st.HP.
Also, the other charge characters, Guile and Vega seems so good in this game. Guile is ridiculously simple and effective. Vega I might leave until later. But geez Capcom really gave Bison a bashing in this game.
Bison seems kind of shitty in this game which sucks since I played him in the SF4 series and he was good. Just not feeling the lack of scissor pressure and combo-ability. Maybe it’s just me but I think he blows, which sucks balls and makes me sad.
I agree with you. I guess we should play to his strength, which is playing footsies. It’s obvious he doesn’t have the tools to open people up. I guess the best thing to do is to play from mid-screen and annoy the best you could with pokes. The time runs out faster so that works in his favor due to his playstyle.
Oh yeah, and his priority is ass now but I noticed that it didn’t only happen to him. A lot of moves don’t work exactly the same as they did in SF4. We still have to remember that it is a different game, so everything is not gonna be exactly the same. I noticed when I fought Gief that St. HK was not hitting Gief from ranges that it normally would and would trade from certain ranges where as in SF4 it would have hit clean.
This is exactly the mindset to have. This is a new game and the SFIV mindset will do you no favours when playing this. Safe pressure is out the window for Bison so we have to think of new ways of approaching things. He has one of, if not the best mobility in the game now and can launch off pokes from just under midscreen. His footsies are amazing so we’ve gotta make opponents very afraid of throwing out a poke as we can whiff punish the shit out of them into launchers/hard knock downs.
If this game was a one on one fighter ala SFIV then yeah, I’d have a much lower opinion of Bison than I do at the moment. As U_D indicated, the worst part of his game is that he has no ability to open up turtles content to run down the clock but he actually doesn’t have to since this is a team game. If someone’s turtling the shit out of you, switch in a high/low mixup character and BAM!!
He has a great set of skills to compliment a more rushdown based character as he can slow down the pace a bit, poke anyone (Vega excluded) to death and open up opportunities for big damage off launchers or hardknockdowns. He has bloody brilliant wakeup options still so he’s probably the hardest character to pin down (As he was in SFIV imo).
I’m playing him as the anchor to my Juri who can open up opponents who are content to just down back and I’m hitting upwards of 300 damage on meterless launchers from Bison’s pokes so I’m happy as a pig in shit with him at the moment.
He can still zone and harass people with his pokes, e.g. into the corner and Juri is disgustingly dangerous once she corners someone. For many characters who don’t have meter or just have bad reversals in general, it’s game over once I bring Juri in with a fireball in that postioning. What combo do you do with her after Bison launches? I just do crouch mp into a fireball to start her pressure. I’m sure she can do something more than that. I posted some footage of that team in the vid thread.
I’m having trouble with its startup sometimes. I try and hit it as a reversal but it doesn’t come out sometimes. I’m obviously hitting it too early or something. To the lab…
This game is universally more liberal about AA, but since the price for failure is so big ( the game ) I feel like I don’t have enough courage to try anything new during matches, save for accidental presses.
No. This is the apology us OG Juri users get for putting up with crap like this since Super… I made a vid on how stupid she was and this wasn’t even half of it lol
terrible. Okay, I had to play with him, and see a lot of other characters in action, to come to several decisions. Bison needs work, a LOT of work. I’ve seen early tier lists that put him really low. I can ignore them, but I can’t ignore his game play. In a game where most other characters can tag in, then bounce your ass around, juggle you, and so on, and some were even given NEW moves that accomplish this, and he has 2 moves that barely juggle, and can’t even juggle into a launch, just allow you to take on another 2-3 hits for piss low damage. I can fight Kazuya or half the rest of the cast, and deal with high low mixups, overheads, ground bounce, wall bounce, juggles, and character change mixups. All of bisons moves hit once or twice, and dont give a huge opportunty to call in your partner or tack on a lot of damage.
As it stands now, the best he is is a good poker, who can setup a launch into other characters who DO work properly. Fuck does he need work. I’ll post more later, when I am less grumpy.
this tier list put him as A. I don’t believe so, and even if it was true he’s still trash because pretty much all the tourny viable characters or ones above him outclass and shit on him big time
he’s really bad in this game. Waiting for some balance patches I will stick with him though because I’m loyal and I can still run the clock with him. I might start tweeting Ono. I’ll supply a link. If we bitch about it enough maybe something will be done. He’s so limited and lackluster compared to other characters because they nerfed his old assets.
He is just lacking in too many big tools. All his moves cause knockdown, or really shitty juggles. After a tag in, the best we get is an extra few hits. They didn’t really upgrade him for this game. I’d love to see crazy shit, like PC cause wall bounce, or some sort of overhead or multihit attack. Would it kill them to make SK hit more than twice for this game? Something definitely needs to be fixed with him. As it stands, you just need to crouch block, and be prepared to tech throws, and Bison is fucked. Hell, even emergency PC on wakeup doesn’t work properly.
Tomorrow, I think I start looking into a new character to replace Bison
