The Bison Thread

I don’t know, I never really played Bison in any other game that’s not SF4, but I’m actually LOVING him in this game. For some odd reasons I also find his links easier.

As for tech roll…isn’t PC a good move to use against that? I’m pretty sure it’s possible.
Also someone mentioned in this thread you could use DR after a knockdown, and track to wherever your opponent is whether they roll or not.

Buuut, yeah, I also think Bison really struggles in getting an opening, especially when alpha counters are in the game.
I agree that it would be best to have a good mix-up pressure character like Heihachi as a second character to deal with that, and to get the damage Bison lacks.

So how have you all been using him? Hope people run into your footsie normals?

I dunno, he seems like one of the worst characters so far to me. Was hoping some of you had some insight as to how he can be viable.

I’ve been in the Training room most of my time with the game, learning Kazuya, so my match up exp isn’t all that great yet, however if there Turtleing you out, wouldn’t you play the match up like Honda vs M.Bison Sf4 style lame?

 If people are downbacking in the corner, I’m content to switch or DR until one of us is budging.

In a case where switching means losing a lot of red life and your team is already on the ropes in terms of the life lead, you’re going to have to get creative with some dash up CADC pressure and grabs (they blow, but you need them).

Yeah you can play that lame shit, but who wants to do that? I do that enough in 2012 I have no interest in doing that in this game.

To answer David’s question yeah pretty much poke all day and a jump in now in again to get a good combo if they don’t block.
He is going to have some problems as people start learning the game.

That and linking into some form of ABC chain from jabs or shorts, while hoping the other dude is pressing buttons. If it hits, there’s usually enough charge for super/EX move or straight out launcher. Can’t really think of any other way, not terribly combo heavy character.

There’s always the shimmy, but I’m not sure how well that’s going to work with the really really slow throws.

Pro’s
As far as I can tell his pokes are the second best in the game. Only Vega has better pokes. He’s pokes are better than Chuns now.
C.HP is a viable anti air now.
Alpha Counter gives him a reversal for when he’s crossed up and would normally have lost charge.
Air to air he’s good.
Excellent wake up options.
EX moves are excellent. EX.DR is a free in.
Has good ways around fireballs.
Excellent mobility.
Safe chip (for the most part) off LK SK (25 damage), 35 off Headpress.

Con’s
Damage output seems low for this game.
Lacks an overhead.
Difficult to make comebacks with him.

What else?

I kinda just thought of something but im not sure on the frame data on this. What if for pressure instead of doing light scissor kick you use the charge dash cancel. I know bisons dash is pretty fast and if u cancel off a crouching medium punch or medium kick maybe you can get some pressure/frame traps going like ryu does of his sweep dash cancel.

What air buttons make Bison good in the air in this game?

His Hell attack is pretty good

Some one who wants to win and not get blow up?

Don’t get me wrong, I want to win at all costs but if I can do it by rushing that shit down I’ll go that route.

Broke off an 11 game win streak with Bison on SRKlive earlier today so he is still usable, not the most exciting character though.

I just want ST Bison back.

 The universe is not ready.

Heres what I’ve been doing:

  • If im playing with gems, i get walkspeed gems. This makes bison throw game much better and sort of compensates for the overall nerf to throws. And really, bison needs this cuz he has no high low to open people up with
  • I am running bison/hugo, but this principle applies elsewhere too: abuse the fact that you can get launcher off a max range st. mk to get huge damage out of footsies. Walkspeed gem helps space this too. If you have a partner that can get easy damage out of a launcher this is a very abusable tactic and will make your opponent scared to hit buttons

Also an important thing I have figured out regarding antiair: St. hk can still be used effectively, you just have to realize how its different and how its supposed to be used. The old st. hk feels like it had more active frames. Not many more mind you, but enough that the new st. hk is relatively nerfed in the antiair department. That being said, if you keep that in mind, you just have to antiair a little later than you would have in SFIV. Also, the hitbox has changed. The old st. hk had a pretty fat hitbox around the knee area. This made it a better antiair in close than the current version. That said, The new st. hk seems to have a skinner hurtbux at the tip so it is a much better far antiair than the old st. hk was.

Tears RIP.

i cant play bison in this game anymore… shits so bad!

What would you consider a good DMG for a tag-in combo with Bison? Either starting or ending with him.

Bison is just not that good in this game. I sat in training mode for hours trying to come up with solid stuff with him and he’s just not that good. His gameplay is even more linear in SF x Tekken than in SF4. At least his SK did force you to block and respect his pressure in SF4. In this game, SK is not even a pressure tool anymore, it’s basically for combos. I’m trying to figure out when you get up close what the hell are you suppose to do with this character to open ppl up? He’s very limited. It’s frustrating playing this character!

I agree. He has even less options in this game. He is more of a hit and run character, battery, escape artist, annoyer, run the clocker but I think he excels at whiff punishing into launcher with stand mk. He is a very niche character who serves niche roles now. He initially wasn’t so hot in vanilla, became a God in Super then was toned down a bit in AE but was still always tourney viable so let’s see if they fix him with any balance patches. I’m still going to stick with him because he feels right to me and my character love is too strong.

edit: also his priority is ass now. Seriously. I could sneeze on Bison irl and it would snuff his stuff. I would love to see his hitbox data (wasn’t in the PDF guide unless I’m missing something) so much stuff beats him it’s retarded.

So far my only success with Bison has been solely off the strength of my SF4 skills… But its way too early for my to write Bison off. The game came out what… a week ago? Lol
