The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

try seimitsu buttons they’re awesome…you get the best of both worlds. A bit more resistance like Happ buttons but w/ a sanwa kind of performance…

By ‘buttons’ I meant normal attacks. Thanks for the tip though!

So, anyone planning on going down to Starbase tomorrow? This is pretty much the only chance I have to go in forever, since I have nothing to really do on Thursday. Also, I was looking through their thread, and it seems like there might not be that many people, since they kinda wanna take a break after NCR, but there still seems to be a good number of people wanting to go. So if anyone wants to go, Zaku can give a ride to people (or if anyone else has extra space we could carpool with you >.>)

Can I have a spot?

Where would we meet, however?

Do you want me to go to BERKELEY BART or do you wanna pick me up at home or whatever?

ANYWAY, yes, I wants to go; will chuck money in for toll/gas (still owe you for last time, actually).

Since we are going north, we could just pick you up at home.

Very nice; we wanna get there around 8PM when stuff starts, so what time should I be ready?

I’ll get off work and get home around 6, maybe 5 if we i get out early. I can go pick you up at around 6:30 ish. I forgot how long it takes to get there, but that should be enough time if there’s not too much traffic.

I was screwing around awhile ago and I notice that even though cr. HP probably gives you frame advantage, the position in which you end up after it’s blocked is pretty important: you are out of the range in which a quick normal would land on a blocking opponent (at this range, you would instinctively throw out standing roundhouse, but it’s not as quick as jab or whatever), hence why you can’t keep the pressure up after the attack is retracted.

Juicebox could probably shut us down because he was throwing out fast normals and was at a range in which he could keep throwing them in a way that would interrupt our normals (such as Dudley’s heavy punch, which I tend to throw out too much).

I learned that, maybe, constantly throwing out machine gun blow (or a special move in general) during a blockstring isn’t the best idea, even if it is safe, mainly because I don’t always know what’s going to happen after the move ends… with fast normals like short and jab, you can still get a good feel of positioning and keep constant pressure: if they try to push buttons, such as slow normals, it’s likely that you’ll blow them up during the startup frames and then you can start a big combo.

Anyway, the point is that you want to keep your opponent blocking and prevent them from actually throwing out normals…

When Juicebox said “if you keep attacking, the opponent will eventually STOP blocking”, I think it means that, sooner or later, the pressure will force your opponent to do something, such as throwing out their own normals (or attempting to tech in fear of throws)… not many people are patient enough to sit in blockstun all day without doing something (I know I’m not).

In any case, walking forward is actually really great… you just have to react and block whenever your opponent throws out the relatively slow and lengthy poke (this involves getting a good read: notice how Vangief would try to close space between him and Ricky by constantly down-backing at key moments).

ALSO, talking about teching, I notice that the space in which it resets is pretty lame… so if you do throw, I guess you have to make sure it lands because when it’s teched, you’re going to be at a range where your fastest normals might not reach (and if they’re not in the corner, they can back-dash to get out of pressure).

That being said, played some more Cammy and I have to say: hit-confirming tiger knee cannon strike into Ultra 1 is ridiculously easy… you only need 2 bars and it’s gonna be pretty obvious whether or not you can land Ultra 1.

I can get up to like 490+ damage with 3 EX bars, so it’s pretty ridiculous.

Anyway, I really like Cammy.

ALSO, did some challenge mode with Vega and he’s pretty neat too, actually…

===================

ALSO, I finally learned how to do Magneto’s 5-fierce combo in MVC2… I can’t do it consistently, however (the execution seems really strict…).

That said, is it possible to do this combo from Psylocke’s DP assist? I can’t get the last hit for some reason…

For once, you make a lot of sense!

Off of Psylocke the timing can be really weird/almost impossible for 5 fierce since you’re hitting someone in the air with crouch fierce instead of a grounded opponent. The hit on the ground is impossible even in the corner if you started with OTG crouch short since you already used up your OTG and can’t spend it on the I reccomend instead of going for 5 fierce off of psylocke you do 2short, 2 roundhouse xx 63214 roundhouse, 2fierce 8 magic series xx hyper grav xx tempest, note you cannot get sweep–> hypergrav

Here’s it in video so you can see it going on

i may make it out to the next session depending on how hungover i am on saturday =/

i WILL be at starbase tonight though.

BTW, DKL, where do you live? PM me your address or something so we know where to pick you up.

We’re always looking forward to some Saks action.

Admittedly, this made my head explode, but it’ll be the next thing I try to learn.

Good stuff and I like the video capture.

As an update (Starbase was awesome and I even got worked by Filipino Champ), walking forward seems REALLY easy with Cammy because of standing medium kick… it stuffs a LOT of things and you just spam it out on your way into your opponent’s area.

ALSO, her standing jab and standing short are REALLY good… I feel like can’t reach anything with Dudley, in comparison.

That being said, I need to practice Cammy this Saturday as I have no idea what I’m doing with her: I keep forgetting that her best punish is a cr. HP combo and I can’t remember which characters the Sako combo works on and in which variations…

Relative to Chun, I seem to be having a hard time just picking Cammy up (probably because I can spam cr. Roundhouse and ex legs with Chun, which automatically leads into high damage situations).

ANYWAY, walking forward is amazing and I highly recommend it: I actually don’t dash forward or use ducking to close in distance as much as I used to and it seems to lead to better results (I somehow roundhouse Counter-poked one of Sakura’s kicks last night, so that was really cool).

I gave in early and got me some sticks! They have a nice 1 for 2 deal here:

Holiday Specials Street Fighter IV - GameShark Store

I got Xbox sticks, but I still haven’t decided what console to get. I thought if I was gonna get a different console than the sticks then I would just spend some time and dual mod it.

Good stuff! Dual modded sticks are also good for tournaments as well. ^.^

Did Dark Awake/chaos breaker ever hit US XBL/PSN? I really want to try that game out so badly! X_X Looks like KoF meets LotR

Cammy’s pokes suffer from the same problem as Dudley’s: they get beaten by most characters’ low forward. Unlike Dudley, she has some counter measures against most low pokes using short dive kick or whiff punishing with her own low forward or st. Roundhouse.

Though Roundhouse has amazing range, note that most characters can get a free jump-in combo if you whiff it.

Close standing short is amazing, I need to use it more.

Cammy’s extremely technical, there’s so much we have to remember and practice in order to maximize damage without dropping any combos (which almost always leads to a HUGE punish).

cr.HP is her best punisher (doesn’t work against Flash Kick), but an easier alternative is cl.HP xx Drill it only does slightly less and requires far less effort.

Chaos Breaker came out for PSN earlier this year, not sure about XBL.

so what time is everyone showing up 2m? i might be there at 5-5:45 pm.

I’m showing up at around 2PM tomorrow.

That said, I’m kinda on auto-pilot right now since I’m fiddling with my new computer…

Dammit, I don’t have any proper drawing software as SAI painter tool doesn’t work with Macs :v

EDIT:

Also, no go on the Botan guys since I’m not going to Japan Town tomorrow (I ended up in SF today).

hey dkl… im gonna have a session at my house tomorrow night, if youre interested hit me up
