The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

I did this and it’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen: no more accidental taunts for me :awesome.gif:

Actually, I did start practicing and I’m currently getting the hang of Dudley’s Cr. HP, St. HK link…

(only problem I’m having at this point is getting Ex Machine gun blow to come out after St. HK… the easiest part of the combo)

The thing does an absurd amount of damage with ultra and 1 EX bar (like 500+)…

I don’t understand why I haven’t practiced this link until now: it can literally win the match.

THAT SAID, is it advisable to counter-pick Zangief with Chun?

Did we decide on where to meet yet? Also, can we bring food and stuff? I was thinking of packing some snacks.

remember, cr. mk juggles into mgb as an anti-air. That said, can everyone make it to the el cerrito plaza bart station by 8AM? I’m going to be getting up kinda early since check-in is at 9. I’ll be bringing along my HRAP3 if anyone needs to use it. As far as food goes, I’m sure as long as you keep it on the DL it should be good. People always bring food to tournaments.

Got my ghetto training done and I can sort of do the Cr. HP, St. HK link now (only seems viable as a good focus crumple punish… but I do randomly land cr. HP sometimes, so who knows?)…

That said, for some obscure reason, I suddenly can’t do the jump-in version now…

Anyway, will show up to tournament sleepy; FUCK YEAH.

Im sad now. My stick is not working properly so I won’t be able to bring it and play, right before the big day. There’s a loose wire in there somewhere but I can’t pinpoint it…

It was great seeing some of the EU peepz and getting some casuals, since I haven’t been there in sooo long, and thanks for the support during my matches.

My friend and I have been looking for ssf4 players in Berkeley and went today hoping to meet some of you guys. What time are you guys usually there on Saturdays?

Edit: Duh, you guys were probably at NCR… Saturday after next?

Saturday after next will probably be at SFSU, but I’m not sure yet…

In any event, we will try to get plans for next few weeks together, so hold tight.

Nice seeing you again, man; yeah, we were like trying to support as many people as possible during their matches, but it was apparently very hard given how many things were going on at once: I was pretty overwhelmed by the experience.

============

That being said, more comprehensive shit later, but great shout-outs to Shytzoo for hosting casuals after-hours (along with pizza and beer); shit was godlike (and we even got to hang out with Juicebox from BLG, which was intense and educational).

Also, props to Ambiguous Crossup and Zakuignited for handling dat carpool; I’m really thankful to you guys because I couldn’t have made it out to such an awesome event otherwise; I owe you both.

Uh, yeah, I should probably go to sleep, but I’m still currently operating on the buzz from the In-and-Out burgers we had last night.

I know you guys said that I would be fine if we ate at IHOP, but I’m feeling pretty terrible right now…

EDIT:

Good news everyone!

I just spent the last two hours suffering from severe stomach pains and trying to vomit this evening’s meal.

The worst is over as I’ve already discharged the foul banquet (I’m so glad the pain is finally gone), but, if I’m not mistaken, I’m going to wake up tomorrow and spend the next several days with a fever and frequent visits to the toilet.

Fuck my life.

That being said, unless I’m looking at the regurgitated food incorrectly, I think what made me sick was possibly the eggs…

But then it might’ve been the ham…

I have no idea, but hopefully I’m the only one who has to go through this ordeal.

Good luck guys.

PS.

IHOP is terrible.

EDIT EDIT:

Reflecting on how awesome Shytzoo’s after-hours meet was, I’m kinda wondering why we don’t have a bar out here in the Bay Area (or at least around Berkeley or some place close) that does Street Fighter AND drinking…

Given how entertaining the thing was, both activities seem to go very well together…

Hope you feel better, DKL

NCR was great. MvC3 was awesome. Kinda strange that there were not a lot of people around it towards the end, but hey, more playtime for us >.> KOF 13 also looked pretty good. It sucked that they didn’t bring it back for the last day though. Now I really feel like playing MvC2 and KOF 2002… I just wish I had more time to learn the games (can’t wait for the school year to end already… >.<)

You are incredibly unfortunate, chances of getting food poisoning are incredibly low, perhaps there’s some kind of ingredient they use that you’re allergic to that causes this foul reaction?

Sorry for telling you you’d be fine, it’s just based on probability it wasn’t likely. X_X

I wish you the best of luck in your recovery.

As for NCR, good stuff all of you, I wanted money matches with more people since I didn’t quite break even for all my tourney entry fees. :frowning:

On the bright side MvC3 is excellent, it sure as heck isn’t MvC2, but it’s still totally awesome and fun and it was great to play with you guys!

Nice Morrigan Rush Down Zaku, and good Doom Manoel. ^.^

If you really want to get in MvC2 practice night times I’m down to play online and get in some practice for sure!

Oh and if you want some character specific info and knowledge and stuff I posted my MvC3 findings here http://shoryuken.com/f340/q-thread-next-play-%40-norcal-regionals-11-20-a-250252/index37.html

Can’t wait to see you guys again and get in some Mahvel 2! <3

It was all “nooooooooooooooooo” when Seth came by and took away the MVC3 machines; god damn it, finals.

That said, I did some MAJOR SSF4 practice today (I can now do a lot of the FADC combos I saw at NCR, in addition to cr. HP, st. HK link), which leaves tomorrow and the rest of the week open for MVC2.

That said, I tried Cammy and she’s amazing: I can do that basic cr. HP, cr. mk, cannon drill combo and tiger-knee spam (plus the cool combo where you do tiger-knee 5 times into BNB combo).

Like, I can jump in all day and get blockstun on opponent’s wakeup from dive kick, but what am I supposed to do afterwards?

ALSO, getting counter-hit seems to be easy with her… what’s a good counter-hit combo?

I don’t know what it is about IHOP that my body seems to disagree with… but, yes: never eating there again, for sure.

ALSO, yeah, you should’ve money-matched Shytzoo for $20; lawlz.

IN ANY EVENT, here’s hoping they have more MVC2 sticks next time they bring the MVC3 demo around; COULD NOT REACH “C”.

Chris, can I get some MVC2 MSP BnB stuff?

==================

ALSO, we need to plan what we’re doing this Saturday: unless people want to go to Hadocon (which seems reachable by BART, but there’s no bus when you get to Millbrae), we are going to EU as planned (and we will see Efren every week now since he has Saturdays off; woot); I seem to not be sick, which is great.

ANYWAY, if I go to Japan town this weekend, I’ll try to bring some Botan back and we can eat it.

EDIT:

No, wait: Hadocon is NEXT WEEK…

In that case, I think I’d rather head out to SFSU since we didn’t go during NCR weekend; I miss the place and we need to support it given that it’s a SCHOOL-SPONSORED event that I consider important since it means that we’re getting money to play Street Fighter.

So, yes, what say you guys?

Hadocon is reachable by Caltrain, after taking BART. Not sure if it’s cheaper to transfer to caltrain from SF or Milbrae though.

I’m leaning towards dojo, since it’s close, and free! Hadocon would be awesome but I try to avoid tourneys that use multiple consoles.

Glad you’re feeling better. I have guilt poisioning for insisting to eat there.

IronMan/Cammy/Sentinal is pretty damn fun for a couple rounds before my eyes hurt. I’m now interested in learning the MvC2 basics though. If only to understand WTH you guys are talking about regarding MvC3

I’m also stepping up my Cammy mixups. Found some new things in the lab, just gotta get consistent on execution, and more confident in my ‘reads’. For some reason I can only perform my Ultra1 35% of the time in the past month, I need to remedy that.

I’m not sure if I completely ‘got’ the lesson Juicebox was teaching us during his trolling, but walking forward is really scary. I drove my coworkers crazy this afternoon (I kept walking under kunai zoning, and causing slides to hit at a unsafe distance). I think I leveled up my understanding of footsies, at least, over the weekend.

Is this us on youtube? None of the matches are me, but I do hear my infectious cackling in the background

Cammy, huh? Her meaty divekicks put you in the opponents’ face for free, and from there you can either do a blockstring, a frame trap, grab, or bait and punish the reversal. It comes down to conditioning your opponent and blowing up their favorite escape options (reversal? focus? jab mashing?).

Cammy can’t always jump in for free. Characters like Rog, Chun, Guile, Dee Jay, Honda, and Claw have catch-all anti airs that’ll blow up both your dive kick and basic jump-in. Despite what Cammy forums say, it’s not that hard for the opponent to adjust their reactional AA for the dive kick pause if they are waiting to AA you deep (Honda’s EX Headbutt and Sak’s c.HP come to mind). However, Dive kicks do blow up AA normals requiring early timing like Rog’s c.HP and Dictator’s s.RH

Cammy’s main counter hit combo is cl.MP, c.MK xx Drill (only works when close or when you have time to walk up). Generally you have to get good at hit-confirming c.MK and c.MP (hard!) and cancelling into cannon drill when frame trapping and whiff punishing.

Oh shit, this is me:

“C is so far!”

God damn it.

Yeah, I’m gonna try learning to do that frame-trap stuff he was doing: you look like you’re going in to throw, but then you throw out a quick poke and put the opponent on blast.

That being said, I need to use my standing normals (that aren’t heavy punch) more as opposed to just always trying to go for the throw… it’s just that I’m scared of whiffing (mp whiffs on crouched opponts, lp will whiff after a certain distance).

Cammy is pretty neat since walk-up standing jab and short actually hit crouched opponents (I think… can’t remember now)… and I think you can abuse walk-up mk as well.

BUT, yes, I think I need to practice keeping opponents in block-stun using fast normals, as opposed to always just going for throw resets (when a throw is teched, I actually don’t know what the hell will happen afterwards since the spacing is kinda reset and it gives the opponent an opportunity to backdash or something).

Like… if you keep attacking, the opponent will eventually STOP blocking.

Cannot wait for this Saturday; gonna practice practice practice (this Saturday… Marvel for the rest of the week).

ALSO, I’ll bring my Cammy and see what happens; I seem to really like her… if only because of dive-kick being awesome (jump-back dive-kick is amazing).

No one will be able to stop the cammy army now!!! BUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH…!!

Let’s have a Cammy Tournament to assign everyone a Cammy army rank!

Fuck yeah.

That said, is the st. MP, cr. HP, cr. Mk, drill only doable if you do ex dive kick?

I can’t seem to get it to work otherwise.

ALSO, what is the input for Sako combo?

:awesome.gif:

Not sure if mirrors are the best gauge to rank Cammy players but a cammy round-robin would be damn good fun! I’m a bit biased though…

That said, I think plasma may be visiting either this weekend or next, so it should be interesting!

you just mentioned the sako combo, it has two flavors:

st.cl MP, cr. HP, cr. Mk, mk drill (easy!) - works on bison, honda, shotos, viper, cammy, chun, rufus, gouken, fei, sagat, sakura(crouching), vega(crouching), blanka (can get both hits on HK drill)

st.cl MP, cr. HP, st.MP, mk drill (hard!) - cody, dudley, dee jay(can get both hits on HK drill), rufus, 'gief

Generally, you have to start either with a TKCS (instant dive-kick) or deep j.lk crossup to initiate the combo. Gouken, Honda, Rufus, Dict, and Chun you can use it anytime (they have the fattest hitboxes).

wall of text alert

I’ve been pondering about this all day. Our biggest collective weakness right now is our understanding of the game. That quote makes SOME sense, but it doesn’t at the same time, to me at least. What reason does the opponent have to stop blocking? And when they do, how do I get the most out of it?

For example, I played a really good Cody some time ago at a session. Cody is generally considered to have poor escape options versus Cammy’s pressure. At the same time, good blocking more than makes up for it. Cammy generally has two really good normals she wants to hit you with: cl.mp and c.HP (best frame advantage, +2). There was a point in one of my matches against Cody where I was able to walk up and make him block cl.mp four times in a row. The fifth time, I stopped in fear of EX Zonk and watched him whiff a grab I couldn’t punish. At this point my momentum is lost exactly because he stopped blocking?

The problem I’m having with Cammy’s normals (cl.mp, c.hp) is that even though they give frame advantage, there’s still a significant recovery before either of us can do anything, giving the opponent plenty of time to steady themselves and react to me walking forward or doing a short dive kick. I tend to get either hit out of my approach by a fast normal and/or getting pushed back.

Maybe I just need to read people’s options better? Or understand my own some more (maybe use DP FADC more on offense, but I’m usually pretty spent for meter).

What’s more confusing is that juicebox was able to lock me down with Akuma’s c.mk and Rose’s c.mp; on paper, both these normals don’t give frame advantage, but I found it especially difficult to deal with c.mk (I found my c.mp was good at stopping the Rose rushdown, kinda), perhaps in fear of those moves being canceled into something else (Fireballs, Soul Drillz, etc.). Maybe I just need to use better buttons…
