The BERKELEY EUDEMONIA Legacy (relocating to the SFSU Dojo thread!)

Chun Li TEs and other madcatz nonsense on sale!

I’m wondering if I should get the PS3 Chun stick…

Someone convince me.

Cammy vs Chun

though I may get Super for XBL soon, dunno yet.

PSN play is infuriating, but it may be my shoddy DSL. I’ll know for sure when I upgrade to Comcast or something.

I should bring my friend kyle (Highlulu) to berkeley with me one of these days. He plays a mean, point-blank all rushdown cammy and back in vanilla when I didn’t know how to play footsies he owned me. Maybe you can guys can talk strats.

Then I’ll hold off…

I’m kinda on the fence since it is a little expensive and I’ve got like a ton of sticks already…

That said, Chun makes me salty online; god damn it.

@AmbiguousCrosup tell me more about this tournament; I’ve been itching to test out my tournament skills for a while. Doing as well as I do at our weekly meets has really made me more confident in my Honda (that and being able to do jab hands unlike before sure as hell helped).

I expect a slow work week, so I may be able to sneak out to that college tourney. I get owned by lag tactics though, heh.

@Rod
Wow, I know Highlulu through my forum lurking, he’s good. It’d be great to pick his brain sometime.

EDIT:
Seems Starbase is having a tourney on Sunday. Might be a bit more worthwhile for us.

Hey guys, quick note:

UC Berkeley’s anime club is trying to get me to bring consoles and shit for their convention on the 16th and I was wondering if any of you guys would wanna come down here and bring setups…

I’m probably going to go, but I need to know if you guys would be willing to relocate for the day.

(it’s essentially the EU meet, but at a different place… I need to ask about pricing)

Uh… more details to follow; I’m still trying to extract more info on the thing.

It’s up to you guys, I’ll have family visiting on the 16th so consider me a no-show…

Hm…

It’s a little iffy: the con badges are worth $10 ($6 short of a Eudemonia pass… but this problem is compounded when considering that everyone has to pay) and they don’t seem to want to give away too many badges for gear…

They’re having a tournament for SUPER and BLAZBLUE, but I’m not certain what the prizes are (might be anime-related freebies).

I think what might happen is that I’ll skip out on the 16th and leave Eudemonia up to you guys during that week…

I’m not sure: if I go to the con, it might be lame since no one really plays STREET FIGHTER (insofar as what I remember of the regular game nights that the anime club has: it’s BLAZBLUE all day) and my X-Box might not actually be useful and I’ll just be stuck there for several hours doing nothing [but Blazblue on the X-Box].

EDIT:

Can someone explain what this game is?

Actually, I’m also interested in getting KOF 98, but am on the fence for whatever reason…

Oh, here is Tourney detail…

They said that we might be able to move schedule stuff around in order to accommodate people, but I’m a little confused how an X-Box pad player would fight a PS3 pad player:

http://animedestiny.silential.com/docs/Anime%20Destiny%202010%20Fighting%20Game%20Tournament%20Rules.pdf

Anyway, give it a look over and see if you guys like.

I find it’s usually best for everyone when the tourney is dedicated to one console. Some players notice the timing difference to the point that it throws off their game, especially if they have to bounce between the two for their matches. The tourney may also take longer if players can’t agree on what system to have their match on (be ready to do a coin toss for this situation). Pad players are resourceful though, so I wouldn’t worry too much as this seems like a casual tourney

No idea about that Battle Colosseum, but it says there’s a demo on the marketplace, may be worth checking out!

A number of the EU guys have been itching for some tourney experience. Not to speak on everyone’s behalf as the tourney starts fairly early in the afternoon, but it may be worth just doing a late EU session so we can show up at the 'con in full force.

I don’t know what time my family is arriving that day, so there’s a -small- chance I may be able to check your tourney out

Your flyer has no info on the location BTW. Where is it being held exactly?

Some solid Juri play here:

As far as the tournament this Friday goes all of the details that I have are in that post I made. They’re going to have other games there as well, I’m just not sure about a schedule or anything. What I’ll do Friday is get there at 10, get the rest of the details from the organizer and post them here asap.

i am a ps3 pad player… but i still play on xbox with a converter (which i have and cost me a retardedly pretty penny). i think xbox to ps3 converters are way cheaper and easier since ps3 doesnt have that crazy controller thing that xbox requires

Seems like the best option as a dual shock player would be to get either a PS2/1 pad and go from there. Last time I checked the converters were pretty affordable. As a former pad warrior (in GGXX, of alll games), I found the PS1 pads (without analog sticks) to have the most responsive buttons (newer PS pads tend to have that mushy pressure sensitivity, not to mention the triggers).

But I dunno, just my 2 cents.

I can help out and bring that TV I picked up, it just needs a RFC converter. And also have a Wii if needed.

If possible, I might just enter all three tournaments :wtf:

About Neogeo coliseum, I haven’t played it but I heard it’s basically MvC with SNK characters. I think it’s based on a modified KoF 03 engine, and has even more infinites than any other KoF game. If you want KoF 98 then 98UM is the best version, since it has every KoF character before 98 with the 98 engine. I heard KoF 02UM was coming out for Xbox Live too, don’t know much details about it though. KoF02 is probably my favorite KoF game.

That super combo towards the end was pretty nice. Is Juri a meter dependent character? I tend to EX pinwheel and EX dive kick too much since I’m not sure if I should be saving meter for something else like her super. I haven’t used Feng Shui Engine that much, I wonder if I should just randomly activate it and see if it creates any fear in the opponent

Juri needs EX for her defensive options, otherwise she can be rushed down for free. EX Pinwheel and EX taunt counter are decent, but both lose to grabs. EX fireball is good for ending blockstrings safely, as some characters (like Cammy) can punish even a blocked light pinwheel.

Her best meter builder is doing empty leg lifts (fireball charges), it takes some practice as you release the kick button (letting go of a previous) after starting up another fireball charge (leg lift).

Oh shit guys, I’m playing Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy IX.

(and Dead Rising 2, which is pretty fun)

Also, apparently, the anime club wants the gear at like 8am…

So, uh, yeah… guess it’s just me on this one, but if you guys are interested in the tourney, tell me ASAP since I can get it rescheduled, maybe…

But, overall, I’m confused.

ALSO, I’l like to go to the Friday one, but I gotta stop screwing around and get studying done…

Not enough studying is getting done (that said, my score needed to get into law school is hovering a little below what I need; WTF, I hope I can guess correctly on that exam).

Man, why does a tournament start so early on a Friday? I’ll still be at work so no go for me.

Btw, Hotrod we should train some Vega Mirror matches and what not on XBL. I feel like I’ve reached a plateau in my Vega game so I could use any wisdom you care to share.
