Zaku, can I at one point have you pick up a TV from CRAIG’S LIST?
(PM me your contact info… oh and tell me in this thread when you do given the unreliability of SRK’s pm notice system)
I’ll do some hunting tonight, but I won’t be able to actually pick up the thing…
Uh, yeah, I’ll just give you some cash over the weekend (in the event that I haven’t picked out a TV by then)… ALSO, I’ll re-imburse you for gas (because it might be in the general East Bay Area).
I’m not really an anime watcher, but Perfect Blue and Paprika are two of my favorite movies. Just found out Kon was the mind behind those gems, he’ll be missed.
I was really looking forward to The Dream Machine…
In any case, yeah, it’s a pretty big loss; anime has had a tendency to be streamlined towards pandering to the otaku crowd and usually devoid of creativity (even moreso lately, I feel, given the advent of the otaku-sensibility of storytelling where plot structures and character archetypes are looking more and more recycled… the worst part being that anime, being what it is, doesn’t actually allow a lot of room for people to do alternative things: there isn’t a large enough pool of talent to do an “indie-film” type scene, which saddens me deeply… that’s not to say that it’s impossible of course: Tomomi Mochizuki recently came out with his slow-moving Samurai show The House of Five Leaves (I don’t remember many Samurai shows where there’s almost no actual sword clashing… which is surprising considering Mochizuki’s specialty for action) and Masaaki Yuasa did Tatami Galaxy, an eccentric show about a young man who regrets how he spent his college years; two titles that obviously set themselves apart from other shows) and Kon was one of the “young” anime directors who was going out there and doing something different (along with the likes of people like Mamoru Hosoda and Masaaki Yuasa).
Amusingly, Kon’s ever-sharp critique of otaku culture has always been of great interest to me: Perfect Blue’s Me-Mania character was just everything that was wrong with the culture tied up into one creepy package (eerily enough, he wasn’t even the actual murderer in the movie, yet his obtrusive presence was undeniable)…
In any event, given the current state of the anime industry, Kon’s death comes at a REALLY bad fucking time.
I’m actually gonna probably spend the next few days doing like a retrospective on his works (which involves watching all of his output: Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, the Paranoia Agent TV series and Paprika); I’m likely going to suck at SF for the next week, but it’s necessary that I get this done and put down my thoughts about it.
For the craiglist tv, i can go pick that up too. I don’t mind it being a bit far, as long as it’s not outside the bay area. I think it’ll be better to get a light tv with a decent size screen. It’s better in the long run if we have to bring it to the EU meets every week.
Wii
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Capcom vs. SNK 2 GCN (I don’t know how good this version is, all I know is that it doesn’t have roll cancel)
Modded PS2/3 Stick
2 PS2 to GCN converters
Samsung SyncMaster 2233sw LCD Monitor
VGA to Component cable converter
Speakers
Surge protector
Also, anyone interested in Guilty Gear Accent Core? I might get it for Wii if it’s a good version.
and finally a Samsung 23in LED backlit 2ms monitor with DVI/one HDMI
I can’t really take all my stuff there from BART but i’m willing to donate my old TV (i plan on getting a new one soon)
it’s a 27in SDTV with AVin the front and back any other stuff I’ll see if i can try and bring them… but yeah DONATING MY TV!!! LOL
Sorry for my delayed response time, I didn’t have my computer at work today…
@DKL: I’d be down to attend both days if the turnout is decent enough. It’s a bit of a trek for me to make it down to Eudemonia from my house and the amount of equipment I’m bringing along is… a lot… Saturday nights is a definite yes for me, and I’d stay until they kick me out. Sundays I’d be able to make it after 1 or 2PM since I hit up the MTG challenge at Collector’s Realm. I’d be more willing to make it out both days if I didn’t have to bring EVERYTHING with me both days. A TV + Monitor + PS3 + 2 (or more) arcade sticks + whatever old console is needed is a LOT of stuff…
@Taozenforce: I’d stay until they kicked me out on Saturday nights, I’m a total fighting game junkie… (^o^);; And if people need rides to BART or somewhere that’s not too far out of my way I’d be willing to accommodate that (although I would have somewhat limited space due to all my equipment).
Guys, someone in my apartment complex just threw out a crt tv!
But, since I hastely brought it in I just realized that there are two problems with it. It’s a pretty big and heavy tv, so it will be a real pain to move it to the meets every week, probably needs 2 people to move it. So if we can’t store it at EU, I might have to leave it.
The second problem, which is more solvable, is that it only has a cable tv input. That means it needs a VCR or a converter to work with a game console.
^^ Lol RF input is so old school. Depending on how bulky it is I dunno if its a keeper or not. Expect a PM soon about the pickup for the sony tv.
@NR^2 Is the complete list the same as your original thread, we can just go by that, if so. We appreciate the rather signifigant contribution.
I rather not spend $30 on a new component cable for the X360 (I hate M$oft sometimes). Anyone got an extra xbox 360 component/composite cable they can bring? Rufio?
Uh… I’m still not on the ball right now given that I’m still scouring the internet for Satoshi Kon discussion (he was apparently diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer around May and did a goodbye blog post that I’m waiting for an English translation of), but I’ll try to start moving around tomorrow (later today).
For now, I think it needs to be said that EUDEMONIA is going to be packed this weekend and they’re apparently going to boot out people who aren’t registered or aren’t logged into a computer (ie. a paying customer)…
So, I don’t know how you guys wanna play this; I’m showing up for BBCS casuals (if there are any) and general hype raising and I think Tao will show up as well in order to scope out dat Melty Blood.
Zaku and his brother are also showing up, but I don’t think it’s to play in the tourney.
But, what’s most interesting about this is the revelation that the shop can actually only host, at most, 100+ people…
If we do our own thing, we’ll need to take that figure into account.
That said, there is speculation that the place is apparently going to heat and stink up pretty bad; I think I have to bring my deodorant with me.
