Sad I missed out on Saturday but I imagine the place was pretty crowded. I’ll be online right now if anyone wants to play a few rounds though!
Gah, damn, I took a nap and wasn’t able to get games in…
ANYWAY, I’ve accepted your friend request and we shall game in the near future!
Hey DKL. We already have 53 people pre-reg’d for the tournament (a quarter of them are traveling over 400 miles to make it); I know that there are lots of people who haven’t signed up yet. Considering how Brokentier, TheBBVlog, Iplaywinner, and Skullgirls Exhibition () plus the 15 setups we have going - solely - for tournament use, we might not have the luxury to put in your setup. If you are going to pay for the venue fee, then I’ll fight hard to get you some space. All I ask is that you pre-reg prior to the tournament (just click on N/A for all of them). I don’t want to make any promises. Given how this event is turning out to be larger than expected, there is a possibility we need all the setups we can scrounge.
Keep in mind that it’s also going to be cramped.
I’ll likely pre-register since I’m assuming that I can get some casual BBCS in (you guys will have Makoto on tap, right?)…
(except what exactly do I pre-register for? I get there at like 2PM and I’m assuming that most of Blazblue will be done)
But, yes, we should likely surrender the extra space to you guys next week in the event that you need it (what I mean is that if you need the X-Box area, you should likely take it as well… though, yeah, having at least one of the shop’s X-Boxes open for SUPER Street Fighter IV casuals would be cool and we’d totally appreciate it)
THAT SAID, I’m still trying to fish around for setups and would need some help with BLAZBLUE; can you put in a good word for the venue in the event that BBCS people need a space to host in the future (but it seems like space isn’t really an issue for the BBCS crowd going by what was talked about in the Dustloop Norcal thread)?
I’d really like it if we had a Blazblue component to the weekly meets… but I can’t do it myself given that my gear has to primarily be used for SUPER.
EDIT:
Wut, lawlz, that wasn’t hard at all; I was under the impression that I needed to pay in advanced, but pre-registering was pretty simple (but I’m not entering any tourneys).
EDIT EDIT:
Yeah, posted on Craigslist…
I don’t know; I’m just taking a shot in the dark here.
cuz i don’t know if everyone has seen this…if you are gonna watch this hit play all
I have a few things that I can bring to the meets if the $3 thing is happening. I have a PC monitor with a vga box converter into a component connection (probably didn’t say it right but what I mean is that it can be used for any console that outputs 480p or higher, not lower.) As for consoles, I only have a Wii and TvC (also have CvS2 for GCN but who wants to play that…) I can bring my setup for TvC but we can also use it for any other consoles if someone else provides the setup. There’s that stick I have that I modded myself from a mayflash stick with Sanwa parts, burnt myself with a solder a couple of times but I think it was worth it. Also have an extra surge protector with 6 outlets if needed, and also those crappy speakers I brought with me the other week.
I did some research on lcd monitors and input lag and found out some interesting things. I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2233sw and it supposedly has an average of 12ms of input lag. There was some info about how a vga connection reduces lag a little bit, but I don’t know if my vga box adds any extra lag or not.
The consensus about input lag seems to be that 8ms is ideal, and between 9ms and 34ms is playable. Im a noob at this stuff, so I cant really tell if there’s any input lag unless it’s really bad, I play TvC on it and it doesn’t bother me. I don’t have a sure way to test all of this, so the only way to tell is probably to bring my stuff and have people play on it an see what everybody thinks.
I can probably start bringing my monitor after next week, since the Norcal Install is next week and I will enter to lose the tournament but win that raffle :smokin:
Actually, I don’t know how things are gonna go yet but I got all hyped after hearing about it yesterday, BUT if everything goes as planned then I can bring my setup and see if other people are willing to get into this and make it work.
Thanks DKL, for organizing the EU meets. Hope this new format works out!
I’m like a complete noob at anything tech related, so I actually didn’t catch most of that stuff…
But, yes, let’s use this thread to communicate and see where we can go.
I’ll try to pick up some 25/50 feet extension cords in the near future (in 2 weeks), but I need to get word from Dean about how much we should be plugging per socket (I think we could do like 2 setups per socket? I dunno)… I might also need to get a surge protector from Radioshack or something (those are around 16-17 dollars, I think) in order to protect our gear…
Also, there’s the issue of keeping the cords OFF OF THE GROUND; I don’t quite know how this will be done (I’ll find out during INSTALL), but it’s some kind of fire code we need to adhere to.
I didn’t receive a reply from Dean via e-mail, so I’ll maybe try to pop in the shop on Tuesday before my class.
That said, yes… it’d be cool if we could get sponsors like what Rufio talked about, but I don’t even know how that would work…
ANYWAY, our priority right now is to have at least 1 regular setup every week… I have the X-Box and sticks, so all we need to focus on is a TV/monitor (yeah, try to bring your stuff after NORCAL INSTALL and we’ll see if it’ll work out); hopefully, Dean will agree to hold onto the TV that Rufio’s buddy will donate…
But I need to actually talk to him first.
Anyway, the presence of a TV in the shop will pretty much GUARANTEE one setup a week (as I’m always there and all I’d need to do is lug my X-Box with me every week… talking about that: I broke one of the wheels on my suitcase; fuck)
==================
EDIT:
WAIT, I HAVE AN IDEA!
I know a couple of people in Berkeley (the Blazblue people from UCB’s anime club) and maybe I could stash some items at their apartment?
I need to get into contact with them ASAP…
EDIT EDIT:
Fuck, can someone give me a better picture of how big this TV is?
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KV-13FS100-13-Inch-Trinitron-WEGA/dp/B00006JP8U
CRTs would be great because there’s no lag… but they’re fucking huge a lot of the time…
==============
On an unrelated note, this week’s High School of the Dead featured epic Matrix Boobs:

I lawled so hard.
if you’re willing to spend ~$150 on a display, look into the asus lcds (gtg). the price is fair after rebate.
EDIT: HDMI model for 5 bucks more
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051&cm_re=asus_lcd_gtg--24-236-051--Product
Most of the SSF4 crowd really like these monitors and I played on one plenty times myself. They’re super good and lag is practically a non-issue on the GTG models. If we can get a nearby place to store it, I can help chip in for buying one.
Regarding CRTs, I find that most sony trinitrons are surprisingly light
That’s pretty reasonable… would we actually need to store it anywhere?
I think I could fit it in my case, but I’m not sure…
Not sure, it’s just that LCDs are quite delicate even though you can detach the stand to make it easier to carry. It can be put in a case if the screen is protected and it’s not bearing weight or bending against other contents. LCDs tend to come in very large boxes, as well.
Maybe I should get another case?
Hm…
That said, the problem now is hosting 3rd Strike; we need two setups…
Ffffffffffffffff–
I didn’t think it’d be this hard to find setups.
OKAY, I’m browsing CRAIGLIST for CRT TVs…
We don’t need a flashy TV… we just need something small and cheap, with speakers and without a lag…
I’m keeping my eyes open:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/ele/eby?query=tv&srchType=A
(that said, I might actually have a spare CRT TV to donate to EU, but I’m not sure whether or not we tossed it out yet)
EDIT:
KINDA LIKE THIS:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/1913612110.html
I think 13"-20" would be nice…
EDIT EDIT:
Here are 2 potential candidates:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/1911674438.html
I don’t know if I did it correctly, but I shot e-mails to the listed e-mails in the links…
But, yes, I’m gonna snatch these up ASAP, maybe…
Hey, I’m posting here in response to DKL’s post on my severely neglected thread. I definitely am interested in lugging my equipment to an event like this (I do have a crappy TV/VCR combo for older pre-HD fighters), but not for a buy-in or tournament type of event. Since there’s events where one can compete for a cash prize essentially on a weekly basis, I want to establish something where people can just gather for the sake of honing their skills and improving their game with current generation fighters as well as older/classic fighters without the stress and monetary contribution of a tournament.
So long story short I can help out with equipment needs if my equipment will be utilized for casual fighting exclusively. If that’s cool, just tell me when I should show up.
Here’s the list of what I can support:
SNES (only controllers)
Street Fighter II/Turbo/Super II
Genesis (only controllers)
Samurai Showdown
Mortal Kombat II
PSX (only controlelrs)
Street Fighter Collection (with Alpha 2 Gold)
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Bushido Blade 1, 2
Pocket Fighter
Saturn (only controllers, but I’m trying to track down a set of sticks and more games)
Virtua Fighter 2
PS2 (1 stick)
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Dreamcast (1 stick)
Street Fighter III Double Impact
Street Fighter III 3rd Strike (in Japanese, so know your Super Arts!)
King of Fighters '98
Marvel Vs. Capcom
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Gamecube (only controllers)
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Soul Calibur II
Wii (1 stick)
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Street Fighter II Turbo
PS3 (2 sticks)
Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
King of Fighters XII
I also have 1 HD monitor for the PS3 and 1 crappy TV/VCR combo for non-HD games.
YES, WE NEED YOU ON THIS BADLY.
As I said in the other thread, this is actually primarily a CASUAL event; me and the rest of the EU crew don’t snob people just because they don’t know how to play or whatever and it’s preferable if we can get like non-fighting game people on board (it’s been a little hard despite interest given the steepness of the hourly rate… but at a $3 overhead charge, I can actually float money to like 2-3 other people from time to time… it would still be cheaper than the $16 a week I’ve been doing).
IN ANY CASE, this event is held mainly because I wanna sit around all day and play fighters… it’s for the ROFLs and Lawlz, not for stress-inducing rage quitting.
And, in-between all that, we might actually level up, so that’s even better.
As for the quality of the TVs, we really don’t care as long as there’s no lag; we’ve been playing on these small-ass monitors for the last several weeks and I don’t think anyone will complain.
(actually, the TV/VCR thing might even be preferable since there’s no lag on those)
We got some old tvs in the office not getting much love. In the small chance I can acquire one of these TVs, I’ll need someone to come pick it up.
UPDATE: My boss will part with one of the TVs (little over 20 inches), for a few bucks. Let me know, if you’re interested
I really need to get into contact with DEAN soon and see if he’ll hold onto gear for us…
I’d be fine with paying for a monthly rent or something as long as it isn’t too taxing…
I’ll pay for it, but I don’t know if I can actually pick it up…
(we’ll need like fucking team work on this: someone needs to pick it up and I’ll re-imburse them for gas and the TV)
Actually, how much first?
Is it cheaper than the Craigslist offers?
Ideally I think we should have at the very least:
2 SSF4
1-2 BBCS (depending on Norcal Install, our regulars for this may grow exponentially)
1 3S
1 MVC2 and others
Yeah, I’ll likely pick up those CL TVs along with whatever your boss will let go of…
But transport of the gear (the TVs, not the consoles) is the biggest issue right now; we seriously need a place to stash it and I haven’t gotten a reply from DEAN on my last e-mail yet…
EDIT:
Ffffffffffff–
One of the TVs was sold; god damn it.
The tv we have is a 25 inch sony trinitron. He’s asking 40 bucks, I can put in half, so 20 for you guys.
But again we need a place to store it, and someone to pick it up. But I’ll bug my boss some more later, he’s a big 3s fan so he may drive out to EU one of these weeks.
