The Beginners Guide to MAME

if u didn’t figure it out yet, u are the wrong tab on your mame. You’re on the Favorites tab which doesn’t work and says “not working now…:)”

Download the following file:
http://kaillera.com/files/kaillera-0.9-sdk.zip
Unzip it
Copy the kailleraclient.dll file inside it to your C:\Windows\system32 folder

This may be a silly question:

Can three people play online if - one computer has 1 player and the other computer has 2 players (ie: two pads connected to the same pc).

In mame you can switch controls using F5 in a two player game like A3. Will the thrid player be recongised?

I strongly doubt it. But if you can run 2 copies of on mame computer 2 with different pads configured, you can just activate the relevant mame window of the player so its input has focus. Considering player 1 is on computer 1, you can have player1 v player 2 and player1 v player3 games. I’m not sure how you’d go on about having match between the 2 players on computer 2.

Yeah they can just hand over the pad to do that. Just need to know if its possible for 2p vs 3p (both on the same PC) with me watching. The idea of running two mames sounds interesting and might work. I’ll try it some time this week and let people know.

i did that but styl can;t connect to kaillera.:frowning:

or can someone tell me where to get one with kaillera pre integrated

edit: scratch that i got it

Well I WAS following the tutorial…but I can’t get past the “Go into default options and set your aspect ratio” part because Mame is giving me a message saying it needs the latest version of comctl32.dll

I’m on Vista…lol, and when I went to download the “upgraded” version it let me know that I already HAVE the upgraded version…so um, yeah…what now?

Are you still trying 0.64 :arazz: It doesn’t work on vista.

I’m using mame116u3.1.

The problem is that me and my buddies aren’t getting any games at all. My other two buddies played a game of 3s on kaillera and I played a game of ST with my other buddy. After that, we tried playing mvc1; it didn’t seem to work. Everytime we would try to start a game, it would either: make a waiting screen on a players side counting from 100s+ down or have both players go into their own screen playing a computer instead. After too many tries, we stopped and tried 3s. It didn’t work either. St didn’t work also. Any help?

Can someone explain how to make the screen bigger in the new MAME? (Whichever one everyone is using to play 3S)

I’ve asked a few people, but I couldn’t get an answer other than “lol just click the square next to the close button”.

I just want at least DOUBLE the size, but the same aspect ratio. I can’t stand the “blotchiness” of a screen not in its correct aspect ratio.

Thanks, if this has been answered, just refer me to where it is.

To change the aspect ratio, start the game and then go into the options screen with Tab. From there, select Video Options, where you can select the original aspect ratio or the typical 4:3 found on most monitors. To resize, you can just resize the window like noral or select one of the filters from Image Enhancement in that same Tab menu.

In the filters section, which one is the equivalent of “zoom x2”… most of them are smoothing filters like HQ2x.

I’ve found that if you want the equivalent of the hardware stretch from earlier MAMEs, don’t use a filter and just resize the window. Kreed’s 2xSAI is the closest I’ve gotten to replicating the zoom/hardware stretch, but that’s my preference and thus your choice will vary.

Ah, this is a sad day… how could they take out hardware stretch and zoom…

Bleh, I hate MAME.

Hi all. I’m having some trouble when getting into a game on kaillera. I join or someone joins my game and it starts and all, but then it seems like my opponent is no longer there and it’s like I’m playing the game as if I loaded it offline. Any ideas on what to do?

Whats your mame version?

Hardware stretch is still there, it’s just not in the GUI options. Just resize your window.

My version is 0116u3. I know that the games I played with others were with people using the same version as me.

I’ve had the same thing happen many times. When I asked, I was told that it was a basic connection problem which required both players to restart MAME. Though sometimes even when you restart multiple times it still happens, and even if you don’t it will randomly work. Seemed to happen a bit less often when my connection was set to excellent, but restarting and/or trying to connect again is usually enough. Maybe you and your friends could also try using a more recent version of MAME, u4.1 is available now.

That’s all I got.

.117 has been officially released. A new ++ build should be out relatively shortly.
