The Basketball Thread

This reminds me of my intramural basketball team this year, we had an Asian kid who is like 5’3 and his job would be to go out and try and take charges and then sell it to the ref. It was like having Mugsy Bogues take charges out there and it worked great, pretty sure he caused about 10 charges during the year.

wtf the power for a jump shot isn’t from the wrist, it’s from the legs, you should be able to transfer all that power to the ball with a smooth motion, there are people out there who like to “hang” before they snap the wrist, and i guarantee a lot of times the ball is short for them.

thats the plan…nobody want it with my team

I haven’t balled in a while. I’m 5"10 but thin, so I’m usually a SF. I’d rather play outside because my jumper has crazy air… it’s the rainbow of all rainbows. I don’t know how I develpoed it, but it’s what I’m known for. My handles are better than average and I mostly run around without the ball on offense (most people hate playing guys like that). I also have pretty good court vision and love it when guys move without the ball and set picks. It makes getting open and my getting you the ball much easier and gives me options.

I’m not thin so most guys try to post me up but I’m usually ready for it. My arms are long so I can bother most shots and post dribbles. You gotta be pretty tall and big for me to at least not bother you.

But I am thin… so I can be beat up down low by stronger guys who knos how to use their weight advantage (many people actually don’t know how and thinks it’s easy when in reality they don’t know how to do it). And like a lot of people my concentration wanes so sometimes I miss freebies and if I miss a few jumpers I usually won’t shoot for the rest of the game.

This has been THE INVINCIBLE SWORDSMAN saying:

I love ballin’ though. I need to get back into it and get in playing shape.

5’10, 210lbs

I got a pretty good mid range game. Can spot up or create something for myself. Reggie Miller was my favorite player as a kid, so I have a similar release (it’s how I, probably wrongly taught myself how to shoot). Pretty decent post moves with the size to battle. Sexy turnaround jumper.

But I’m not very (at all) disciplined on D, so I’m pretty much the textbook streetball player, get my points, DON’T get back on D lol.

i wanna go to evo but i got no roomies.

But how’s your game with the opposite sex?

Couldn’t resist:wonder:

i play in an Hmong/laos summer league. we play every weekend and we play in alot of tourneys. I run with a very good team. We are very balanced. I start at the 2 guard. I’m mostly a pure jump shooter and play good D. ever since i tore my ACL, and had 3 surgeries on it i’m pretty jacked up but i’m still better than most of the guys out there.

Pretty damn good as a mater of fact. :arazz:

hmmm i seem to remember a thread saying otherwise.

HAHAHA HIS REP HAS HIS OWN NAME…WTF?! HAHAHA…HOLY SHIT WHO DID THAT, WIZARD?!

Happens to everyone when their rep gets that far down. Gord’s rep says his name and then high school kid who cried cuz he was president has his name too.

Yeah, my max range where I can shoot comfortably is about halfway in between the 3 point line and the key. Thanks for the tip, i’ll start shooting there, and then work my way backwards. It isn’t too far from there to the 3pt line.

I’ll check it out.

Yeah, there’s my main problem, consistency. I’ll shoot a few good ones, then i’ll find my hand position on the ball changing every shot. It’s hard to fix too, because you’re under pressure from the defence too, and you don’t have much time for the shot. I guess it’s all muscle memory, practice practice.

Heh, today I tried that shit and failed. I forgot i’m kinda heavy, and tried to take a charge, then jumped at the last second with the guy (dirty, I know, but the jump was pure instinct, I didn’t even think ). We both kinda just hung in the air for a second, and I landed on my feet, and he bounced off onto the floor. My team was like “why the fuck didn’t you pretend to fall?”. Once again, it’s just knowing your own body I guess. My defence would be so much better if I could figure out when to get up on someone so they can’t move, or when to stay away so I don’t get knocked the fuck down.

I hang a lot, because i’m usually doing the shot from a spin, so I need that second to get my fix on the basket. I’m not usually short though, just off left/right.

…what? No seriously, what? Dude, after you type something, read it again, and try and see if it makes any sense at all. :bluu:

I love playing basketball. I’m 5’8 and I love playing on 7ft hoops on my free time but I can play on the big ones too. I’m a great defense, but I suck when being guarded. Seriously, how can I make a shot when a good defense is blocking me?

ahh didnt know…ya know cuz my reps never been red.

YO WE STILL GETTIN THIS FREE MONEY AT EVO OR WHAT!!!

I hope theres some Yipes-Like Commentary out there!

I used to play ball at least 2 times a week for pretty much my whole life up until last year, blew out my ACL, just had reconstruction last week and waiting for rehab so hopefully I’ll be playing again before the end of this year. Closest I ever got to organized ball was intramural at university, and I have probably played 5x as much outdoors as indoors.

I’m a little over 6’, and float between 160-170 though I’m probably about 155 right now. I play most of my time at the 2 though I love playing point but probably don’t have the handle to do it versus anybody good… I also have played some center depending on who ever is at the court when I go to play. My shot is pretty streaky but I’ve been told I have good form, but outside of 15 feet there’s no real difference in the amount I’ll hit until a couple of steps behind the [college] arc (not that I’m awful outside of 15, just don’t have much of a difference in the amount I’ll hit… so equally as bad I guess).

I’ve got an above average handle for the people I play but I’m not gonna be pulling any crazy crossovers most of the time (though I do keep fond memories of the only times it ever does happen lol). My lefthanded dribble is pretty decent too but there’s nothing I can do with it as I can’t finish anything with my left hand so I end up driving left and going back to my right and getting mashed or using my left and getting laughed at. My go to move if typically a right handed drive into the for a mid lane teardrop banker when I know I can beat my man off the dribble, other than that I like to move alot off the ball and run screen and rolls with a couple of guys that I usually play regularly with.

On D I’m ok but dont have great lateral quicks, but have pretty good length so I can recover usually if I’m manning up somebody that is my size… but I do indeed enjoy playing people that are shorter than me and swatting them helicopter styles, that was the best part about pick up games at my school, I swear nobody on that campus ever expected to have anything blocked.

of course…they have no idea lol…

Went to the court last night…did aight, nothing great though. Does anyone use power to dry their hands? I had a few fastbreaks but once I went to gather the ball it slipped right out. Hate that shit cause it makes it seem like I have butterfingers, but cause the ball is wet from the sweat, its harder to palm.

It sure did. I’m not sure how you were not able to comprehend that. Oops. Forgot the holics part. Sorry.

Shooting

First thing to do is get your form down. Do you shoot with two hands? If so you need to break that habit.

Keep your eyes on the rim not the ball, square your shoulders. Let the ball roll off your fingers not your palm. Use your offhand to hold the ball but keep it set and don’t use it with your shoot.

Start in close and move out as you get comfortable with that range.
