!!! I see your in Raleigh, where do you play? I play with an older crowd mostly (older than 25):woot:
Hey, what’s up. Gold’s Gym in North Raleigh…not North Hills, though, which is probably why I post up on tumbleweeds.
You said the Y…Hillsborough St.?
And did you and your brother used to visit Starcade alot? SFA3 regular?
I’m in North Raleigh, at the Karr Center Y. Might have to check out Golds Gym; seems that the crowd would be older/more mature than the Y.
Naw, I havent been to an arcade since I moved here 2 years ago.
There’s no secret to getting better at shooting, it just takes good form and mechanics and practice. It’s why i don’t play pickup games often, because its full of people who are so fundamentally bad it makes me sick sometimes.
When you play games it’s all habits, and how you develop habits is from just practice.
Oh and like someone said before, if you can carry you’re shooting form to the free throw line, then practice those too, they usually help align your shot pretty well, so use it as a pregame prep.
Height: 6’0
Weight: 155
Strengths: I can bomb threes and shoot well and I board pretty well and can block fools
Weaknesses: Cannot drive at all, too weak and lanky, handles can be weak sometimes
I like to ball a lot and I feel I am pretty decent but I can’t really dribble well with my left hand at all and driving is hard for me since I am so scrawny, time to get back in the gym.
I played in the first B-Ball league at that Y when they opened :wgrin: 4 teams…Highschoolers.
Gold’s Gym is good. You might want to check the North Hills one, if it isn’t too far. They are newer, and might have a bigger crowd on the courts. Still though, you’re right. Not too many kids at Golds. Has a large gym, one full court, but pickups are usually one of the two half courts.
Shooting basically comes down to alot of practice and alot of focus. With Jump Shots, your arms should be Parallel and most of the power should come from your wrist. It could be you’re not bending your legs enough as well? Again, practice and commitment is key.
Are you asking about range too? To increase your range is to know your limits of range first. Your range is the distance at which you can comfortably make the majority of your shots (EX: 5 of 8) without being rushed or guarded. If you can do that from say 14 feet, move back a little (17 feet). You must learn your way back, usually three feet at a time. Thats how I did it, or used to. Rinse and repeat. Hope that helped.
I find that when I shoot, or get ready to shoot, I am “amped” up so much that I lose my concentration. Like a kid opening presents for Christmas. I’ve started to wear a wrist band on my shoot forearm that seems to keep me level when I shoot though.
…first the novel thread, and now this. That Video Gamers and Fappers Anonymous meeting thing must be really pushing you over the edge.

I prefer the gym. The less spectators the better.

I just play pickup nowadays if I could. No more American or 3-In-2-Out. Those middle-school games are sadly missed. My neighbours play, too. Can’t reach as well as I used to when it comes to boards. I can go up for the close shot with no problem. I’m good on pressure and can hold a pick. My indirect game is totally gone, so it’s back to my layups and inclose shooting.
KG is that you?!
nah but seriously, i hate playing outdoors unless i’m just bullshitting. i can’t really go all out bcuz i’m not really a fan of going to the ground on asphalt and in general i’m just a bitch that can’t handle the sun glaring down on me.
i mostly like running point since thats what i played most of the time in high school, but most of the time when i play there’s either a jock that’s already claimed the point or i’m one of the bigger guys on the team so i have to get on the block and bang. i’m 6’1, 205lb at the moment, but i’m pretty athletic/fast so i usually end guarding whoever is dropping buckets on the other team.
my main problem when i play is that i’m not a good spot up shooter, i’m much more comfortable shooting off the dribble or slashing.
oh and i’ve only managed to complete one dunk in my life and it was 5 years ago (holy shit i feel old typing that).
For shooting tips, youtube “basketball shooting 1” and learn from a master.
Been called that on the court cause I yell when I block someone…also known to talk to myself when I mess up…LOL.
Dunking isn’t as easy as most people think, being 6’1 and VERY lanky, dunking should come to be easy but it hasn’t. I’ve been told that my elbow can rest on top of the rim when I jump and many times people have thrown ally oops and I lay it in when I am looking at the rim…
On a fast break, I am, again, like the kid before Christmas, all hyped and amp to do something and loose focus. Unreal actually told me some good words of advice, “B, slow down when your about to dunk”…tried it a couple of times and have success now…:woot:
The key to improving as a shooter is to develop a solid, consistent motion that is repeatable on any number of iterations. A good way to do this is to play the backup game. Stand close to the goal, and shoot the ball at the basket. Do this until you make five in a row. Next, step back a step or so and repeat. Keep going until you get to wherever your destination is, then change angles. Make sure not to change your form from position to position.
Link to our college intramural team (B-ball video…very long)
I’m #24 on the tape…can’t believe that was 2 1/2 years ago…and no, we didn’t pick our opponents, we just happen to be the tall black basketball team vs. the Asians…LOL
me too although even if it’s scorching I’ll still play lol. Although i’m hella short it’s still my favorite sport to play by far and I play whenever I get the chance though I been too busy at work to take advantage of the recent weather.
pickup games @ EVO2K8 BET IT!
Lmao at 1:42. Thanks a lot, I had stuff to do but this promises to be a hilarious waste of time.
Strengths: Dribbles and range. I can pass, but nothing fancy.
Weaknesses: Low stamina, too low. I’m only 5’6.
I haven’t picked up a basketball in about 8 months. So I know my skills dropped a notch…really need to get back at it. Favorite games were Horse and 21, and the occasional 3v3/4v4/5v5 stuff like that.
Your competition was not very good … it like they drove to their strong side then stop and pass it out then repeat…
Oh, I not saying we played anyone good, that happened to be the first game of our season…and man, were we shocked.
The team actually beat a team we struggled with though. Beat them badly…I would of paid to see that game:rofl:
Whenever Im in Raleigh I play at Lion’s park, Millbrook Rd park is a fun place as well
Most of the Durham parks are either too dangerous or ran by Mexicans. The best place to play ball at in Durham is on the Duke courts, surprisingly good competition and everything is in good condition (obviously).
