The Bama Thread - Staying Hungry ,The Soul Still Burns!

yo Skitz i didn’t disagree with any of that.

They’re a business, they have to run their shit sometime.

There’s gonna be events all year no matter what. I mean, it’s no way for them to avoid every single event that is going on. It’s a weekly league. And honestly, it’s not like the league is gonna stop anyone from going to a tourney. Either they want/wanted to go or they don’t.

So uh what I miss?

The fact that this is even an issue is stupid.

I’m not even from Alabama but I don’t want to see the state split up between events is all I’m saying. Monthlies in BHam is the closest thing to a statewide event because of it’s location. Bama’s scenes are already kind of spread out and RCR is meant to gather most or much of AL’s talent as well as TN & GA. We have grown a bunch over just 2 events (RCR 2 held back in Dec had 50+ people) and we are hoping to grow even more. But that requires gaining support from the various Bama scenes as well as scenes from the surrounding states. I mean Raekwon pushed back monthlies because it conflicted with one of Dothan’s events and he didn’t want to split up the scene.

I know it has been repeated (and will probably continue to get repeated) but I understand you have a business to run and I also think it is awesome that you have that rule set in place that allows people to skip a week or so to attend to “life issues”. But I think it would be cool if we all supported each other more often. It’s too late in the tourney season so things will overlap so it is understandable. Maybe sometime after EVO (or in the fall) Bama’s scenes can chalk out some dates and start planning junk out so we can start to support each other more. It’ll promote better communication amongst the scenes and maybe help your business out if league play involved more scenes. Like if every scene (Huntsville/BHam/Montgomery/Tuscaloosa/Auburn/Dothan) rotated a month they would hold a tourney and each of these monthlies would be a gain league points or something. Then hold the league finals stuff that month right before Final Round; when we are already doing in-state training sessions preparing for Alabama dominance. I don’t know, we should make it happen…

Basically like everyone is saying communication is the Key.

We the Bama scene already semi rotate monthlies, whether it be Bham,T-Town,Huntsville,Gump, and soon to be Dothan. If I have a date and another wants to do a tournament I will gladly give away my date, if they havent done a tournament in awhile.
I expect the same from any other scene.

Right now we have 5 cities to hold monthlies. So in a years time Bham will have the majority because of location ONLY, but I expect everyone to
attempt to travel elsewhere in state.

If you want to schedule a tournament and it’s the same day as a TN or GA tourney do so(excluding majors). We should support the home grown first,
but that doesnt mean it always happens. It’s cool to send small groups to those ,but the majority should try to make the instate affairs.

Now with the GTSouth League play. They put in a fail safe ,but I don’t think it will be enough. Only because the ones willing to travel to league play are also the ones willing to go out of state for tournaments. Until the league grows and competition also grows in Montgomery, those players have to travel to other tourneys for experience and earnings. Right now its more a local thing to expand there scene . Thats great ,because that breeds players, which gives back to the community later 10 fold. I love the idea and i will support them , as much as I can.

I will support everyone as long as they respect the scene. This is not pointing fingers, just a general statement.

To truly maximize our resources as a state we HAVE to occupy dates and days that are available. We have 3 days in the week that no one is taking advantage of ,event wise. (Monday weds sunday) I myself would like to make all the events I can , but not at the cost of missing someones else event , outside of LIFE stuff.

If your’re curious of the events in the state here is :

Mon: n/a
Tues: ABXY group T-Town During school semester only 6-10
Weds N/A
Thurs : The Deep (Huntsville) and After Deep Shenanigans at Sara’s
Fri : Auburn Drink Night
Sat : Monthlies n Various instate n Out of state tourneys wherever ,and GTSouth League play
Sun: N/A

If I didn’t mention you , your event needs to hit the weight room some more.

Depending on Majors and Really big tourneys, Saturday dates will be sometimes limited .

Lets work together and be efficient, we got this.

ATL Finalroundbats currently occupies every other Sunday, fwiw.

Yo nagato. Since lamar is out, i guess i might just chill at home and miss this RCR if you still have another ride.
It doesn’t help that my car just got a flat tire also, and no spare. I’ll have to fix that this weekend also.
If you don’t have another ride though, get back to me, i might be able to get it out of the way tomorrow.

Also Isaac, you still down for the CEO trip?
Lemme know when you get something together.

I was gonna text you today lol. Yeah I’m still down but if you need to take care of things, I understand. Will try and find a new ride.

There appears to have been some confusion regarding the league schedule for this season, the majority of the teams that come in here on a regular basis were under the impression that the league would be every other week like the last season which is understandable and why we shortened the season. So in lieu of this we have went ahead and modified the schedule to be every other week as assumed. Therefore next league date is May 19th. All fees are also due on May 19th and the last day for new team signups will be on the 19th as well. This also alleviates any conflicts with the huntsville tournament this weekend. So the league schedule for this shortened season will commence on the following days: May 19th, June 2nd, and June 16th. The finals will be held June 30th. While this has been explained to those coming in, I wanted to make sure to post it here for the Auburn teams as I do not have contact info for you.

On finals night we will also be determining what the next seasons game is as well as the schedule for the next season so that all teams have input in the direction of the league. If you have any questions or concerns on this please let us know you can reach Jason or me (Mike) at the Tavern after 4pm at 334-356-5298. Thanks all! I’ll update the website with the schedule when I’m not trying to type on a touchscreen.

The positive seems to be that no one means any harm to anyone else. Everyone’s holding tournaments for the right reasons, the players and the competition. I think everyone’s right on the money when they say that communication is lacking. I think some people’s unfamiliarity with each other, the distance between scenes, and our various methods of communication are largely to blame. Not everyone in the state talks with everyone else in the state often, or even knows everyone else in the state. We’re all too spread out for that to be possible. And even online, we seem to be broken into different groups. If someone were to want to hold a tournament, they’d have to look in this thread, some GA and FL threads, the Alabama facebook group, the facebook groups for each individual city, the tournament thread on SRK, GTSouth’s website, facebook conversation logs, PMs…that’s a lot of stuff. Maybe we could make a universal calendar just for Bama and the surrounding areas. Maybe give one or two people from every city the ability to post there. That way we all have one place to look in order to schedule a tournament. I think something like this could be done up in Google Docs, which has great sharing and collaboration features.

I like Jrawlinson’s idea of a skype chat. Perhaps we could also use this to set something like a calendar up?

Also, I really like Isaac’s idea of rotating monthlies. Those are my two pennies.

Honestly, people should just post in here more often, at least when it comes to event plans and news. Facebook groups are great for people already in the Facebook group but they don’t do anything for anyone else.

RCR was only announced 3 weeks ago and is this weekend. I don’t understand why anyone should be upset if people can’t make RCR. That’s generally not enough time to guarantee plans, time off, etc. besides it being Mom’s Day weekend.

Everyone that can make it, cool. If you can’t, no big deal here from me and hopefully most of our people.

As for planning events, each area is going to need to declare an event planner that coordinates with all the other planners. Just keep a 5-6 man PM on SRK going with date updates. Plan out the rest of the state monthlies, and go from there.

Not hard.

I can confirm I’m coming to this RCR shit tomorrow

If anyone lives close (5-10 mins off) the interstate between where 72W turns into i565W and the venue and you need a ride PM me and I can get you there, though I gotta bail around 3:30/4:00 to get back to mom’s day plans

Ok so is it just me or is KOF13 the main Bama FG?

Once again trying to find players in the Northeast part of Alabama. Includes Haleyville, Russellville, Littleville and Florence.

No, probably Marvel is. There isnt a place I know where no one plays it.
KOF is probably the bigger sub game with AE dying a bit, but they are about even. At the last RCR they had the same entrants lol.

Squid, let me know whats going on man. I texted you and I got no response. Trying to find an alternative ride just in case your car isn’t fixed. EDIT: NVM, omit this.
