If this B’Ham tournament goes down, where will it be?
God, The rust… the salty salty rust of Super 4… must shake it off and stop playing so much marvel…
I’ve had a discussion about this topic with a friend of mine, and I see it happen too often lately. Not BB specifically, but whether or not you’re entertained by the game. If you’re not having fun while you’re playing, why are you playing? Stop. Put down the controller. Start playing something you like.
I don’t really see it as much in this thread, probably because there are fewer people. If you hate MVC3 so much, why are you always on that shit? ANOTAK, did you actually stop playing? I haven’t been through to notice yet.
So what if all the “mainstream” games that get tons of entries and large pots are terrible. Are you playing for money instead of enjoyment of the game as well as competition? That’s called a “job”, my friend.
Why choose a character based on who else plays said character? There’s a good chance you’re limiting yourself by doing so. Pick a character who plays a style you find interesting. Brand new to said game? Start with interesting character designs. Read the damn instruction manual, look up moves, use strategy guides, and actually put time into the game to pick a character that feels right before you worry about crap-ass tier lists.
If you’re using Character X because Player Y makes them look cool, at least try to devise your own strategies before you get exposed be cause everybody else on the tournament scene watches Player Y play. If you decide not to play Character X because too many other people use him/her, you’re still succumbing to a form of peer pressure instead of doing what YOU really want to do.
In my own experience, when Super dropped, I was going to pick up Guy as a secondary. After messing around with him a bit, I changed my mind based on his movement, style, and execution required to use him properly. As soon as AE drops, I’m (probably) picking up Yun because I fucking feel like it. If I think I can’t get used to his style, I’ll look around the roster for someone else.
Basically, I just think these types of decisions should be made based on personal outlooks instead of outside factors.
Guile is my main (always), and I started seconding Rose as of about October last year. Feel free to add me, but I am not online that often.

Man I’m so hype for AE. Did you guys know that Yang can combo into U1 off of a single st.lp ? How godlike is that?? He has like 3 ways to combo into Ultra without meter!
Wow, my post was completely misunderstood. I’ll be more clear:
- I never saw Blaz or any other FG as a “job,” even now. The reason why I haven’t dropped the game yet is because I had a TON of fun with CT/CS1, so I’m hoping CS2 will grow on me. I’m going to give it a fair chance and not totally dismiss it after it’s barely been out a week; that would be like watching the opening credits of a movie and walking out of the theater.
- I don’t play Hakumen because some other guy makes him look cool. I’ve been told more than once that I have a unique playstyle with Hakumen and it’s something I pride myself on; I really don’t care how other people play him since that’s their business (unless I’m facing them in a match, of course). I play him because he’s fun. I always have a good time with high risk/high reward characters, an archetype that previously fit Haku perfectly. And tiers? LOL, I have such a tendency to pick and play characters that end up being garbage in the tier lists that it’s a running joke in the B’ham scene (not even making that up).
- Not sure if you’re referring to BB or MvC, but Blazblue? Mainstream? LOL. Maybe in Japan, but here in America it seems like most of the people who even know the game exist are too busy pointing out how much they personally preferred Guilty Gear without realizing nobody cares but them. Locally (B’ham scene), the Blaz scene has moved beyond life support and onto defibrillator status–it’s pretty much myself, TheGMan, Pat, SolidPlay, and whoever decides to play for five minutes when the newest version comes out. If you only count people who play Blazblue as their main game, that narrows it down to just GMan and me (not sure if it’s Pat’s main).
So yeah, I’m not giving up on the game yet. Not because I feel obliged to, but because the previous Blaz games were so awesome that I’m willing the give the new one a fair shake, even if I’m unhappy with it at the moment.
mysticblak i only play mvc3 in casuals against people that come over and dont play anything else. i’m still the “best” person in this part of the area so i also at least want to help people get better even if i think the game is worthless as a tournament. i have not and am not planning to ever enter an mvc3 tournament again unless a new version or a major patch comes out that changes how the game works on a basic level (assists, hitboxes, x factor, jump startup, proximity block, dhc glitch, hitstun scaling, damage scaling, damage to assists, damage in general, triangle jumps etc).
ssf4 is actually the game i put the most time into atm even though i’m garbage at it
edit:
Wes try another character… maybe that will help. other than that i don’t know what to say :shake:
Whiteboard says I’m the best Anotak.
Just saying.
Wait what’s wrong with triangle jumps? They’re far more bullshit in mvc2.
theyre really not
IMO, Marvel’s fun, but in doses. It really does get old and boring quick. I can’t see myself cracking out on it like I can in Melty, Arcana, or GG. Arcana is very fun and I would like for people to look outside of aesthetics and see a good fighting game.
I’m not playing AE. OOOOOOOOOOO YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Great meeting you Raequan (sp?). Thanks for the Marvel advice after beasting on me. See you at ARK IV dude!
hold it down bama good to know the scene in the ham is still alive
isaac still psycho balling cars?
im entering in MvC3 at the next monthly. I been practicing and I think im comfortable enough to start playing with my team.
It seems I was a bit misunderstood as well. Half of that post wasn’t towards you (specifically). I was responding to KinetiK’s post. I wouldn’t call Blaz Blue mainstream, and my understanding of the BB scene around here is that you’re the one who would be inspiring other people’s play styles with said character. I guess you could always hope for patches like Anotak is…
Okay. I suppose I could respect you trying to level-up the people in the area that are interested in the game, though it still contradicts the idea of “only play it if YOU think it’s fun”. I doubt this conversation will get much further, so I’ll leave it at that.
lolz I havent played a game cuz I thought it was fun in a long time
What is fun?
well, its sort of okay in casuals. i dont hate every moment of it, but i definitely dont love it. i do like some of the ideas behind it that haven’t been done in other games.
its just not something i want to sit down and play seriously in a tournament ever again, that’s the worst thing ever. the last time i entered at birmingham was only because i saw raph losing to somebody i got salty about it even though i wasn’t playing and i wanted to beat that guy.
but i realized that its sort of futile because beating someone in marvel 3 isn’t an accomplishment no matter who it is. for results to not be random in mvc3, you need at least a first to 20.
I think I have a block in my brain, I can’t take the next level and get any better
take a break maybe? or play another game for a little while.
washing the dishes vs capcom 3 is hype
