The fuck is you smoking?
Thanks for the heads-up.
I’m trying to remember what else is slated to be on that weekend, though. Didn’t that thing in Dothan tentatively get bumped up to the same day? I think Isaac was saying that there might be something else going on then too, but I can’t remember what it was.
Guys, as a “newhead”, I can say that

We’re not all sorry pieces of shit who can’t play anything non-Capcom. I admit I only got into the scene because of SF 4, but although I’m not the best at BlazBlue I do play it and support it to this day. Getting started playing games like BB or Melty Blood as a newbie to fighting games is a lot more daunting than you give people credit for, and I was feeling lost for a much longer time than when I was getting into SF. It’s a lot harder to adjust to things like IADs and burst baiting when you still have to go in training mode and practice QCF motions. I can perfectly understand how other “newheads” wouldn’t be able to stick through that; it’s like expecting all people new to the RPG genre to want to start with Dark Souls.

Street Fighter 4 is NOT a bad game series. At mid-to-high level play shit like mashing DPs doesn’t fly, and the game becomes a hell of a lot better. Dissing SF is no better than other people dissing your game. I can’t speak for Marvel, really.

Niggas is still posting velcro shoes as their avatar?
Booty is more important then BB. Booty is more important then SF.
Note how I said “narrowing the skill gap.” It’s true that, as you said, good players (J.Wong, etc) still win at these new games. However, with the skill gap being smaller, skill becomes less of a deciding factor, which is obviously a GIGANTIC problem for skill based games like fighters. Don’t tell me you’ve never seen an MvC3 match where someone was legitimately getting outplayed, then one lucky mash later, they go into some X-factor bullshit and win. Or even an AE match where someone was getting annihilated, yet one mashed Ultra later, they’re immediately back in the game. That shit is stupid. Good players that put in the work should be separated by a large margin from scrubs, but with newer fighters, a scrub can get pretty far even if they just haven’t put in as much effort to be good as a truly more skilled player (remember that 8-year-old MvC3 kid?). That’s on top of most newer fighters having a much lower skill ceiling–do you honestly think AE or MvC3 will ever have an EVO moment #37? It’s simply not possible in those games because their mechanics are so braindead simple.
Having a broad skill gap is a good thing for competitive play, but newer fighters are created in opposition of this to get sales. This is the obvious problem–skilled players prefer fighters that take skill, but since casuals are lazy (I mean, if they weren’t, they’d be skilled players) and also in the majority, developers like Capcom cater to them by not only lowering the learning curve but designing actual game mechanics to make up for their failures and mistakes. It’s a cash grab at the cost of game quality, and even though there are truly better alternatives out there, people ignore them in favor of brand recognition as I said in my previous post. Again, if AE or MvC3 had been released with the characters, title, and publisher changed, no one would have given them a second thought.
I can’t wait until this whole casualization of fighters backfires on Capcom when casuals get bored and move on to something else and they’re left scrambling to rope back in the hardcore players they’ve spurned. Isn’t that right, Nintendo?
I always laugh when someone brings up Noah to try and prove a point. Yes, all those hardened, skilled veterans who walked face-first into Hulk “deserved” to win. Uh huh.
an 8-year-old playing potemkin would beat a bunch of people that have no idea how to play the game too
Not only that but these dudes are in here arguing about “casual” player mechanics as if the top level players don’t use that same stuff too. I’d go as far to say they abuse it more than “casuals”. Not to mention “brain-dead” characters and “crutch” assists. But we can keep complaining about the “casual” players…
booty is more important then casuals.
This nigga knows
thats right. a man’s butt.
I see your point with the skill gap narrowing. However, I still believe the gap is huge between the “good” players and the “best” players (and between ALL players in general). It’s like the difference between 1 and 2,000,000 getting shaved to 1 and 1,000,000. It’s still a huge gap. I see execution shortcuts as having no effect on the results of a tournament. Have you seen Desk win a tournament?
Comeback mechanics on the other hand, yeah…that’s unfortunate. And then there’s the fact that I don’t work at Capcom. I think SF4 and Marvel would be fine without Ultra’s and X-Factor. Ultra’s exist primarily to reward losing. Of course, skilled players can still use Ultra’s without losing much health because of FA’s. As far as X-Factor…they said it was getting toned down in Ultimate, right? I don’t play Marvel hardcore or anything, but that seems to be it’s primary flaw. I don’t really like the idea of Ultra’s and X-Factor, but I still enjoy playing because I have the same tools. It becomes more of a challenge to outsmart other players instead of just maximizing damage.
As far as Capcom trying to get sales a.k.a. trying to make money and not go out of business…can you blame them? Lowering the learning curve? For what exactly? The only concrete learning curve is physical execution. Easier reversals, plinking (please don’t blame Capcom for an unintended glitch that turned out to help their marketing idea), input shortcuts, etc. It all still takes practice. Hours upon hours of practice…at least to become “good” at it. Everything else is mental, at which the top of the learning curve is winning tournaments.
However, that’s just two games. There’s BB, Tekken…other…games. Since I don’t play either, please inform me of their bullshit mechanics designed to attract new players and expand the fighting game community.
Oh, and the gems? Yeah, fuck gems. Might be the only thing this thread can agree on right about now.
are you even an actual person? you registered on srk yesterday
Who’s gonna make it out to Tension Pulse?
He’s clearly an android, so we should keep a close eye on him should he try to overthrow humanity.
I kinda wish more games would have the sort of skill gradient that a sport has. You can play football with friends and if you all just kinda know the rules you’re gonna just run around and pass a ball and have a good time, and then if you’re in shape you execute running around without huffing and puffing. Then you’ve got the guys that actually spend time getting good at the game, and they’ve not only got the “execution” but also they’ve got good strategies/plays as well (at least their coaches calling them do), so even comparable athletes might be mopped up if they have no idea how the fuck to approach something. I mean some games kinda have that but I think that’s the sort of skill distribution you want.
Hey, look at it this way. We’re leagues above games like TF2 which have this retardedly low skill ceiling.
Also just because people ran into hulk doesn’t mean hulk is dumb or they are dumb. Not enough people play hulk for people to actually think about him seriously. They just kinda regard him as that really slow character who is shitty, so whether or not they’re bad or good they’re not even going in with the right attitude. It’d be like if you played street fighter for a while and you never played any seth players ever but you kinda know how he works.
Nah, imma pass honestly. I think imma enjoy the month break i have from tournies and just enjoy free weekends and what not.
And once umvc3 hits imma spend all day in the lab trying to find the cheapest team possible.
goddamn if I see another wall of fucking text
SHUT THE FUCK UP
So much fucking bitching and entitlement. No one here is owed anything. Not playing this game or that; going to tournies, stimulating the community, nothing. No one has to do anything other than DIE.
@ TensionPulse, I’ll see who from the Ham’ going. I need to know asap, then know what time you guys heading out, etc. You know what, just PM me numbers, I don’t no one’s number lol.
