If anyone is in south Alabama/ in or near Dothan, I’m heading up a tournament in Dothan on the 22nd. It’s the first of hopefully a long tournament series called Combo Breaker. SRK event page is here. You can check out the facebook page for it here.
It’s five dollars to cover the venue fee and free entry into all of the tournaments. We’re running SSFIVAE, MvC3, and MK9 in a modified swiss format. It should be pretty cool, and this part of Alabama has really been lacking in tournament play. I hope plenty of you can come
Hey I’m Ethan, I’m from Dothan, but I use to go to Troy University. Our scene basically goes hand in hand with Troy, as Troy is really close and a lot of us that live here have gone to or are going to Troy University. The scene is kinda tied to Fanatix, but only because we have no other place to gather. The owner really doesn’t support the console gaming part of his business anymore, so the scene really fell apart. But myself and some others have kind of taken over planning and running events, and we’re in the process of gathering everyone back together on a semi-regular basis. You should come down to our events whenever you can. Our next one is Combo Breaker, and I know some other people in Troy are going. Hopefully you can make it out.
@ Skitz : I agree with you 100% bro. MK9 is the only new game that’s entertaining me right now. Not throwing salt on any game… if you have fun playing it, play it! I just like a game that requires a lot thinking and forces growth from its players, such as learning advanced tactics, frames, tech traps, etc. If a player isn’t doing their homework they should NOT be able to win. When the revamped 3S comes out hopefully the players around Huntsville can throw-down on a classic, im hyped for it!
Ummm people in Huntsville already play 3S, and most people also still prefer it. I prefer ST, but I also request arcade perfect on that. There are not many tourneys for 3S in the area, and we wind up training for tournaments on Thursdays. Bring a setup for it and it will get played. I know Derrick, Rick, James, Andy, and several others that play. Please contribute and add games.
So how’s the Alabama scene? I live in Kimberly, which is a little north of Birmingham and Gardendale/Fultondale. Does much go on in Birmingham? I’m just getting into 3S(yeah, kinda late on that one) and I’m looking to get AE soon.
If you want, I can bring my DC, Agetecs, and the VGA adapter box so we can run it on one of the monitors. I plan on adding a TE Kitty and RJ-45 to one of my other sticks so I will have two “Ultimate Sticks”. DC extension cords came in, and those are now compatible, but no VMU support. 3S only has data for Gill unlocked if I recall. Will have to have an Agetec plugged in for MVC2 for the unlock file there though. I won’t bring DC pads. Seems wrong.
I know I have seen you stop by and heard about the legend, but I think I have been too busy/out of it to chat with you.
I need to learn 3S. I missed that boat due to college/growing up/lack of arcades/and not giving it a fair shot. (I was an “it has to be the arcade version” snob at one point)
