The Asuka Kazama Thread

Found at a friend’s p-bucket/buy and sell thread, thought I’d share.

Anyone found a decent way to combo off of EX Onikubigari? Only move I’ve gotten to connect is EX Fallen Rain, and that’s not really the best use of 2 meters.

Personally, I’ve fond Tag canceling off Oni to be better anyways.

Anyways, what are people doing with Gems? I haven’t messed with them pretty much at all, and I’m not really sure how to approach it.

Fuck the chaos emeralds dude, I’m just using 2 attack gems and 1 meter gem. Once a good layout’s been established I’m gonna copy/paste that shit.

Yeah, some smart person will eventually work out maths and junk and post optimal gem loadouts.

Unless, they get tourney banned, then lol.

bMP-MK is +3 on hit AND block. sMP is 6f so dash canceling it is at least +6. It’s an easy link to sLP-MP-LP xx Lift Kicks.

I want to know how how the dash cancel mechanics work in this game. According to the guide, bMP-MK is 2f active and 25f recovery with +3f on hit/block. Her dash is 17f. The guide says she can cancel after 5f of Onikubigari charge. So… (1+25+3) - (17+5) = +7f. Maybe. I’m not an expert on the mechanics.

But I was working on this sequence today, I think it’s really strong. Great for pressure when blocked too. Might be good for whiff punishing at midscreen.

You can land MP-LP xx hcb+HK>2HK but the juggle link is tight. You can connect cr.MP or sLK as well which are both a bit easier because they’re 1f faster and their hitboxes are lower than MP. Late in the combo it’s not great, but if you use early it does a ton of damage and you can cancel the EX Onikubigari from a crossrush chain.

Haven’t tried that, but I think j.MP and j.HP work pretty well for ambiguous cross ups. In that, from the exact same distance, one will the latter will cross up while the former will not.

Yeah… i was kinda hoping someone would have something to steal already…

Maybe will get a super sonic emerald as DLC.

Asuka’s Dash is super, super good.

When my guide gets here tomorrow I’ll figure out all the potential CADC points and repost.

Also, EX Sweep throw is GDLK.

About sweep throw, EX is really nice, but I’ve actually been learning how to catch people with the regular one. I really like to save my meter for EX Falling Rain, “alpha counters” (a big part of her game for me in some match-ups, or Super/Cross Arts. Some characters and players are especially susceptible also. I have found it especially useful against Kazuya so far for some reason…

As for gems, I’m using Life Force and 2 Fortitude lv.2 gems for online and local play. 083, 092, and 161 to be more specific. The Fort gems I am using are from the Special Edition pre-order, which I’m pretty sure will be banned at tournies even when we do eventually use gems. Lv.1 Fort gems are still great. It’s nice though. If the Lv.2 fort gems absorb full damage and you add the life force to that, you’re basically looking at an Asuka with a mostly consistent 1290 hp instead of 950, and it really really shows. People have even commented about it. Fort > Iron Wall hands down. She is kind of a yomi/guessing character, so I felt that defensive gems were in order. Everyone guesses wrong sometimes. And of course everyone makes mistakes! I played with speed a little too, and while I’m sure it makes her jumps a bit harder to block or anti-air, and her footsies level up a bit, I didn’t really see noticeable results in matches. That is still my secondary layout though, and I want to continue trying it out here and there. Meter and power gems are what I used on day one, but meter builds too fast already, and Asuka+Law’s damage output is already retarded. I figure yellow and the orange really compliment Asuka’s archetype, and if nothing else, they can really compensate for my mistakes.

It’s worth noting though, that if you use a street fighter character with her that has good combos into launcher, I would then go back to using a red and blue gem that activates upon partner’s launch. I never launch with either character though, so I had to take a different approach obviously.

Yeah its been said before that her whole shoe for whatever reason doesnt have a hitbox =(

Yeah it’s not good. What’s even worse, is cLK actually has slightly MORE range than cMK and cMP, and a lot more than cLP.

Yeah, thankfully her s.LK range isn’t too shabby. I find that that after a chain into Oniku on block you’re usually just in range for an s.LK chained into more things.

Wow, that c.MK is brutal.

Anyone else find that :MP: Sweep grab the most useful other than EX?

Hi

Can someone answer some of my questions

  • the differences between Sweep Throw versions L,M or H is range right ?
  • the differences between Falling Rain versions is it angle or range?
  • the differences between Attack Reversal versions High , mid or low or range ?

thanks

-its just the range, no other difference
-falling rain versions have no difference.
-Reversal’s version vary how long it stays active. all versions counter all grounded moves.

you have to play to her strengths, which is the main one is the threat/use of her counter. if other people respect that it opens up new mind games for her that we havent really dived into yet.

yeah its hard to get in, but its not like you have to rush that shit down at first, let them come to you on your terms.

we have to figure out what capcom wanted her strengths and gameplay to be and exploit it.

Really falling rain versions have no difference. So its just bad ? I have been having a hard time landing it consistently.
Is that a image with the hitbox?
Sorry for asking all this but my Brady guide doesn’t ship untill tomorrow.

Reg failing rain has no invul frames. You can AA if you do it early like at the height of the enemies jump it can catch, but its not very reliable.

LK Counter: 48 frames of recovery. 1-25 are the frames of when it counters.
MK Counter:53 frames of recovery. 1-30 are the frames it can counter on.
HK Counter: 58 frames of recovery. 1-35 are the frames it counters.
EX is the same as HK just does more damage.

more frame data please!
