The art of Rapid Double-Tapping

Right here. Everything is fair game fingerwise. Though, I only resort to the pinky if I wanna use HK. But that’s only if strict timing isn’t an issue cause to get a quick response with a pinky tap I need a quick wrist movement. Whereas I don’t really need a wrist flick with the other fingers. Extra movement takes extra time=no good.

i saw someone at my arcade using the double tap technique and it seemed to work really well. i think we need clearer vids. but i’m still certain that daigo doesnt do this.

Somewhat related, I suppose…

How do you teach yourself to button mash?

For now, I’m getting by with piano inputs in SF4 and double-binding in SC4, but… I would like to know how to do this legitly.

My finger pad tends to “stick” to the button which slows me down, and I also can’t seem to move both index and middle very quickly (if I do, the presses aren’t registering).

… How do you train that, how do you work up to that? Is there a progression of some sort?!

If I press the button for my links more than once, they don’t seem to link. For example Ryu’s SFIV cr.mp, cr.mp. If I just mash cr.mp it doesn’t link. Any ideas?

I never knew I could do this.

It’s time to wreck my sticks. \m/

Ive always double-tap on buttons but I really don’t think it helps at all, it’s just something I was always comfortable doing.

Never knew about this either. Gonna start practicing, anything that helps string combos better would be worth looking into.

Anyone have beginner tips? The videos are too low res to make out much at all.

You get more chances to get the move out when double tapping I guess.

The only thing I double tap in 3S is FP after Makoto’s Karakusa.

Edit: I practiced Necro’s 6x db.FP against Urien by double tapping, however now I’m just trying to time each hit perfectly. SFIV links don’t have SHIT on this.

Hey guys i have a quick question about double tapping and was wondering if anyone could clarify it for me. Whats the best way to do it and how do u know u did it right, like if i double tapped lk would it show that i pressed 2x lk on the input display in training mode? thanks

Edit: Forgot one more thing =P, is it possible to do this with hori buttons? O.o

You gots to inversely flick them like you are angrily rubbing a two-headed clitoris.
A cerberus clitoris, if you will.

I don’t have any place I could find a cerberus clitoris.

… but I would think that point would be moot, for in the video I believe the fingers come off the surface (even if for a split second), while during the aforementioned stimulation the fingers stay on the surface to provide friction, or so I’ve heard.

Let’s solve this problem before it becomes horribly inappropriate, shall we…

i had this question too. i asked in the beginners thread and someone said that it does show up as two inputs. however i am still unsure. when i double tap my buttons, they show up as only 1 input. even when i do sagat’s fake kick successfully, it shows up as 1 input.

Heh someone in the Youtube comments caled it Twiddle Tapping. That’s a new one.

double tapping feels hella weird for me. Its probably because i’m a lefty, but double tapping just doesn’t feel organic or fluid at all when i try to do it. Gonna stick with timing my links i guess…

I double tap everything. Just seems to give me a better sense of rhythm. However, if I double tap a link into cancel, the last attack before the cancel only appears once on the input display for some reason, even though I definitely tap it twice. Maybe I’m just not hitting it hard enough…

Does anyone else have the problem where they accidentally hit mk if they double tap lp? This happens to me quite often because the arced 6 button layout has different spacing from lk/lp to mk/mp.

Pianoing supers on link imo is almost a must … fuck up and waste your bar and your f’ucking dead …

double tapping is fine, but just because someone says that they do it, doesn’t mean they do it for EVERY button press they do.

For example: Akuma’s extended BnB combos it’s cr.LK, cr. LP, cr.MP xx Hadouken, FADC, f.HK, cr.MP xx LK Tatsu, FP Shoryu

I double tap the LK, LP, and MP, but for cancels, I just use one tap. My fingers would go middle-index on LK, middle-index on LP, middle-index on MP, and almost as if it’s part of the same button sequence, my ring finger hits the HP hadouken, in a 2-1-3 succession.

I then double tap the f.HK, and cr.MP, but because the inputs have become very complex at this moment, my thumb is what I use for the cr.MP xx LK Tatsu, in a 3-2-1 succession. meaning my middle finger is “3”, index is “2”, and my thumb is “1”.

The 3-2-1 and 2-1-3 successions sound like a drum from HP to LP, if you’re wondering about speed and intervals.

im a new stick user coming from pad, and I dont understand this process at all. For example, vipers link short short cr. strong, if i was to try implement double tapping into it, would I would press each of the buttons twice really fast?

The only time I ever double tap is in the middle of combos (Melty Blood) it’s much more easier to consistently land the harder links, while in ST I only use it for my tick command throw/reversal dps.
