there is a reason the top players double or even triple tap, 1 frame links aren’t easy, but become easier by double tapping. Increasing your chances of hitting combos by 200%
if noticed that daigo doesnt double tap.
ok, so if i’m doind a crouching lk x 2 into fireball, i’ll have to double tap 4 times in total (may be even 6 times)?
Once you get used to link combos, the double tapping becomes pure style. It does increase your chances because of the fact that there is a slight pause in between the presses, so the double tap is almost like a timer for your finger.
When I first started playing CvS2 and Slayer in GGAC, I had to double tap(or drum) on each button in the combo in order to land my links.
I think it’s only useful for difficult link combos. If you’re talking about 3s, is there a Ken player in the world who can’t link together two crouching LKs with single tapping?
That’s because Ken’s cr lk’s are a chain not a link, an example of this linking would be yang’s cr lk x2 into ex slash which is much easier if you double tap 1 or both of the shorts.
that isn’t a link combo… it’s just a cancel combo. double tapping for anything that is not super timing specific is a waste.
I remember I read somewhere back in the day that double tapping originated from shooters. I dont know how true that is but it kinda makes sense. Especially from some of the older shooters, where you had to press 1 button to fire at a time. Though now, you just hold down the button to auto fire, on newer shooters usually.
I’ll add this video of Daigo’s hands, showing he does double tap on certain things:

To people who manually time their links - question.
Do you time your links for say…ken c.mp into super in 3rd strike? Or do you piano? Maybe it might just be the game you guys play, but everyone I know of “mashes” so I take no shame in “mashing”.
There is no art to it, just fucking practice.
@magnetomaniac
no i dun piano either…i think its along the same lines
i think its natural and common sense to “double-tap” or “mash” for links
because u increase the chance to pull it off
there should be no shame in doin it
however, the reason that i don’t do it, is because in other games, they penalize this kind of behaviour
so for me, the habit carried back into street fighter, where there is no downside…only upsides
i have no problems with any of the links i’ve tried so far in 3s by single presses
(granted i havent even tried most of them out)
that was the video i was referring to, you can tell he’s not double tapping because he doesnt claw his fingers like that fei long player and look how high he keeps his hand from the buttons. its all single presses.
Actually you can clearly tell from that video he’s double tapping…
0:22-0:25, you don’t see/hear jab clicking twice?
Back and to the left.
looks like a kara throw to me
(using thumb to hit lk)
maybe the fps is too low to tell
but it only looks like he comes down once on the button
Depends on the game, really. In CvS2, there’s a shit ton of link combos there and when I started playing, I had no choice but to drum it out in order to do any of them. After about 5 months, it just becomes muscle memory and you don’t have to drum on the button anymore. In some cases, you’ll drum it out if you feel your timing is gonna be off.
He does double tap in the video just not every second like certain players tend overdue. It’s just mainly to show that you dont have to double tap every single button press.
I only see one finger hitting one button. I can see him pressing 2 buttons simultaneously at some points but I cant see a particular instance where he’s rapidly using more than 1 finger on the same button.
We need a video like that Tsuji video showing daigo’s hand and the game being played.
I have a problem linking combo’s in ST especially with charge characters but on Super street fighter I can link every possible combo with any character, even with happ buttons.
you mean like this guy?

I personally think it’s awesome. I would double tap even if it doesn’t have any real use because it makes a cool sound that makes people think you’re good.
Speaking of hands, does anybody use their thumb to hit the LK button. I don’t really see anybody else doing it.
^lol d00d is finger dancing
also lol @ lap playing…thing moves around so much, u’d think hes humpin the dam thing o__o
@avion
i dun use thumb or pinky
but i kno ppl who use both
I’m in the exact boat as you man. This is my first time hearing about the double tap/drumming technique(I’ve heard of the piano). Cool to see some vids of how it actually works since I never understood the benefits. But anyways, for links I’ve just worked on timing everything. Like cvs2 with the lights to mediums or 3s. I always thought that if you mashed or pressed the button more than once, you miss the window of opportunity.
I always wondered why so many arcade players have waaaaay more clicks while playing than I do hahaha.
