"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

VersusCity.net reported this a while ago. Taken from Mago’s blog IIRC.

Your right though, it is hard to believe.

Ah yes you are right sir. It was indeed versuscity.net.

And i agree , it does seem hard to believe. However , figuring out his opponent has always been daigos strong side ( or one of them ) so its not UNbelievable , but i would really love to see that.

Yeah, post up some links in this mother

You can throw abel out of his roll. It would’ve made your life way easier in that match. Nice FADC ultra, and definitely nice c.mp, c.mp, c.mk at the end  Work on recognizing his low -> overhead -> throw move (change of direction). Block the first hit and it’s an auto srk.

Nice match dude. I do have a few things I’d like to say. You had good pressure, although it was all generated from jump ins. I know with Abel using a fireball can be dangerous so disregard this if he has an Ultra but your fireball is a valueable poke and if you can Abel think your ground game is too strong for him to simply walk through then he has to jump (granted you’re on the ball enough to throw him out of his rolls too) Anti-Air is candy for Ryu. LP SRK, Ultra/Super/EX Hadoken. All great to use. Try a little bit more forward pressure. Nice tick throws. Keep it up bro!!

Thanks for sharing the video with everyone…you mind if I put in my 2 cents? Congrats on the win, however there are serious flaws in your play style, the most important being your over aggression.

Now it isn’t bad to be overly aggressive, and with most players, they won’t punish you or stop you from doing so, however had this Abel been on his p’s and q’s, he should have been ex tornado’ing you after a lot of your jump in’s and in the middle of your string’s.

It seems as if you go on a Poongko mind set where you can just rush the opponent down all day, however there are clear holes in your lines of attack. It’s great that you can bully your opponent, but it’s also apparent that you get bullied pretty heavily back and sometimes don’t know what to do about it other then SRK out of it (which is a fairly risky option even if you have SADC).

All in all I guess all I’m trying to say is that though this was matchup specific (Abel can be bullied and jumped in a lot due to a lack of good anti air), you need to be a bit less aggressive. about 90% of your damage comes from an up close range the other 10% being a far game. When playing strong players they will MAKE you play that ground game, and STOP you from being overly aggressive…if this happens, this is a very large weak spot within your game and will probably cost you the match.

All in all, good job on the win, and I’ve seen your name quite a bit…sure would like to play against you and learn how to fight that aggressive style! If you’d like to play some matches hit me up!

Alright thanks for the advice guys.

I know Abel can ExThrow me out of many of Ryu’s combo strings…
I think he got me once during that match…
and that frustrates the heck out of me.

Yeah i would say my offense is better than my defense, I definitely need to work on my defense a bit more. There has been times that i would have to play heavy defense vs Balrog’s an such.
That’s where i usually lose. Although Balrog is a head matchup for Ryu in the end.

Anyway, I will take all this advice and work with it and see if i can get a better Ryu going.
Thanks.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Oh yeah and the tips against Abel have really increased my game against him.

So does anybody else have any new Ryu video footage of their own…?

Itabashi Zangief vs Ryu

This is my favorite Ryu player now, his movement is something everyone should learn. He really deserved to win this game.

Low quality makes this extremely painful to decipher…I could be 100% wrong it but looks like it says Tarichin

The 2nd to last character is hardest one to decipher >_<

In there next is Fudo vs Itabashi

i can’t really offer up critiques since you’re at a level well above mine, but i can say it’s great for a player like myself to see someone play [well] with a radically different style than my own.
i play pretty heavy on the defense, usually generating damage from punishing mistakes and consider rushing down my opponent to be one of my weaker points – and you have some exceptionally fast-paced offense there. i like it.

sup guys my first vid enjoy.

critiques welcome.

i just got the pinnacle video transfer and its so simple to use!!!

Nice FADC > Ultra at the end. I saw it coming, I don’t know how that opponent didn’t… One thing I’m really not liking is your tatsu cross up. 99 percent of the time it’s just leaving you open for attack when you land because it whiffs. A simple medium or light kick should work fine for the cross up whether it hits or not. The tatsu only hits if the person is careless and decides to stand up or jump. Nice stuff, though.

New Ryu Glitch

I discovered a new glitch today while recording a video:

Vs Crouching Boxer, you can hit with st.HK, FADC and go BEHIND him and then continue the combo:

Just posting again here so that members who only browse the Ryu forums don’t miss it!

thanks for the crit mane!
i actually was very tired last nite after work(4am) but decided to play anyways because i was so damn excited about the capture device haha. usually i can land those often and if they happen to block the cross up tatsu, they are at frame disadvantge, so im safe on block. but like you said if i whiff completely im gonna get punished hoaard!

like i said critique is welcome! i wanna really step up my ryu game.

SAGAT

hmmmmmm… its hard to critique the Sagat match cause dude was a total scrub, but I’ll have a go anyway
0:43:messed-up execution.

0:48 I’m glad he finally hit you in the air. You keep jumping, which isnt good. In this instance you (he’s slightly above you) you should have used j.mp.

0:55: he wiffs uppercaut and you lp SRK him? Dude; combo to punish.

1:18 : if you cant hit that combo dont use an FP SRK

1:25- free ultra, and AGAIN, you lp SRK.

was a random SRk at some point - never a good thing.

1:37 - 47: just block on wape-up; reversal SRK aint worth it.

2:05 : should have gone into EX Tatsu b4 ultra. If dude wasnt a total scrub you might have regretted leaving him that little bit of energy.

this was quite a nice match overall btw; you played safe for the most part, but punished well. Well done.

SIM

first 30 seconds: you had a nie psyche dp in there, which is good, ut then you tried a whole load of desperate shit to get in. People always seem to forget that you dont have to take all someones eenergy to win, and its just as important to defend your own. Sim wants to hit yu from distance; make him work for those hits. Take it slow, learn his habbits, then counter with FA or SRK (and yeah, you can tatsu, but I NEVER find it neccesary… just a personal thing I guess)
0:43 - that air tatsu to throw was nice, but I did wonder if it were a little lucky

1:03: whilst you mate hate Sim’sfireballs, SRKing one isnt generally considered healthy (he’d thrown it b4 you SRKd)

1_08 : If you want that tatsu to hit over fireballs, youre gonna need to have quicker reflexers.

1:37 :WTF? you had him killed.Make sure you timeyour cross-ups better. If you cant, look for something else (f.mpcomestomind, but there aremany options)

1:47: dont waste EX metre with long distance EX FB’s - its not likely to hit,.

most of the same points as above repeated over and over

4:22: you allowed him to win, just like in round 1. You should have SRKd when he teleported and you would have had a free ultra.

Youre not bad btw; work on your timing and play a little smarter. Dont rush in. You seem to be more concerned with your attack than defence - theyre equally important.

^

I think you are a little harsher than need be.

How am I being harsh? All my comments were constructive criticism. Not sure what youre talking about to be honest.

Just seems nitpicky is all. Pointing out so many mistakes seems overboard.

tbh thats just stupid… constructive crit is what everyone wants…

sitting back and going… ‘yeah that was pretty good, and pointing out peoples good ideas’ are useless, apart from inflating egos, and making people feel good…

we’re all here playing to win, and i’d personally take as much constructive crit as i could to up my game…

nothing harsh about constructive crit whatsoever
