"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

Sup everyone, here is a load of casual matches that my friend Evil (evileet on YT) and I recorded. I’m playing Ryu against his Akuma/Boxer/Dictator. Please post up what you like or don’t like (gameplay wise) about the matches.

Enjoy!

I thought you had a pretty solid Ryu there. I really want to get my combos down as well as you’ve got them there. Nothing really to crit, except (and I know this is a no no for scrubs) but you could have actually caught your buddy a few times with wakeup DPs. I think he knew you wouldn’t do it as we are all told not to once you up your game, but mixing it up every once and a while would have caught him off guard. Could have even set you up for the Ultra a couple times.

I guess I also saw a few opportunities for you to catch him mid air with a medium punch when you had the Ultra ready for that easy set up, but you never took it. Mixing up your air game beyond kicks would mess him up that much more. Very solid overall, though.

Thanks for the feedback! I believe you are referring to the Boxer vs Ryu matches? If you watch the earlier Akuma vids early in the session, I actually did wakeup DPs more often but I was being punished for it. So when he started playing Boxer I kinda held back on them. Good thinking though, I think if I did start doing them again when he switched to Boxer, it may have connected at times that he thought I wasn’t going to pull off DPs.

Not enough air MPs is also true. That is something that I am fully aware of and is slowly being incorporated into my game.

I will keep these things in mind. Appreciate the feedback! To anyone, if anything comes to mind, please post them up. We all can only learn from it and better ourselves!

Tons of new Poongko videos up…

dam i wish i could rush blankas like that.everytime im close to them i get electricuted.i guess the pro blankas use it alot

Man, I’ve never seen such an aggressive Ryu played so well.

His combos and the successful frequency of them during each match is just jaw dropping.

yeah i agree, his execution is amazing…but i just saw a match against zangief…he tried to rush em down, but failed miserably =\

Yeah he’s definitely one of the most fun players to watch

he takes alot of risks, they didn’t pay off in that match hehe

Btw, he uploaded alot more videos since I last posted that link…I think it’s Janet’s channel, the guy who fought Poongko in the Korean finals.

Your block strings and block string FADC Ultra was impressive. Well done dude. Makes me want to plug in and practicing block string to Ultra right now

Tons of online match video of Poongko ( Ryu ) vs Buin ( Sim )

Anyone knows what happened here @ 0:32?

Ryu seems to be in flames after throwing is Ultra against Sim’s Ultra but he does an EX srk after it.

Weird…

I think he was mashing for an SRK after his Ultra let out. Instead of him having to wait for the recovery animation to end, Sim’s Ultra hit him and immediately he got out of it with the SRK in waiting…I think.

Ok but why didn’t he took any dmg?

He was hit actually and it is noticeable if you look at the health bar closer.

Dhalsim’s ultra is 5 hits. Looks like the first 4 hit while Ryu is in his ultra startup invincibility frames so they are negated. But the last hits him and thus cancels his ultra recovery so he can DP.

Ok that makes sense.

Here is a very recent match of Daigo against Mago (Sagat) Player.

And as usual, Daigo loses to Mago, but these fights were real close!!!

Thanks for the link.

But hmm , as usual daigo loses? Iirc , daigo beat mago 21-9 in a longer set ( of obviously 30 matches… ) a month or two back . I dont remember the source , but it was one of the bigger gaming-sites i believe.

I like how Daigo is beginning to dash downed opponents in corners ala 3rd Strike, though not as effective of course. :bgrin:

Hey guys just a video i would like to post.

Feel free to critique.

Watch in HQ.

I’d like to see the source…Daigo doesn’t look like he can beat Mago THAT consistently. If anything he’s shown that he loses to specific characters being Akuma, Sagat, and Bison. Mago’s the best player with the cheapest character. And at top level I see that Ryu loses to Sagat.

My friend made a good point…I track BP records quite frequently…and if this “21 - 9” case was correct, then we should have seen a huge sky rocket in Daigo’s BP. This was not the case however…unless they played without using cards. At the same time, I refuse to believe that that Daigo > Mago 2 - 1…the difference in ability is not NEARLY that large.
