"The answer lies in the heart of battle." Ryu Video Thread

two words, fuck smash!

LOL. Yeah. I wasn’t too happy about that but they kept to their side of the room and stayed quiet (smash guys do NOT get hyped for their matches around here it seems) So it wasn’t too bad. Last time I went to a tourney I guess some DDR fags had the room after us and they got their a little early and watched us… fuckin DDR.

My most recent Ranbat. Me losing 8 matched straight against th best player in Ontario, JS Master. Advice appreciated, but, as previously said, ignore shit execution - cant use stick… this mostly happens when I constantly dash the wrong way out of FA (LOL).

Also, question. My basic fundamentals when I play someone of the skill level end up being lost. Should my objective be to constantly keep people at my prefered spacing (c.mk) or do I just have to go with the flow? - kind of a noob question, but I only got into SF with 4, so I’m missing some basic knowledge!.

Me losing much!!! - I’m sure this dude wins cause he has a much better understanding of fundamentals, having played SF through the years, where I started in February this year. He doesnt even main these characters!!! eeek!.. Please help me fill the gap! Mucho appreciation mafackas.

Just so I dont feel too bad, here’s one of me winning winners finals I WIN!!!

As I said, my weakness is that I havent played through the years where everyone else in our scene has. So please let me know where my fundamentals lack and what to do about it!

He’s my new fucking HERO.

you have to work on your skill and your general knowing of the game and most of all on your punish.

you never confirm lp shoryu into super even if it s super easy

you try to punish ex ball with ultra and die even you had super metter

you use to many kp shoryu. don t start having this habit one day someone will punish you hard no only witha cr.mk

attaking doesn t mean jump try to attack by walking and dashing i think i never saw you dash in the final fight…

what the point of doing cr.mk ex tatsu when your oponment is in the corner?
go for cr.mp instead and then try to confirm intot cr.mk ex fireball ultra or if it in guard keep pressur with throw anther cr.mp or a delayed ex tatsu

work on your shoryu AA and shoryu fadc ultra.

you can punish blanka slide with cr.mk tatsu

you can escape blanka ultra with ex shoryu instead of ultra.

if blanka does an ultra when you wake up that do cross up, there is no escape. so don t get throw if you are low in life…

you are patient and you try playing the match up, plus when you attack you mix nicely between tick throw and tick into combo.

if a blanka walk you can throw more fireball to do cheap dommage. you just have to wait when you are just before blanka cr.fierce punch range at this distance, it s hard for blanka to react against fireball with slide. just don t spam hado but you can use some more. and use more cr.lp to counnter blanka ball or blanka charging. but your opponment was nearly never charging always walking…

good work on wining

Thanks once again Ranix - much appreciated. As I said, my dashes never work on stick, so that’s why I didnt FADC ultra at all or dash much - thisa is also why I did .mp EX SRK in corner rather than EX FB > ultra… but other than that I’ll try to make use of your advice.

the ultra after blocked EX blanka ball was super dumb - dunno what I was thinking!

thanks a lot.

As I asked periously, when you play, do you always try to keep your opponent at the best spacing for that match? Or is the right spacing just an ideal that gets lost as the match progresses?

**BYTEX : ** I’m not sure what the issue was with the video, but it appears to be working now. Both Ranix and myself are able to watch via the link, please let me know if it doesnt work again.

It seems to me that you hit a point in each round that your frustration just takes over and you start to do stupid stuff.

Prdictability-wise, everytime you make contact with the opponet (range 1) you always eirther tick throw or shoryu. Your shoryu tends to come out after resets or wake-up. But that could be all from the fact that you dont have great execution on a stick, and therefore are resorting to basic throw and shoryu set-ups.

Blanks shouldnt be that much trouble, the only thing you have to look out for are surprise forward throw/ultra set-ups. Other than that he doesnt have much else going for him other than the steep angled jump. Then little things here and there, like dont throw hados, blanks can blanka ball through them, ultra through, and slide punch trhough. But just try to bait them out instead; Blanka’s slide punch is easy to punish.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can see that you’re sort of thinking what you are going to do. BUt maybe that is just playing defensive. For instance instead of just walking back and forth to play footies, actually play footies or get into another range if you’re not comfortable with it.

That’s what I’d do anyway.

Later on I’ll post up Air in the most recent tournament we had in Vancouver. Didn’t know you guys liked seeing him so much!

another ryu’s ultra combo setup without any ex meter on balrog and sagat

this one on sagat only :stuck_out_tongue: good damage too

uploaded 3 more on Abel, Seth and Zangief

on zangief it may not be practical as you won’t get that kind of a chance where gief is in the corner and you get a free jumpin but if you do, you know that this is possible.

Go to the channel of the guy who posted this vid. There should be some from Scrubby Dan (sagat) me (Kuma Oni) Kenny (Air), Yutaka (a Japanese exchange student… dude is only 19!!!) and Kenny’s friend (dunno his name)

PS: Kenny, Yutaka and Kenny’s friend all play Ryu. Honestly, top level play right here. Kenny and Yutaka are amazing!
EDIT: Oops! Looks like in that video Kenny is playing Akuma. Yutaka is playing Ryu vs Dan though. That’s a good match

very nice set.

so both are japanes living in canada or popo is just there in holidays?

both are smart ryu

Well I dunno about Popo… But I do know that Air is home here in Canada for a bit. Around the end of December he leaves for Japan again to train in the great art of cooking.

EDIT: Ranix, Air/Kenny is not Japanese, he’s Chinese I believe

… and versus fighting

LOL ooooh, I didn’t know Yutaka’s user name was popojiro (he doesn’t speak english too too well and I never considered it) So yeah, Popojiro is here until late Decemeber and then he goes back home to Japan. Everytime I see him I tell him I have spare room in my dresser where he could sleep and that he should stay in Canada. Let’s hope he does!

hahhahaahha, seinfeld status

ending of sagat ryu match will make u shit bricks

that was pretty ridiculous indeed!!

Why the hell would that Ryu air tatsu to escape when he wasnt in the corner, had the lead and had like, 3 seconds left before he could just ultra to kill the clock? Sutpid as fuck.
