Flowers, the point is that, if your looking for advice on how to improve against Ryu, watching you beat scrubs doesn’t show us anything. If we see you lose, we’ll see what you are getting hit by and where you need to improve.
This thread isn’t for boasting about beating someone. It’s for discussion on videos of top Ryu players, and to a lesser extant, vids of the rest of us looking for a bit of advice.
but i am still a scrub, i can’t even beat balrog i missed my combo soo many times and all, if you youtube me, you’ll see how bad i am i’m at total scrub
here’s one of Ryu vs Vega

I’m Ryu, my brother’s Vega… we play all the time so the fight might look a little odd. I missed more than a few combos in this one but any feedback on my general gameplan?
-Too much Focus
-Too much jump ( you don’t need to jump on Vega’s wake up, he’s almost free when he gets up, so you are better of staying on the ground to make him guess )
-Ryu’s sweep is not so good, avoid doing it unless you know it will connect
-And guys, stop wasting your Ex meter so easily, ex fireball from a screen away is useless
Aside from that, your blockstrings are ok, but as you said you dropped a few combos. Don’t forget you can walk in or dash in and poke with cr.mk. When Vega ( or anyone else ) is in the corner, you want him to stay there, if you can resist the urge of jumping in, then you will play in his head and all you have to do is play on reaction.
I don’t advocate doing random sweeps against almost anyone (especially someone like vega who can outrange you on the ground and punish your whiffed sweeps)
but hitting Vega with a sweep is great because he is quite susceptible to safejumps. I safejump every time I sweep vega - his only real option is to block and then you get a sick guessing game.
If he does anything except block, backflip, or backdash you will hit it and you can combo into c.lp c.mp sweep (and safejump again) or a high-damage combo if you want.
If he does backflip or backdash you can walk forward and sweep him during the recovery.
So his only option is block, and that is a really great place for Ryu to put the pressure on
I’m spamming focus right now to figure out where it does and doesn’t work since it is something I never used that often before. Ryu’s sweep is awesome… and if you don’t cross Vega up, he has a reversal that will beat throws clean and most normals as well. To deal with cross ups he has nothing but back dash and backflip
well that is not entirely true, he can also do ex wall dive and vega can decide which wall he wants to go to , the one with the kick can attack twice (first one is on his way to the wall)
yes he can. As far as I can tell scarlet terror is airborne from frame 1… beats throws, goes over low meaties on its startup frames and will trade with anything active during its hitting frames. It does 100 damage on the first hit and launches you. He only gets reset, you get knocked down and odds are you did not get a trade in your favor. ambiguous jump ins on his wake up are your best option.
EX wall dive has 8 frame startup and no invincibility whatsoever
