The Anime and Manga Thread v.3: Read the 1st post for FAQ, tips and chatroom details!

Fall season this year might have a couple of good sequels in the wings.

Will do, gents.

See, that’s one of the series that I had a hard time classifying. I know it should be more or less in the fantasy adventure genre, but the mechs also kinda make it a mecha series, though not as much compared to the rest of the list.

Loved that series a lot though. :lovin:

 First thing that came in mind when I saw the show.

But before that, summer with The Musings of Horo and Lawrence 2.

If we’re talking “moving” anime OP/ED, my vote goes to Loveless ED:

Such a sad song.

That, or the ED for Fate/Stay… It gives me goose bumps of epicness for some reason, even though it’s a quite “simple” video.

Edit: Oh, and add Minami-ke and Genshiken to Slice of life(or comedy), and Saki to boardgames (unless we’re only listing “good” anime, then I’m not sure. It’s not even done running yet, and what I’ve seen have been so-so).

^ Yeah, for stuff like Saki, it might have to wait till the end of it’s run. K-ON is there though because half-way in it still is highly well-liked and it’s doubtful that it may drop in quality (unless I’m wrong) because well, it’s a simplistic slice of life series.

As for awesome OPs, Gasa already posted the Busou Renkin one; there’s also 5XxRVAkYQcQ]2nd Death Note OP, Xam’d’s 1st OP and which I liked in both visuals and audio.

seriously im still pissed…i never got to finish the series. i was loving that shit…me and my mom would be watching that in the mornings.

@Loler: Yeah, that second Death Note is awesome! One of my favs as well
Havn’t watched the other two series, but those were great too. I’ve been meaning to watch Cantabile… Do you recommend it?
Mnemosyne had a nice OP too.
Also, Maria+Holic OP (unyoutube-able apparently, probably because of Media Factory…?) Too bad that show didn’t really live up to my expectations of it. It was just okay.

Very much so.

Not only is the type of music highly relevant to my interest (I absolutely adore classical music, though Season 2 lessened up the concert/music bits compared to the 1st) but main characters Shinichi and Nodame are well developed and are one of the more unorthodox couples yet. Shinichi especially, when you get to see him the first few episodes and then later on near the end of Season 1 and in many parts of Season 2. Apparently there’s going to be a 3rd one as well, so all the better.

Besides, Nodame’s “GYABO!” and “MUKYA!” never gets old.

Also got to watch Gintama 109 earlier (will watch 110 later) and laughed at the appearance of a certain action movie star

The Xamd ED was fucking amazing too, one of my all-time favs for song+animation

Mna, Escaflowne still ranks as my favorite anime of all time. It pretty much had the perfect balance of action, pacing, character development, and story telling. Some minor gripes here and there but overall I couldn’t complain too much about it. Also, one of Yoko Kanno’s best works.

Not watching Nodame is criminal. Everyone needs to watch that show at some point in time. Same with Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

Anyways, I can’t understand the obsession with Sore ga Ai Deshou. It is a good song and the opening animation was really well done but I always liked the 3rd opening to FMP better than Sore ga Ai Deshou. The ending theme to FMP! Fumoffu was also top tier stuff. Can’t really go wrong with Mikuni Shimokawa still love the opening song to Grenadier. Too many good OP+ED’s to list. I need to go through my Ipod and pick out the really good stuff.

yes, it was SO GOOD!!!

Hey guys, I’m trying to find this one manga series that I’ve seen a while ago, but I have no idea what it’s called. Here’s what I can remember.

The story is about this scronny Japanese guy (I believe he was still in high school) who learns how to kickbox - muay thai style. He gets training from this old man. His sparring buddy is also a young guy like him, but he’s black. I think the main character wants to learn how to fight so he could fight the bullies at school and impress the ladies. His first fight (I think) was at school against another Japanese guy who has a flat top hair cut - might have been in Karate uniform. The dude punches the wall barely missing the main character, and leaves a hole in the wall. Later in the series, this karate guy gets his ass beat by some other guy.

The old man trainer makes him practice a lot of seemingly non-fighting related chores. The main character usually applies these skills later in fighting and realizes how effective those chores were.

Throughout the story, the scronny guy usually fights really strong opponents, but always somehow manages to win. It’s an action comedy. The main character makes a lot of funny strained faces.

Probably published early/mid 90s (?)

Any ideas? Much appreciated.

The whole Jackie Chan thing was pretty funny.

Well looks like Rumiko’s newest series is underway.

It’s called Kyoukai no Rinne, and to put it simply, it’s a reverse Bleach scenario.

So far it’s not bad, but nowhere nears as original as her other offerings were this early in.

Still, being the complete and utter Rumiko fanboy that I am, I can’t help be giddy because I’m positive I’m going to enjoy this series too.

:3

…and yet Leerin is my least favorite of the three. =(

Here’s Revoltech’s figure for Eva Unit 05 that will be used in the 2nd Eva movie. This is a completely different design from the Unit 05 that was shown in the End of Eva movie so if you don’t want to be spoiled do not click on the link.

I pretty much jizzed in my pants with this new Eva design. I can only imagine how awesome it will be in the new movie.
