that article was pretty empty. they basically said “oh well you can’t browse the web or do stuff like movies on it so it isn’t that great. oh yeah it’s slippery too.”
there are tons of things that only have “a handful of practical uses” but if something is able to function extremely well at as little as one thing then it will have it’s market.
i am starting to think that it won’t come over to the u.s. though. at least it’s still great to see companies innovating and improving.
Well, I could see certain points it made as being cause for concern: Back too slippery due to digital ink surface, back will be easier to break now, back screen not very touch responsive.
IF YotaPhone can address those issues well, then they’ll have a winner. They’re apparently looking into later doing color digital ink on future models. I’m sure this will be where they start to see the potential for breaking through to be a big market player. Hopefully they have sustainability in Europe to make it that far.
Back to my phone buying goals.
How do you feel LI batteries are doing as far as long-term usability is concerned? I’m considering modifying my Golden Rules of Android Phones to only include having a MicroSD slot. If I don’t have to live in fear of my phone’s battery life nosediving a few months into ownership due to battery failure, then I might buy one that only includes extended storage capacity and just carry around a portable charging station if I think I’m going to need to recharge and won’t have an outlet to plug into.
i hadn’t heard of them looking into color e ink. that’d be pretty cool but they should make sure the black eink works first, especially the responsiveness to touch. you shouldn’t expect to be able to game on it or something but transitions should at least be smooth.
my note 3 will last from the time i unplug in the morning to the time i ususally get home (around 14 hours) and still have anywhere between 20 and 40% battery life left. i do carry an extra battery in my wallet but haven’t had to use it very often. i even got a 10000 mah battery pack that i leave charged in my car but friends have used it more than i have. i think a spare battery in your wallet is the best way to go.
Well, that’s what I’ve been doing with my Optimus 3D. Korean phones always come with an extra battery, so I carry it with me everywhere. I usually end up topping off my battery when/if I can though.
Note 3’s battery is godlike. I work 12 hour shifts and very rarely do I feel the need to use my portable charger. I even stream sports for a bit everytime.
I learned a long time ago never to update anything from the play store. first thing I do is turn off auto update all apps in Play store settings.
in reality it should be unchecked from the getgo.
But playstore loves to cause your phone’s entire free space memory to be gobbled up in a day. like 500MB in just 24 hours with auto updates on.
fucking restless developers syndrome is what its called.
all stock apps including chrome work perfectly straight out the factory box.
all these damn updates either ruin the functionality of the app or fill precious memory with useless tinkered data.
why did you “have” to do the update? i’ll assume you were signed into chrome.
most people like QuickPic.
not so much for slideshows but just in general.
I recommend gallery cleaner too.
some cache cleaners don’t clean photos and videos storage space.
I had 1.33gb of memory used up due to photos.
deleted the photos but it didn’t delete the cache.
so it still said 1.33gb used for photos even though I had no photos on my phone.
no cache cleaner fixed it.
only Gallery Cleaner wiped the cache away.
oh shit.
I just discovered a great cache cleaner app!
its called SD Maid.
if your phone is rooted it can delete any app’s updates and restore the app back to how it was originally on 1st time installation.
This is the greatest thing ever.
Every dumb update that has screwed up an app can now be removed and the app back to its original form when you first installed it. or factory installment if it was pre-installed and not downloaded. oh yeah!
plus it deletes all that free memory consuming bloat data that comes with an app’s update.
I woke up this morning to find a dialog box saying my phone tried to update, but that I need to insert my Korean SIM card to get the update. I’m wondering if this is Kitkat?
Kies says my firmware is up to date, so I don’t know though.
I wanted some recommendations for a new Verizon Android smartphone :
I use stock stuff, no roms, hacking whatever.
I use the phone mostly for texts, youtube, music and photos.
budget: 100-200 US
Screen Size: Not bigger than 5/5.1 inch. No galaxy note for me lol
I have an old Droid X from 2010, and I was thinking of getting the Droid Maxx, since the battery seems killer, but the specs seem kinda old.
Samsung Galaxy 5 looks tight, but I’m worried about reception/battery life.
I, too, have used PdaNet+ < http://pdanet.co/ >. I have successfully connected two Android-based tablets to it – a Transformer Pad (from ASUS) and a Nexus 7. Data transfer speeds aren’t the best, but it’ll certainly help you out in a pinch. Basically, your tablet connects wirelessly to the smartphone via Bluetooth, and the smartphone acts like a Wi-Fi hotspot (to all Bluetooth-connected devices) & sends/receives data (to/from the 'Net) through the 3G or 4G connection provided by your cell phone carrier. I’ve managed to watch some HD res. videos from YouTube.com using that “mobile hot-spot” set-up.
are there different types of 3.5mm earbuds? usually I use bluetooth but sound lags for gaming and I need to use a wired headset. the samsung I have doesn’t fit. it goes half way in. for movies I only hear music and no speech. gaming sound is very low and can barely hear anything. are there any specific earbuds for tablets??
I updated to 4.4.2 on my Note 3 for verizon and now it seems my battery drains twice as fast as it did before the update. is this happening to anyone else?
I now have 29 gb of internal memory.
My phone no longer recognizes my external microSd card as a external card. It only sees it as my internal. Having a micro SD card doesn’t even show up in my settings/storage anymore. It also doesn’t recognize my internal anymore. it views my microSdcard as the internal.
So I have 29gb of internal memory now. With 19gb of free space!
I had a 32gb micro SD.
Shoulda bought myself a 64gb one.
Ah, the joys of rooting!
Now I can download anything I want without worrying about space/storage. just last night I downloaded 2 2gb size games to my phone.
Jealous?
I enjoy pimpin out my 100 buck phone to end up better than 700+ dollar phones. Spending one Benjamin is all you really need for any smartphone. swag
Dragon Quest 8 is on google playstore!
But it has issues
Reviewers say it has framerate issues on some phones, there’s no voice acting, and missing some animations like when Hero transforms into Dragon “saiyan” mode. Other than that it seems like its the complete game.
I think it would be best to just dl a ps2 emu and get the rom if you wanna play it on your phone/tablet.
its expensive though.
20 buckaroos!
jeez.
