- Project Ara a.k.a. Phonebloks and how I’ve just jitzed my pants just thinking about the concept. In North America, this might not fly as well as it needs to because of the locks on contract and phone purchases for plans. The companies who are backing this are not even in the mobile space as much as Motorola is, but tech wise, they’ve been around the block. I saw Hitachi in that list there, I think, so the hardware is there. Hopefully, BlackBerry will do the same if they’re “absorbed” or not. I’d love a 1080p phone with a BlackBerry battery.
In my opinion, Phoneblok’s first concepts were better looking than Motorola’s Ara physicals. Hopefully, we’ll see various sized boards. You won’t have much physical customizing with Motorola’s from what’s shown, though. Yet, I’m sure they’ve figured out the logistics to it and is more feasible from what they have. It would reduce cell waste immensely, but other phone OEMs will probably despise the idea. Especially because of the Open Hardware Alliance on Android. PLENTY of companies could get screwed on that end if the technology gets to a high performance quality level and boasts affordable MSRPs. I’m still JAZZED AS FAK THOUGH!

what do you guys think of the camera on the note 3? also is there a way to display full text messages on your screen instead of it saying 2 messages and who its from. i want to be able to read the messages without having to unlock my phone.
camera in regular lighting has been ok. i usually just take pictures of my dogs though.
what provider are you on spidey? i don’t know much about the others but tmobile has an awesome development community on xda right now. i don’t know if att and sprint are able to flash custom roms yet. im pretty sure verizon will never be able to.
i found this for your text message problem. if the message is too long it WILL get split into more than 1message though…is that the issue?
i got verizon. Is there a way to get my messages to appear like this on the lockscreen? On my note it just says 3 messages. I want to preview/read my messages with out having to unlock the phone.

I use Handcent SMS so when I get a text there’s a pop up that show’s a good part of the message. It appears through lockscreen too.

I looked at an S4 and if the Note 3 is the same then try going into the messaging app settings and under notification settings check the preview message box.
As for apps I would put on a large screen phone would be LMT Launcher (pie control), Switchr looks pretty good, Lux Dash for inteligent brightness control and on my Nexus 4 it makes it even dimmer for night usage, and GMD Guestures (ipad gestures on your phone) would be very good for your Note. All of them require root. For non root I would install Snapdragon BatteryGuru since it’s made by a company that’s owned by Qualcomm.
just wait for the nexus 5 to be available again in a few weeks. its 350 off contract. if that’s going to be the price ever year then i think most people would be able to upgrade every year outright. also i’m sure you could probably get at least 100 bucks for the nexus 5 when the nexus 6 comes out next year reducing the cost even more.
if the nexus line is going to start including the top of the line processors every year then just about every other android phone out there is fucked. i just don’t think the micro sd and removable battery in the s5 will be worth DOUBLE the price of a nexus. it really is a game changer imo.
i’ve been trying to get my friend to leave sprint for months. we did speed tests last night, he was pulling .5 mb down and i was getting 20+. i mean that’s FORTY times faster. i don’t know what sort of speeds you’re getting on sprint but those are the same speeds i was getting a year ago. not surprised that a year later sprint hasn’t done shit about it. we were in berkeley and he was on 3g while i had lte but he says when he’s at home in the city he gets lte and about 8-10 mb down. when i’m at home with full bars i get 35-40. just something to think about.
AFAIK T Mobile doesn’t throttle too. Me and my friend also did speed test yesterday and his sprint plan gave him 0.71mbps, LOL. Meanwhile I’m on my phone downloading torrents and shit. Then again I’m from LA so Sprint must really suck out here in the West Coast.
I hear metropcs on the west coast has amazing 4g.
but I wouldn’t know. i’m on the east coast and just optimum wifi my data so I get 43mbps dl+23mbps ul with a ping of 10
that’s at home.
outside I can just log on to optimum wifi network with their optimum wifi register app which lets me connect to different hot spots.
I get like half the speed that I get at home at times but its still better than 4g
with 4g I get 5mbps dl and 8 mbps up.
and 69 ping! ugh.
