The Android thread. Questions, comments, help, etc

what I want is to be able to save and to boot up games from the external SD card.
not just JSR but all the games I have and plan to have.
some games I want are over 1gb in size.
or 500mb.
still too large.

i’m gonna root.
coz I downloaded the only file manager that could move games from the LG Motions internal to the external sd. and that was the ES file manager.

every other file manager was useless. totally unable to move apps to the sd card regarding the motion.

but after I moved it to the sd card I launched the game and all it did was move it back to internal before starting up. so its hopeless pointless without rooting.
with rooting I can keep the games on sd AND launch from the sd. so they’ll never be a problem regarding memory usage or storage ever again.

p.s.
the act of moving the game from internal to sd card using the non root es file manager way caused all my save point data to be lost. so ll my mission completion got wiped out.
:frowning:

wish me luck I don’t brick it or half brick it.

Yeah I’m on T Mobile now. Alright I’ll hit you up when I’m not working and actually have time to root. I’m still lost on this thing. I just discovered Dashclock lol

rooting and flashing isn’t too bad. i think it’s near impossible to actually brick your phone nowadays. there’s only one custom rom out for the note 3 right now but it’s solid.

dashclock is pretty dope! i don’t use it though because it won’t work with the pattern unlock on samsung phones and i like that extra bit of security since i’m always walking away from my shit at the gym or something.

Just messed with it a little. It is actually pretty cool. Windows layout with android widgets. Do you know if you can edit gestures? I want to hide the status bar but I want to swipe down for it to show.

Oh and uhhhh… Which launcher 8 are you using? I see like 3 different ones.

Way late on this but just started using Clean Master, frees up a ton of space.

I have not spent my upgrade yet since I am a cheap ass and love my Gnex still…but that Note 3 is calling to me. Think it will drop from $299 ever?

Considering the S4 but isn’t S5 coming relatively soon also?

yeah I have cleanmaster. but that can only do so much. remember that jet set radio is 1.75 gb. that’s huge. I also have super monkey ball 2 which takes up around 500mb and kof 13 android which also takes up 500mb.

so that’s why i’m desperate to move games to the external sd and to launch the games from the external sd.

now I tried rooting but I got stuck at the part where astro file manager gives you the ability to install the apk file that lets you root. the problem was that the astro file manager didn’t produce a pop up that said install. no file manger I tried did.

I have only two explanations.
1-i musta put the rooting file in the wrong place on my android
or
2-i left my avast security administrator powers in control checkbox checked in the systems settings.
(most probably that’s what went wrong)

lets forget about rooting and watch these two vids and tell me your thoughts. this guy claims its possible to manage google play store downloading and installing apps where you can download, save, and launch apps from your sd card

Just got home with my Note 3. I wanted to rub my dick on it, but I was in public.

That’s no longer an issue.

which carrier?

Verizon, that’s why it took me so long. First impressions (outside of the normal ones) is that the voice recognition is absolutely fantastic. Granted I’ve got pretty good diction, but it hasn’t missed a word yet. I haven’t been trying to stump it, but when I said “teamcoco.com” and it took me there without a hitch that was the icing on the cake. I told it to youtube stuff, and it did it without a problem. Don’t have any Siri experience, but this thing is REALLY nice when picking up words. I haven’t tried commands yet; only internet searches.

I am using the “original” one I guess.

lets you make anything if you are good with photoshop. that and get random apps for animated widgets and you got animation too. eventually I will make a badass cvs2 theme.

I dont know what gesture editing means.

Ok cool that’s the one I’m using now too. I tried the one by the maker of Launcher 7 and that shit crashed on me so I uninstalled it ASAP.

What I mean by gestures is, on other launchers, you can edit what you want swiping down/up/left/right will do on your screen. Such as swiping down anywhere on the screen will open the status bar instead of having to actually swipe at the bar at the top.

oh no I dont think it has that. but it lets you use any icon/widget and link to whatever app you wanna launch. neat stuff. can’t wait to waste time at work and make some cvs2 stuff lool…

so I got that method of downloading games and apps onto the external sd card that the vid I listed shows actually working.

I downloaded jet set radio from google play store…and it went directly into the sd card!

but sadly, just like with the ES file manager that can move games and apps to the sd card that no other file manager can achieve with the LG motion…once I boot up the game…it again went back into internal memory. if only it would just stay there in the external memory card:/

there is a way to fool an android phone into thinking the external sd card is the internal and the internal is the external…but it only works for rooted phones.

Is there a way to write directly into forum comment fields via the S pen?

Apps I mainly use.

Pie Control
Swiftkey
PowerAmp

Love Pie control. Open quicker than even a desktop machine.

Right now, I have an old Virgin phone I only use on wifi to run apps. By the end of November I might have as many as six phones. Will definitely be buying a Droid Bionic (used for about 60 bucks, to run on the free phone service I have due to being my mom’s caretaker) and Nexus 5 next week (assuming the rumors hold true). Will probably buy a [Moto X](http://www.republicwireless.com/moto-x) next month as a backup/home phone, or maybe even main line, since plans start at $5/month. May buy whatever phone ends up here eventually as well, because hey, free phone service. And at some point I’ll also get either an iPod touch or iPhone if I can get one cheap enough and use some cheap plan or mobile hotspot to keep them connected. I’m gonna have a lot of catching up to do.

i rooted my phone.

everything is fine. everything works.
no problem.
now i just need to find an app that can launch/boot up games from the external micro sd card without the game going into the internal memory just to boot up.

so I resolved the memory storage problem.
after rooting my phone I downloaded GL TO SD (ROOT) app from google play store and moved Jet Set Radio(1.75gb), king of fighters xiii android(500mb), and super monkey ball 2(500mb) to the external micro sd card.
my memory card is a class 4 32gb card.
I should have a class 10 card to get maximum in game performance but a class 4 seemed to work fine. I didn’t notice any real issues with load time or anything.

now, after launching the game with the GL to SD app…the games boot up fine, the memory storage stays in the sd card and doesn’t go back to the internal, and the game’s in game progress gets saved and isn’t lost with either the transfer of memory files or the boot up of the game from the sd.

ie,…all my memory & storage problems are now resolved.

lastly, rooting didn’t harm my phone at all and it doesn’t run any slower at all. I think in some ways its speed actually improved.
=)
thanks to rooting my phone and using GL to SD I now have 38gb of usable memory storage that can be used to launch apps from.
gdlk.
there is also this app called Directory Bind that works the same way.

p.s.
the GL to SD app can move any app to the sd card and launch it from the sd. its not just game files.

now to download some huge ass games! lmao!

Finally got myself an S4, had a couple questions for you guys.

  1. I work at a phone company, first Android though was a BlackBerry rep (fuck my life right? needed the free phone at the time) for most of the time I’ve been working there. Our resident Android expert says he doesn’t bother rooting his phones, but I’ve seen many people say it’s one of the first things you should do. What are the benefits/disadvantages?

  2. What are some must-have apps? I’m getting SwiftKey and Nova Launcher right off the bat, looking for some productivity apps and organizers, as well as things that’ll let me customize the device more to my liking.

  3. Any way to get rid of the retarded amount of stock apps?
