The Android thread. Questions, comments, help, etc

The HTC One, obviously.

Somehow I missed that this thread existed. So who’s using their tablet or phone as a remote control besides me?

Not very obvious considering HTC’s rep for faulty hardware and poor support. S4 and HTC One are reportedly both good phones, however, so it’s all about what gimmicks you’d prefer.

If I didn’t just get my S3 last year, I’d be getting the S4 because of the camera software, additional storage, and removable battery. That’s just me, though.

Instead of getting a new phone to replace my S2 (which I bought TWO months before they released S3, FML) I bought the Google Nexus 7 but I havent really used it yet. What are the cool stuff I can do with this tablet? Ive asked friends who own tablets… almost all of them answered… for games… smh. I have my 3DS for that.

Maybe recommend me some “must-have” apps too… Thanks

Anyone know if there’s an app that lets me record touches and plays it back, sort of like a macro.

Well… I wasn’t going to buy Chrono Trigger but it comes with the 2 new areas that were in the DS version so I caved in. Starting yet another file. It’s pretty cool how the residents who teach you controls of the game tell you about the touch screen stuff now.

Games are alright on the N7, there’s some great apps that the 3ds doesn’t have. Aside from that, I use it for reading books with the Kindle app, CNN app is great if you have it on your cable system, you can stream it wherever you have a wifi connection, copilot GPS for navigation, though you can tether it to your phone and use Google maps if you like, Flipboard is a great news reader, Mightytext links your tablet and phone so you can send text messages on your tablet, MX player is one of the best video players out there, Netflix if you’re a subscriber, Pandora, there’s just about anything you can think of.

Samsung S4 already seems to big, I don’t even know how I’ll be able to use the Note as a phone

Tablets are great for general media consumption, like watching videos, listening to music, reading web content and ebooks, etc. without be tied down to a computer the whole time. I feel way more comfortable reading a book on a tablet than trying to do it on a phone or a computer.

So…what’s the latest firmware I can put onto my trusty Droidx? Currently running Gingerbread/2.3. Also, just got dat sf4…connection is fine, but still the game times out while trying to download resources.

…my thunderbolt is dying fast. i need the end of the month to get here so i can get an s4 on verizon. for w/e reason, i think the screen on my thunderbolt must be too close to the scensors or something. the “e” button died a few days ago, then yesterday after i turned it on after work…it randomly started spazzing and typing and then suddenly it types the “e” button. its been going crazy for 2 days where it just randomly selects apps and types.

Thinkin about rooting my Evo shift. Would you guys recommend doing so.

Decided to go ahead and root.
It was worth it just to get rid of all the bloatware crap.
Now I am going to do some research on some roms and see which to install.

How long ago did you get it? I would think youre up for an Upgrade soon?

I am actually near the end of the year, but I have been wanting to root it for some time so I figured why not. Get some more life out of the phone, I actually love this shift even though it is pretty outdated. I absolutely love the keyboard.

I’m still trying to decide what phone to get. Looking to pick something up by the end of the month. What are the best deals going out there in Android world?

Id go with S3

but then again I use the xperia play because I feel the need to play random vidya whenever

I should have said without a contract, because never doing a contract again.

does that mean you’re willing to pay 600+ for an s4 or htc one?? if so and you’re looking to get a phone now rather than later those 2 and the note 2 are the heavy hitters right now. if you can, i’d say wait for the note 3 around october.

if you don’t want to spend that much the only other phone to consider is the nexus 4. 8 gig is only 300 but i’d recommend the 16 gig for 350.

I’d pay $600 for an S4 or HTC One now over paying $1500 for it over the next two years. I’d prefer if there was a way not to pay that much, but if not, then I’ll deal. I originally planned to get the Nexus 4 specifically because it was the best deal, but the lack of external storage is a bit of a turnoff to me, so I’m looking at other options. I’m actually considering being a guinea pig when these get released at the end of the month.
