If you’re not rooted, see about doing so; that way you can install a custom ROM and a kernel that can govern your battery consumption better.
Running a Skyrocket ICS rom on my Tmo SGS2. The joys of being rooted.
Thanks I’m actually doing this now. I’ve had it rooted for a while but left everything else alone for the most part. Going to try this CM9 ROM I’m eyeballing.
Very True. I have a Rezound that is running an ICS based ROM. HTC needs to hurry up and release the main ICS update with Sense 4. Those guys that write the code from a leaked RUU is impressive, but the real thing definitely helps with the feature set.
My friend here at work is rooting and putting ICS on his Galaxy Note tonight…I will report if it goes well and what he did.
I’ve debated rooting my Atrix 2 for awhile now. Really it would allow me to finally remove the camera’s shutter sound (which apps can’t mute), remove bloatware apps I don’t use, and use screenshot apps that need a rooted phone.
My thing is ICS is announced and on the way, and I probably will forget phone is rooted when installing the update. Will that fuck up the phone? Or will it just make me have to root it again with no other issues?
Wait until a rooted update is available for that update. Otherwise, the update more than likely WILL update your recovery which could make a currently available exploit useless.
Any of you guys on CM7 having issues with your sms tones? I’ve got mine set on a factory one and it only vibrates when notified. No sound. I’ve set it to a tone, double checked the volume for notifications. And no go.
No one from what i can tell on xda is having the same issue. HTC Glacier, CM7.2 RC1.
If I have to root it again, I can live with that. I just don’t want side effects to happen from updating a rooted phone.
I’m just gonna go ahead and do it and put a reminder on my phone. ICS won’t come until July/August anyway.
You also run a small chance of bricking your phone if you’re updating to stock from a rooted. If you plan on going stock, flash back complete to stock then update to the latest stock.
Upgrade due at the end of the month, not sure whether to stay with Tmobile or not.
What are peoples experiences with the Samsung galaxy s2 an also the Galaxy note? Never had an android phone bt I’m pretty tempted, like the bigger screen size esp on the Note
Said to hell with my dead droid x, won a new one on ebay for 50 bucks…this lil’ bastard has Gingerbread!! What special features does THAT have?
CRT animations with screen on/screen of. Simple text editing (cut/copy/pasta). That was mainly it, as the more significant step was in Honeycomb (tablets only).
So I bricked my Bionic trying to put on that CM9 ICS ROM. After days of frustration trying to fix it, I got it flashed back to stock (I think) and it seems to be working better than before. Haven’t noticed it overheating yet during normal activity, other than using it for wifi hotspot (which I expect to get hot).
Got my Galaxy Nexus on Friday; everything works but the speaker is shot to hell. People don’t hear me and it sounds like I am on permanent speaker phone. Did a search and it looks like its pretty common (some say SIM card, others hardware…). I’m putting my money on hardware, seeing that if its hooked up to my car bluetooth is works fine.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is amazing!
I’ve never used the Galaxy Note.
You may as well wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 at this point though.
The Note is pretty damn big. I ended up getting one on eBay - resold it since it was too damn big. It’s like an extra inch both width and length compared to my HTC Thunderbolt. Nor would it fit into my regular-sized pockets (but would go into my cargo trousers). You can compare its size to your current phone here. I’ve heard nothing but good concerning the Galaxy S2, and I would probably pick one up myself - but that would mean changing carriers to T-Mobile (from Verizon).
Any chance the S3 will make its way to Verizon?

I rooted my phone. Feels great being able to use all these root-only apps. And finally can take voyeur pics without shutter sound (j/k).
cannot wait to finally drop my old Ally for a Razr. even if I cannot get the maxx, I’ll be happy with either ver.
