Just root your device, and wait for Cyanogenmod 9 to come out for the phone. Last time I checked, LG was still indecisive about ICS being a “viable update” for the G2X. They act like the G2X isn’t powerful enough. It was the FIRST dual core smartphone released in the U.S., with a Tegra 2 GPU, FFS.
I wish the Android Market had the option to delete a device you no longer own. I sold my Nexus One, but it’s still in my device list. I can “hide” it, but it isn’t the same as deleting it. It’s kind of like how eBay handles your recent purchases. I used to be able to delete them, but the option is no longer available. There’s been a lot of complaints about it with no response from Google. Anyone have any input on this subject?
Thanks. I checked and turns out for my specific device and version of the OS, I have to install a new image of the os over the current one so I’ll lose everything anyway.
I guess I’ll just wait for an update or something. The only downside I found with the Thrive so far is so much fucking bloatware on it you can’t get rid of unless you root (which requires a new image of the os).
Got my first smart phone for my birthday. It’s the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch.
Could someone bless me with some knowledge? Essential apps, sites/forums, what I need to know, extending battery life, customizing, etc.
How do I go about removing album art from mp3s on my phone? I know that takes some space.
Can’t believe I didn’t see this earlier! Awesome.
I got an HTC evo 4g. I rooted it, got an extended battery, got a ton of root apps to help performance and flashed a zip that changed the battery icon to a number.
One question: What’s a good ROM to flash for battery life?
I’m now using Weapon G2X for my G2X. By far the most stable rom. And I think it supports 4g, because it says so on my phone’s signal. Haven’t experienced any SoD/random reboots yet so I’m assuming my phone is good to go.
is there a best phone for verizon right now? how is the galaxy nexus? is there anything new that is coming out for them?
You can say ROM, in short, for “new image of the os.” For the most part, all ROM devs want their userbase to wipe clean/factory reset their phone through recovery before flashing a new ROM, to prevent any hiccups, force closes, etc. At best, on stock ROM, you can “freeze” the bloatware to prevent it from running in the background, but that’s about it. Ultimately, if you’re not rooted, the bloatware isn’t going anywhere.
Devs can change the icons to say whatever they want, but for the most part, all of the G2X ROMs will support 4G. What I did to get rid of the SOD issue when I had my G2x was to force the phone to stay awake while charging overnight, if that’s what it was doing to you. Flashing a custom kernel would also fix that problem. I think I was running Faux123’s stock kernel for that phone.
im running eagles blood gingerbread right now on my G2X and its pretty stable. i get a few force closes, but nothing to complain about. wifi, gps, and all that work no problem. i got to play with a galaxy nexus with ICS and its pretty dope. i wonder if itll be wierd with those virtual buttons on the bottom of the screen for the g2x.
^^ The rom I use let’s me use either the stock UI or the UIs from other phones like the sgs2(I don’t know what the names would be)… the virtual buttons on the bottom would be fine.
Has anyone here installed Generation of Chaos? All i get is can’t connect to the server when I try to install the game.
Also, is it possible to watch movies/shows with subtitles?
SGS2 overlay is TouchWiz, owned by Samsung. I’ve never installed Generation of Chaos. For video watching, download MX Video Player from the market. Takes full advantage of dual core phone (only media that does, IIRC), ext subtitle support, and supports non-native formats like avi and mkv.
Good luck.
Does anyone know how to use custom songs on Tap Tap Revenge 4?
**Edit:**I found a guide and got the songs to show up, but I still can’t play them.
Edit2: A few work, but they take forever to load.
I’ve been meaning to do this for quite some time but, how do I tether my samsung galaxy s1 (the first model)? So I can get my 4G internet for my computer.
Either you get a tethering plan for your phone, or you root it, and tether for free. Which variant of the phone do you have?
If anyone here has an HP Touchpad, CM9 Alpha .6 is out. Incorporates the touch screen fix and a few other odds and ends. Grab it on Rootzwiki.
I should be able to tether for free and i’m not sure what you mean by variant?
Just got a Droid x phone I found back in june by the highway working. Before, it would fully charge…then wait for you to use it, and shut down a few seconds into use, then come back on with 10% battery remaining a couple seconds later. It stopped that, and now is charging and is discharging normally. It uses 2.2 like my Huawei s7 tablet…but it makes the tablet obsolete. Internet is faster, mapdroid is faster, it has an 8mp camera vs the tablet’s dual 2mp camera, true capacitive touchscreen (vs the tablet’s resistive) feels good, man. It’s small size means much less weight (I always wear cargo pants…first for the psp, then for the tablet once I got one), and the screen res is great. Since I’m not able to use it as a phone (it has no sim slot), I can use it for entertainment purely, as long as I like. Battery life is great, too. Watching a standard length movie would have my tablet down to 30-50%. This baby only dips to 90%. When I get my Vita, my travel combo will switch from Table + psp to Droid X and Vita. I’m liking this shit. I WOULD update to Gingerbread, but I’ve seen too many people online having problems after doing that. I don’t care about rooting, which the update removes (you can root with an app), so I’m wondering why I can’t just flash the update. Everybody seems to have some crazy-ass convoluted method that involves rooting, while if I understand correctly (and according to Verizon’s guide for manually installing Gingerbread), to upgrade you just need to put the zip on your sd card, power down, then hold the home button while powering back on.
What version of Android is good for the HP Touchpad that will allow me to view YouTube in high quality, good Netflix playback, etc.?
There was a variation of the original SGS for each carrier. Which carrier you on?
To expand on the updating procedure, you would either have to A) update the phone through Menu > Settings > Update (or whatever), or B) what you were getting to at the end of your post, which would be placing the update.zip in the root of your SD, booting to recovery, and flashing it from there. Good chance you’ll lose your apps and whatnot, and will have to download them over, so make sure you sync your Google contacts, or you run the risk losing them. Good luck.
