The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2014)

After just coming from viewing Cap 2 (and seeing ASM 2 this past Saturday), I gotta ask people here which movie they thought was better?

I thought Spidey 2 was a good solid movie with some flaws, but Cap 2 was more enjoyable for me. Either way I was glad with both of them.

I believe the general consensus will tell you that indeed Cap 2 >>>>>>>> ASM 2.

Yyyyep. Cap 2 is a sweetly paced, tight action flick, and IMO in the top tier of the Marvel/Disney batch of movies. Much as I’m one of the ones who enjoyed Spidey 2 despite all that dumb, it’s not even remotely close. Cap 2 wins out easily.

This all could be worse.

It could be Marvel Disk Wars. :coffee:

Honestly, I think it’s because they approach it more as a comic in a movie medium as opposed to a movie about a comic. Avengers didn’t feel forced. Justice LEague sounds like ass already because it looks forced. X-Men looks forced. FF4 was just…not done well regardless of source material. With Spiderman he has such a long mythos that they sort of have free reign to do ‘anything’ with the character - but they still approach it as a summer movie about a comic character. Doesn’t mean it can’t be good, but that vibe you get from the Marvel movies IMO just come from the overall ‘obviously arching’ style that’s built into the movies due to the comic nature.

Saw this movie Saturday. IMO it was solid. It seemed like everything that made this movie awesome got crushed by something that wasn’t needed. The best way I described it to some of my friends was that it is better than alright, but calling it “good” at times seems like a stretch. There are definitely more positives than negatives. A good ride, but I don’t desire watching it again.

Also big ups to Sony on taking liberties with Evil Karma Cole McGrath. During the beginning of the Times Square scene and Electro grabbed the conduit, I swear I had the itch to press L2

Saw it yesterday. Thought it was awesome. I’ve never liked Toby as Peter so i went in super hype. I thought Jamie foxx did great as electro and that teleport was super op.

I don’t know if I would try to compare it to cap 2 because they are two completely different studios with movies that have completely different pacing.

I would go see it again.

And gat damn they did Gwen dirty. I thought they would pull the reigns in slightly from how she died in the comic originally but that was vicious.

So there was supposed to be a post credit scene that ended up getting removed from the final movie or something to that effect. IGN talks about it and I’ve provided the link in the spoiler tags.

Whoops, I fucked up my spoiler tag. Sorry guys.

And yet you didn’t edit the post. Dickhead.

Eh. People upset that Gwen Stacy dies in a movie with the green goblin in it are overreacting imo. (At least that’s my assumption as to why people are upset about that post)

Just flag him till’ he stops to cover up the post. Simple as that.

All trolls get the same treatment.

I would say it’s for 2 reasons:

  1. They are the direct makers of the product
  2. Fox and Sony have a catalog of mistakes, so the likely pulled a page from their guide on how to ruin a franchise, and did the exact opposite. To quote Obi Wan Kenobi - “Who is the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him”.

I can’t get over how perfectly they portrayed Parker’s spider sense in this movie. This is the kind of stuff he’s capable of that no other super hero can do like him. Plus his web slinging is so realistic. Like when he 360 spins up the clock tower as he chases Goblin, the first part of the movie where you actually see him.

You know what surprised me about this movie? How he wasn’t hated by most of the city. In fact they all love him. I wonder if the next few movies will show a degrade in his popularity with the city. They’ve still got a lot of potential behind characters like J.J and Spider Slayer.

The Amazing Spider-Man game that just came out has Carnage in it. They explain his conception through nanobot technology developed by Oscorp that helps the body repair itself by forming a symbiotic relationship with the host. Obviously shit hits the fan, and Kassidy learns how to control the nanobots and thus infects other people and becomes Carnage.

Not to really speak on how well the idea was presented in the game, but…I actually would love to see that translated into one of these movies. It might even happen, considering the last game included a few characters that were actually in this movie. Actually there were quite a few…

Well, they were kinda hinting at Spidey animosity at the beginning of the film, but after Spidey beat Electro at Times Square, everyone was like “yeah, we love im”

If we ever see Carnage in a spidey film, he would probably have to be toned down a lot.
A PG-13 movie having a serial killer villain who advocates anarchy and writes gruesome messages in victims blood may not go well with the family friendly nature of Sony’s franchise.

Either that or he wont be a sociopath, which is the core of the character

Watched it again. I noticed much like the last movie, they cut some material that could’ve helped the movie a bit and I’m not talking about the Mary Jane stuff.
Remember that Indian doctor in the first movie that kept pressing Connors on the serum and then just disappeared? Deleted scene on the DVD has him explain everything to Peter about his parents and then he gets killed by the Lizard. Hoping with this movie they do an extended cut.

Carnage and Venom BOTH would be hard to do ‘properly’ in a movie. Impossible - no. But to truly get the characters across would take work. Venom - at least the Eddie variant - was an anti hero, to best get that across - they would need a mutual villain (like Carnage). The problem is to properly build to that point would require more than one movie.

But as mentioned, they would have to tone Carnage down…and that sort of guts some of the character.

R-rated Venom/Carnage spin off maybe?
