The all encompassing Dc Flash thread

This is purely dedicated to the love of the flash. All of them, though wally is by far the most broken of them all.

What are you guys hoping their gonna lead into…with the new flash series. I hope we get more speedforce stuff…it seems other writers beyond waid have no real connection to messing with the speedforce. Like they want to, but fear how they can fuck it up.

Geoff Johns > Mark Waid. His Flash was just that much better. And he actually EXPLAINED the physics behind the Flash’s powers. Mark Waid used the Speedforce because it’s a cheap plot device for the Flash. And I really disliked Mark Waid’s characterization in the old Flash stuff. It was kind of bland compared to Johns’ writing. That, and Johns made the Rogue’s Gallery cooler.

Definitely some of the reasons as to why I fear this Flash run. And yeah, here’s hoping there isn’t any Speedforce stuff being thrown around in every issue.

waid is the reason i even became a flash fan. Speedforce is where its at.

I’m a Bart Allen Fan.

so, until we get Bart Back, I will not be buying Flash.

Unless it features Bart, natch.

lol well theirs like…one loss.

i stopped buying flash til wally came back haha.

Well, it’s not that I hate Wally, it’s that I think Bart got a raw deal.

so, I ain’t reading Wally’s title, unless Bart is in it.

I don’t care if Bart comes back as Kid Flash, or Impulse, just that he COMES BACK.

The artist behind Flash’s silver age costume Carmine Infantino is a pretty cool guy. Like he told me before, Flash’s suit is classic, no one really messes with his design even to this day - it’s still more or less the same outfit.

i too enjoy bart but only as impulse and kid flash…kid flash was an approperiate maturation of the character. But then they sped him to adult age way too fast…its not bart’s time yet…wally’s only been the flash for a decade and a half.

Waid is only writing 4 issues of the old/new Flash

That makes me happy.

I haven’t read much of Waid’s Flash run. All I really know is that one crucial story of his, The Return of Barry Allen. That definitely opened up my eyes and showed me how cool the Flash can be. That story was one of the first things that got me into DC Comics. It’s just a classic Wally West story.

But yeah, Johns’ Flash is just crazy good. One of the best superhero runs I can think of. The way Johns built up the supporting cast, which included the villains, was pretty unusual for a superhero title. And the build-up to the Blitz story, and issue 200 was just- wow. Then that arc with the Alberto Dose art was an awesome continuation in a new direction. Whatever happened to Dose, anyway? His art reminded me of Risso’s.

Flash got weak somewhere in the middle of Porter’s run, and this recent volume of Flash with Bart was just ass. I just couldn’t understand how anyone could like it. The writing sucked hard, the concept was pedestrian, and there was nothing to it. The fact that they killed Bart to satisfy the “real” Flash fans was just a pathetic waste of a character. There were a lot of garbage of One Year Later plotlines, but Flash got jacked the worst.

that makes me sad.

Oh, come on, Deathy. How bad can Waid on Flash be? I knew you were a Flash fan… I never pegged you for a Waid-hater. I just assumed anyone who likes Flash likes Waid’s Flash. But, like I said, I never fully read Waid’s run. So you gotta explain to me what was so bad about what he did with the Speedforce.

He gave us Cobalt Blue back in 1999. All leading up to issue #150. Quite possibly the worst Flash story ever. I like Waid, but I don’t like him on The Flash. He writes too much involving the Speedforce and it ends up detracting from the characters that actually make the book enjoyable. I just really find his Flash dull and boring. There’s no life to his stories as opposed to Geoff Johns’ masterful run. Geoff let you know exactly what Wally was thinking and how he dealt with his powers on a daily basis. Knowing that he embodies the Speedforce and he lives faster than everyone else and at times he had to force himself to slowdown in order to live at a normal pace.

You don’t see that kind of characterization with Waid. He’ll throw in a couple of ‘haha’ jokes and a few villains and try to sell it. It’s always been said that Waid’s best comic book run was on Captain America with Ron Garney. And it was.

I guess it’s because I like Geoff’s theme for all of his works: Legacy. I really dig that aspect. You get a feel for these characters and you know they have to step it up to live upto their predecessor.

Just looking at the wiki for the Flash and it doesn’t have Cobalt Blue listed AT ALL. That’s how bad it was. And mind you, I own those issues. I’ll have to dig them up and re-read them just to laugh at the horrendousness that was Cobalt Blue. Let’s not forget that this was his second to last arc on the book when he was co-writing with Brian Augustyn.

For whatever reason Speedforce made the Avenger/JLA crossover hella funny.

FLASH: CRAP! I can’t run fast in the Marvel Universe! I can’t access the Speedforce! TEH SPEEDFORCE! DOH!!!

QUICKSILVER: CRAP! I can’t run fast in the DC Universe! I can’t access the Speedforce! TEH SPEEDFORCE! DOH!!!

Well it was something like that, read it a while ago.

yeah then flash got a battery for the marvel universe and started smoking quicknuts on his own terf. kind of stupid idea but funny still.

lol cobalt blue is odd cause it pretty much sets up the flash for the next 100 flashes lol. I mean we all know his daughter is the next to take up the mantle…but since flash deals alot with timetraveling…the death of bart is very odd. His death cannot be permenant at all.

But i’m curious to see if wally’s son grows up to be the slacker he was in kingdom come universe…cause that would be awesome. a fucking slacker flash who abuses his power for his own means but not in a villain kinda way.

i like both geoff and waids run cause they gave me something different, at different stages in my life.

waid’s run-introduced me to flash…and i was a kid so it gave me a fun flash that i didnt think too much of. He pretty much wrote wally as if he was spider-man with some sneakers on

geoff-i had matured and was ready to take on a more mature character where you wanted to know things…why things were done and what made things happen. I didnt need that as a kid cause as a kid i just wanna have a fun adventure without thinking too much.

both runs give me sumtin i need.

Okay, I do love and respect the Flash Legacy, and I do think Wally is the best Flash to wear the red suit. (We’ve been through this in the OLD Flash thread.) Jay is the best Speester period, though.

the thing is, Bart is my favorite character. Do I want him back as the Flash?, no, I didn’t think it was time when he became the Flash, and I still feel that way.

do I want him back as Kid Flash, or better yet, Impulse?, that would be best.

I think Bart got screwed by Editorial, for no good reason. He died for nothing.

You know, after giving it some thought, it makes sense that Bart would die the way he died. Think about it. He always wanted to be a big hero. After all the ridicule he recieved as Impulse, and to a lesser extent, Kid Flash. He really didn’t step his game up until he found out he was able to memorize everything he read.

And he never really faced off against the Rogues before. So, he didn’t really know what to do. He’s probably come across them once or twice with Wally and that’s it. It sucks, yeah. But, that’s how it goes. I do hope they bring him back, though. I’m sure Wally can be able to do it.

Kinda funny, too. Wally was never dead. And yet, Bart managed to get ALL of the Speedforce stuck in him becoming the embodiment of the Speedforce. I might have to look into that when I re-organize my stash and re-read some of the IC stuff.

the whole living embodiment crap is bull. If that was ture, then he should be able to access the memories of all past speedsters and know how to deal with the rogues.
