I’m on the fence about getting the DLC she is the only character I am interested in but I don’t want another character I like but sucks. This happened to me with Poison. I like her a lot but I never play her because I think she is terrible.
What do you guys think about her? Is she good? + frames on normals? Frame traps? Is she generally safe on block? How good is she at zoning --Guile/Raven status, average, or poor? Oh ya, now are her normals? Does she have “good buttons”?
Just want a few ideas/pointers on her before I spend 20 bones on a single character.
If her DLC version is the same as her hacked version - which is most likely the case - then I’d say she’s great. Not top tier material, but definitely strong and without massive flaws.
Alisa is fuckin weird, I cant understand what this character’s gameplan is supposed to be, she has decent normals and “ok” specials including a wonky fireball and a Dp that cant AA worth a shit (unless I’m using it wrong…)
Dunno if the framedata is out there but it doesnt seem like any of her normals are + on block (at least not noticeably + so far). I think her only overhead is the DS f+MP (didnt test the hcf+P~P or hcf+K~P). Her close HP launches for whatever the fuck reason and I’ve yet to find a real use for this aside from making one of the trials awkward as hell to do…
Anyone care to enlighten me to what you’re supposed to do with her <__< ?
How is her fireball recovery? Nice to hear she has an overheard. Is her destroy mode similar to cody picking up his knife, i.e. pretty much worthless, or does it have actually uses?
Sorry for all the questions, I’m just literally on edge, really thinking about getting the DLC but damn, I seriously have ZERO interest in all the other characters. All the people I play and wanted made it in the standard game.
Wouldn’t say that’s what you’re supposed to do with her, but I’ve been playing her as rushdown/frame trap with some zoning there and there and she seemed great.
First off, her DP is a good AA, but you gotta time it right. There’s something about versions as well, but I don’t remember right now, been a while since I touched the hacked version. Also, DES s.HP is basically Lili’s AA Kick, beats all jump ins and you can tag cancel it into a full combo. Her close HP was mostly useful during juggle combos since you can CADC it and - don’t quote me on this as I have no frame data - Alisa has one of the fastest forward dashes I’ve seen in this game.
Don’t underestimate her fireball. You won’t win fireball wars with it, but it works wonders against characters with no innate way against fireballs. The MP version can cover both the ground and the air if spaced right, and the recovery on them is pretty sweet.
DES = Frame traps and chip damage. Combo damage on DES is limited since most of her specials are locked out, but at least you can transit out of it using Boot/Dual Boot.
heh, I guess I can see the frametrap mindset, almost all of her normals move her forward and can help you keep the momentum… I havent had much success with her DP tbh, it looks like she’s spinning but the move only has a hitbox on the front, she also moves a bit forward when she does it so it almost always whiffs if theyre going for a close/deep jump-in, and its a bit slow…
I’m using airthrow as an AA/air-to-air so far and its pretty nice, it beats alot of stuff and you dont get Counterhit for attempting an airthrow so even if you fuck up its just that one hit =D
Early c.HPs can help her avoid crossups/jump-ins, she has no crossups and her jump-ins are meh (j.hk is the go-to from the looks of it), her c.MP hits low and its cancellable, nice range on it too.
Oh shit, completely forgot about the CADC shit, I’ll try that and see… maybe she has a fraudulent loop like Raven =o

Any ideas for boost/tag follow-ups? and BnBs in general?
So far my “BnB” is basically c.lp~[s.mk~s.mp] DES s.lp~s.mp~c.hp (209dmg) or end with s.hp xx tag cancel (203+)
in the corner i do c.lp~[s.mk~s.mp] DES c.mp xx qcb.MP s.MP s.HP (294) you can tag cancel for more damage.
Meterless BNB so far (midscreen mainly, the clHP launch messes it up in the corner. I use sMP instead of sHP in corner for 281 damage):
cLP>cLP>cMK xx qcbK>(far)sHP xx hcfP>K 299 damage.
EDIT: Just saw you can link cLP to (far)sHP. so this becomes
cLP>cLP>(far)sHP xx qcbK>sHP xx hcfP>K 323 damage. 1 or 2 frame link. Can’t tell.
Corner DES: This is a poor, unconfirmed starter, but it IS a low that can hit from 2 character widths away.
cHP(1 hit) xx qcbP>sLP xx hcfP>K 340 damage
Meterless Tag Entry combo: sMK-sMP DES xx hcfP>K This doesn’t do great damage, haven’t found anything better yet though. Looking for suggestions.
Dual Boot Uppercut does huge damage (150) so it seems to be the best combo ender.
Just a note, I was discovering that s.hp is a crouchable high, so in the case of the above bnb on a crouching opponent, the original with c.mk suffices.
Too bad Alisa’s backdash is horrible. You have years to walk up to her and punish with a cross-rush combo.
The s.lp xx st.mp chain is safe vs 3 frame pokes so it’s a safe way to hit confirm and a good mixup with throw. Her chainsaw overhead can be tag canceled and partner can then combo with 4-5f move but the timing is a little tight.
And yeah, Alisa’s damage output is pretty low. A lot of tricky links for little reward which is quite unfortunate… but I think they gave her low damage output because of the insane amount of chip damage she can do in destruction mode.
1 or 2 frame. Feels like 1 but I plink most links so I’m a bad judge. But like Hippo said, far sHP whiffs on crouching.
I’m also finding that she has the same problem as Asuka with her super. The cinematic activates on the 3rd hit, but hit 2 and 3 miss frequently off of a juggle.
I have had plenty of fun tag cancelling off of her DP into a nice Lars combo, so yeah I fully endorse her dp tag cancel. That and her qcb special in DEST (Is that double cut?) provide a lot of blockun for tag cancelling.
Also I don’t know if anyone saw Desk’s new combo video, but it looks like Alisa has plenty of combos in the corner, as she can link off of her far.mk>mp chain to DEST into a full combo. I was having trouble earlier trying to link her DEST attacks but it looks like she can.
