The Akuma Thread

No problem. Don’t know why but I find that it is better to give a comprehensive answer, just to open up people’s options than to give them kind of simple answer because that can sometimes leave the user with a ‘tunnel vision’ view of the situation. I prefer to open things out in my responses to questions.

Although I will admit that OZ is more straight to point than I when answering questions so for straight forward answers which won’t require you to read a mini thesis, he is the man! :D.

That said, about your point in bold.

Juri isn’t really a bad point character in my eyes. She’s pretty well rounded in this game in my opinion just like Akuma making them pretty good tag partners.

In all honesty, you can run that team both ways in my opinion because both of those characters will do quite a bit of damage off of their respective set-ups.

Of course you also have the great pleasure as well to hear Akuma call out people’s names as well albeit for Juri, it isn’t the nicest: ‘KUSO!’

Gee Capcom, can’t you guys do the same for my own team :rolleyes:!?

Granted, there some obstacles to overcome such as both of them having low health limits and the fact that Juri is more of a ‘counter-poker’ in footsies more than anything which can suck pretty bad if you don’t have life lead and you’re being lamed out HARD by your opponent as they can just turtle up and anti-air accordingly if you try to approach with dive kick, jumps and what not.

In my opinion, I think Akuma’s best partners are the following:

Juri
Lili
The Mishimas (but really anyone really works with them)
Xiaoyu isn’t a bad option

He also kind of works well with the Shadaloo guys: M.Bison, Balrog & Vega.

Reasons why would be kind of beyond the scope of the thread and they would need to be put in the ‘Partner Thread’ but meh I have no problem explaining why here. :slight_smile:

Maybe I’ll try Akuma/Xiaoyu then. I like Xiaoyu but I have her partnered up with Juri and they both have troubles when it comes to opponent’s who can bully them, like Rolento or Cammy. They do have great Pandora synergy though.

I like the combination. Xiaoyu does big damage and allows safe tags. Songi, in the irc chat, can give you xiaoyu tips. Just ignore his negativity. :wink:

Akuma:

Far standing HK: when 2nd hit comes out, a hitbox to hit crouching opponents has been added. Frames have also been tweaked from (on hit +5 frames/on block ±0) to (on hit +6 frames/on block -2).
• Ashura Senku (Punch version): movement distance has been decreased, invincibility window has been decreased so that it is only available from frames 1 to 34, and overall animation increased from 61 frames to 63.
• Ashura Senku (Kick version): movement distance has been decreased, invincibility window has been decreased so that it’s only available from frames 1 to 28, and overall animation increased from 54 frames to 59.
• Goshoryuken (MP and HP versions): pushback on block decreased, block stun decreased by 5 frames, 2nd hit does not connect on crouching opponents, and the disadvantage on block for the first hit decreased by 10 frames.

So we have sf4’s far hk now that hits crouches on block and we can’t abuse teleports and safe dps switch cancelled like we used to. I’m okay with this. Akuma will be better on offense and still have plenty of ways to get his partner in.

Won’t the buff to far HK also allow for mostly safe tag-ins as well? That could be useful with the nerf to DP xx switch cancel.

This makes Akuma even more enticing…one of the main reasons I used Ken over Akuma is because I felt that Ken was better at getting his partner to tag in safely, mainly due to his HP DP which reaches farther than Akuma’s. I feel that will be reversed in 2013.

He hates Ken too :eek: . Nah don’t worry. He only gets really salty vs me. :smiley:

He can also safe tag his partner in with cl.hk on block, ex fireball then raw tag, and I think demonflip grab raw tag.

Meh but here comes safe-ish poking. It’s made better now in the fact that the only people who will be able to legitimately punish this move other than yourself will be Ken and Zangief assuming they have super since Julia’s Super is no longer a 1 framer and Chun Li’s is a 3 framer.

You can always do a method JR Rodriguez. He gets a knockdown and whiffs far hk and cancels the last frames into raging demon just as the opponent gets up.

I know this is probably a dumb question, but you can cancel any of his normals at any time into a demon, correct?

Yup and at anytime. Recovery, active, and startup frames. For example, if your sweep gets blocked and you opponent goes for a punish, you can cancel the recovery of your sweep into raging demon and possibly punish their punish. :sunglasses:

Before I bought the quick combo editor, I used to just do the last 3 inputs slowly, but some punishes require quick raging demon inputs. :frowning:

607 damage.

Too bad that there probably aren’t too many opportunities to land this…I don’t see many people raw tagging when they’re in the corner. :stuck_out_tongue:

In 2013 I can see it being easier to land variants of this…right now if you combo into EX Tatsu with a hit-confirm (like cr.mp, cr.mp), the best you can do (at least from my short experimenting), is;

cr.:mp:, cr.:mp: xx EX Tatsu, far st.:hk:, cr.:hp: xx EX Red Fireball, cr.:hp: xx EX Red Fireball, cr.:hp: xx :hp: Goshoryuken

526 damage.

In theory, in 2013 you’ll be able to do;

cr.:mp:, cr.:mp: xx EX Tatsu, far st.:hp: xx EX Red Fireball, far st.:hp: xx EX Red Fireball, far st.:hp: xx :hp: Goshoryuken

I think that should do more damage.

Overall I think our damage output will increase even more with far standing :hp: being cancellable, among other things.

I’m guessing most of you already know all this and have other high damaging combos, but I still want to share. I want to keep these character boards alive. :wink:

They may not want to raw tag in the corner but by blowing up someone with raw launcher whilst they are in the corner, you can get quite a bit of damage off of one in the corner by following these combo pathways past the EX Tatsu.

Cr.:hp: to EX Red Fireball is a little difficult to do in the corner, hence sometimes it’s best to go for cr.:mp: chained into cr.:hp: then do the red fireball for less damage but at least it’s guaranteed.

Or Cl st.:mp: > walk forwards > st.:hp: > EX Red Fireball but there is a risk that the cl st.:mp: can whiff if done too late or too early.

Also let’s not forget the cl st.:hk: buff as well as EX Fireball being eliminated from the air combo limit. It sucks right now considering the best that you can do with it is only an EX SRK afterwards. :lame:. In theory he should be able to do EX Fireball and then connect normals afterwards.

Wait by ‘EX Fireball’ you do mean EX Red Fireball though right?

Hmm…with the buff to clst.:hk: it looks like it will be possible to do (in the corner);

EX tatsu, far :hk:, clst.:hk: xx Misogi

Probably not worth the meter though. I’m thinking it’s better to do that off of a tag-in, so you just do far :hk:, clst.:hk: xx Misogi.
