The AE Sakura Changes Wild Speculation Thread

Sakura VS Yang isn’t too hard at all. I’d personally (And I stress, PERSONALLY) say it’s 6-4 in Sak’s favor. It’s obvious that you have to be able to adjust and counter the dive kick pressure, but most people tend to stay in Yang’s c.mk range, which is deadly as Yang can combo into his chop/slash (No idea what it’s called.) and that’s SERIOUS damage. Ignore EX Shunpu shenanigans and just got for what works best. Yang has a hard time with lk shunpu pressure without EX Meter. Bait the (EX)up-kicks, and punish severely. Yang’s stun threshold is average. Sak can take him down if she’s patient, but persistent. I think I’ve only lost to Yang the day my arcade got AE. Haven’t taken an L from him since.

So a summarised verison of how she got better?

I know her fireball is better, she got a small DP damage buff, far st.mp is cancellable, anything else?

Don’t quote me on these, as they’re based just on my experiences.

-Dash might be a frame or two faster.
-Smaller or lowered hitbox on Shinku Tengyo Hadoken (It won’t hit people attempting a crossup.)
-Close standing MP recovers faster.
-Fireballs either start up or recover faster. I’m not positive on which.
-Far standing MK is harder to be hit out of.
-Air Shunpu hits airborne opponent multiple times.

There’s more, but I’m still figuring things out.

will be more frames advantage after HP shou FADC?

So is she a lot better with these changes? I know she’ll still have a tough time getting in people who play defensively.

It seems like she’ll be around mid tier with these changes, what do you guys think?

I saw someone doing ex.tatsu -> close.mk -> dash under. AFAIK, you can’t do that in super, or maybe im just failing right now in training mode

I’m starting to get more hyped about AE again. Soon I will re-read this whole thread. When is the console release? Next month?

On another note, are there any people here who have actually experienced the new AE sakura? I’m sticking with her regardless but just wanted to know which of her normals have been modified.

I got kicked in the face by a jumping Guile when I tried anti-air U2. He got hit by the fireball, too, of course…but it was still kinda lame. I mean, the move should have enough invincibility to cover the first few active frames…considering that AA is the entire purpose of the move.

And, cl.mp -> cr.mk worked, though I fail to see the use. cl.mp pushes too far for st.lk to hit. I should try cr.hp next time.
cl.mp doesn’t feel as Cammy-like as I had hoped, though…

EDIT Okay, I changed my mind after fiddling around with cl.mp a bit more. st.lk can connect after cl.mp, just have to have the right distance and the opponent’s hit stun animation has to cooperate…kinda like Sakura’s other links.

Also, can do cl.mp > cr.hp.

Can any other AE Sak player tell me if her stun damage got reduced? I played against a Cody and caught him good with a few combos and was persistent throughout the round, only to see that he was near death and not stunned. This also happened against a Rog.

Anyone think that she is actually this high? Like Honda, Guile, Rose, Dhalsim are below her and they’re still gonna give her a hard time.

Yeah, that tier list is interesting. I don’t know what they did that buffed Saku that much. AE is gonna be gdlk.

Well Sakura pretty much got nothing but buffs while her other matchups got nerfed. Two of the worst matchups for Sakura; Guile and Blanka got nerfed pretty badly. Sakura can lame it out against Guile now that he doesn’t build meter easily, if you get one jump in combo that’s gonna be a pretty big life lead that you can hold on to easily. As for Blanka he can’t spam his Blanka balls from full screen anymore without getting punished.

Yeah I don’t think she is really that high. She still has her bad wakeup and bad reversal

While she’s hardly top tier it seems to me that the ae changes have widened the gap between the average characters and the really good characters and it seems to me that the only reason people are saying she’s as high as she is is mainly just because she’s fallen somewhere in the middle of that gap. I don’t think she’s moved much I think the other characters have moved below her.

A tier huh… I’m sure they’ll change it again. I can’t see how she is A tier. She barely got any buffs at all. Look at the buffs Makoto got. Those are real buffs. How can she jump from D tier to A tier just cos a few characters got some slight nerfs?

I really don’t think Guile is one of her worst matchups. The only real thing that gives Guile advantage is his fast recovery on sonic boom and his air throw.
Balrog is far worse for Sakura than Guile.

There are far worse matchups than Guile (and Balrog for that matter).

Anyway, random question. Is it possible to juggle U2 of an air tatsu in AE? Does anyone know what kind of state air tatsu leaves you in?

Barely any buffs at all? I played SSF4 AE in Chicago and she seems to have gotten really good buffs even with the fact that her matchups are easier. Recovery on fireball is better, hitboxs are bigger (minus what they did to U2’s hitbox), Damage is amazing, multi-hit tatsu, almost no recovery on Fully charged fireballs, the list goes on. If the top players like Daigo, Tokido, Mago, and other players are saying it, then I would kinda believe them. No disrespect, but she seems to be getting a lot of attention these days.
