Are you serious? Momentum is another one of those idiotic sports cliches that I wish would go away. It doesn’t exist.
While momentum may not exist, luck certainly does and can affect a game/series. There were a ton of breaks that did not go Clevelands way and they could have affected the game.
There are so many possibilities, that you can’t just say “oh well they lost by 9 anyways”, events are not independent here.
It’s why baseball can be so random. If Cleveland has a lead, they probably start Westbrook in the 7th and hook him as soon as theres trouble. Boston coulda scored 6 in the early innings and this wouldnt even have mattered. But to say that Lofton’s run had no effect on the game just because they lost by 9 is ridiculous. Are you gonna say Bartman didnt matter because they lost by like 7?
Bartman didnt matter, the very next pitch was a routine ground ball hit to a Gold Glove SS that I could have handled and he botched it. Bartman didnt cost them that game either, bad defense and bad pitching did.
I dont get you can say Bartman didn’t matter, but Gonzalez’s play did. At worst, if Alou makes the play, the sac fly that scores the winning run ends up being a fly ball and the inning is over. Who knows what might’ve happened then.
To say Bartman had no effect on the game isn’t right. Although you are right that people made too much of a deal of it, (like in the case with Lofton) both plays changed the way the game ended. True, Gonzalez made a stupid error, but that wouldnt have cost them the game if it wasnt for Bartman.
Bartman didnt have an effect on the game, they hit a weak routine Groundball to the SS on the very next play. That had an effect on the game, its not hard to see if you have an actual capacity for thought.
They don’t take the lead without Bartman happening.

Man, the Rockies can’t get a break; I think the real question is how many runs can the Red Sox make… can they beat the record for most runs in a game? let alone a world series game?
