Substitute Mortal Kombat 2 for it or something…I’d play it if I were in town for the tournament.
They have that Anniversary Edition SF cabinet by the change machines. I’m pretty sure it has ST along with the Alpha games.
that one’s emulator status… supposedly they got a real one a while back…
No CVS2 at the tourney? Now I don’t feel so bad about not being able to go
Depending on the character, Arcana Heart has the same problems as HNK (though not as bad). Lots of infinite (or really long) loops with various characters.
Though it would probably bring in a lot of money because nerds like anime girls with big boobies.
That’s a rather harsh statement to make. As a nerd, I am extremely offended by how shallow you make nerds seem.
I like small boobies, too. Just as long as you throw some tentacles and shit in there.
lol i agree im a nerd too and big boobies dont really turn me on. I rather stick with the small and average as in B =] lol
i dont know where this stuff is going
Into the gutter.
Gutter trash!
i prefer them small
lol for lolis
CVS2 is now in the guilty gear showcase cab. Slash will not be there this week, but i hear that it will be back in for the tourney. not sure about cvs2, but there is a good chance it will be goo dto go as well
Ok… so… who actually is running the fighting games at Scandia? I’d like to know so I can inquire as to what future plans are, etc . etc…
And that CVS2 tourney coming up… When is it? This weekend, right? Did anyone ever talk to the host about making the tournament 3 on 3 one player per character?
nick, i haven’t seen you post on here forever! as for the tournament it is this saturday the 9th, signups start at 4pm and tourney will start at 5pm (i think that is how kris is running it).
Chris the tech at scandia is the one in charge of the arcade. right now he is interested in Melty blood or arcana heart, i think whichever one he comes across first. I hear DR is also a consideration.
3 on 3 guilty gear i have no clue on you’ll have to ask kris for that
I don’t mean 3 on 3 GG. I mean 3 on 3 CVS 2. One person plays one character so it’s a true 3 on 3 TEAM tournament. None of this “one person can carry the whole team because everything is reset every match” crap.
I want to takl to Chris the tech. I really would like it if he didn’t get gimmick games like Melty Blood or Arcana Heart. I mean, I know i’d play them, but average gamer here in the US doesn’t want to look at a bunch of big eyed school girls running around quackin’ around. Although i’d take Heart over MB so I could at least play as The Witching Hour.
What they should focus on is getting people to play there regular. That means staple games that people will play and keep playing and prices that aren’t ridiculous like they are now. I mean, games like HnK are fun for an evening or so but after a weekend, no one cares = the game probably didn’t even earn the $500 or so it cost to bring in.
Scandia needs to work at providing an experience that is better than the home one. So far, at home, I have better sticks and am NOT PAYING 50 CENTS A GAME FOR 15 YEAR OLD GAMES.
Sweet. I’m thinking of coming up on Friday but I am not completely sure yet. It really depends on how tired I am when I get off work.
As much as I like all those “gimmick” games I have to agree with Nick. I think you said it right Dan when you told me that all those games like Arcana, Melty, HnK and so forth are for East Coast people. Those games bring in HUGE competition out there but not so much here. Also if we are to encourage new players we should have games that they can easily get their hands on and practice. Not everyone cares enough to get their hands on PS2 imports or making sure the version of the game they are playing is the best possible conversion.
Scandia is definitely due for T5DR. Then again with T6 coming out pretty soon…I dunno.
Also not to talk shit but I will once again mention the DDR foos at Scandia would probably eat up Melty Blood or Arcana Heart.
Tekken 6 is already out. It came out in November. Let’s make Scandia the first arcade to receive it in the US!!! :wow:
Canada has Tekken 6

Last boss is cheap!
I know
What I meant was that it probably was coming to the States soon so it would be silly for Scandia to get T5DR.
I know MarkMan from SDTekken was talking about purchasing the board for $5K. Not sure if he went through with it though.
sup nick, it’s kris.
i agree with you, and most of what you said was conveyed to chris at some point or another. i’m not at scandia much in the daytime anymore, but when chris first came on as tech and put fighting games in the showcase cabs, i used to swing by every now and then and give him some feedback from our pov as the gamers/customers. he’s chill, and is open to feedback… but that doesn’t necessarily mean shit’s gonna happen though. it sucks, but some of the shit is beyond his control, and you’d really have to appeal to the boss. and rival could probably tell you… the boss doesn’t know the meaning of open communication. either that or he just doesn’t agree with what we think.
as far as dropping the cost to one token per game, which to me is the biggest issue, the constant response is that the fighting games don’t account for shit in terms of their arcade income. and they feel that dropping cost would mean we’d be hanging out there without making them much money. chris said it wasn’t out of the question, but they’d want to see the fighting games make money first. catch-fuckin-22. i know that i’d probably be there more than once every one or two weeks if the games weren’t so fuckin’ expensive. hopefully everyone else feels the same way and maybe we can appeal to the boss with that.
as far as game selection… just tell chris what you think they should have. i personally wanted some garou up in that bitch, and he was cool enough to oblige. he was working on getting dr, but i don’t know anymore. i think the main concerns are the price and availability. i also don’t think it was anyone’s idea except chris’ to get hnk. i think maybe it’s sorta our fault we weren’t vocal enough against it, haha. chris told me though that they already spent a bunch investing in improving the fighting games, so i’m not sure how much they have left budgeted for more games (unless they were hella cheap).
as for maintenance, i think part of it is just that chris isn’t as into fighting games as we are, and isn’t as adamant about getting our shit fixed to perfection all the time. he’s got other shit to do on the job, so i guess that sorta makes sense. you could probably let him know if shit is buggin’ out, but it’s not like he’s gonna check on it often on his own.
nick, if you’re ever out in rp in the daytime, he’s usually there on weekdays. near the bathrooms is the little tech room and you could probably talk to him a bit. he’s a tall dude with glasses. i’ll see if tony can hook it up with his e-mail, and you could contact that way too.
you coming out on saturday?
ninja edit:
…and i’m not sure if cvs2 is gonna even be up and running this saturday. if it is, and if everyone wanted to, then i guess we could do 3 on 3. if not this time, then at least next time. i think it’d be fun to do gimmick shit like that… some other people also mentioned wanting to do some sort of low-tier marvel next time.
Stools. I’m probably the only one, but I’d like to see stools at Scandia. FFA and SFSU both have them.
As for new games, maybe instead of a new game Scandia should get another show case cab for CVS2? It kind of sucks to be bumping elbows while I’m trying to pull off my rekkas.
I have a lot of thoughts about the tech, but mostly it comes down to my opinion that blocking low is not perfection, it’s a necessity. You don’t see DDR machines that can’t take more than one input at a time.
edit: I forgot to mention that I know that SFSU is run differently than Scandia. But still, I don’t care if fighters are low in priority, but they shouldn’t be so low as to not be fixed when there’s something clearly broken.
parry is right, stools is a must-have. but im not going to say too many bad things about scandia, lets not forget how it was this time last year? there was no showcase, no p360s, they were in a horrible location where we all had to keep on moving to the side so people could walk through. Jeff the old tech didn’t care about fighting games, he had the tekken card machine the day they got it, but never installed. 2 years later when chris shows up it gets it, a little late but nonetheles. Thats what we all need to remember
Word is bond. Rivival and I do mention to each other often that it’s far better now than it ever was.
But to me right now it’s like Scandia is the final level in a game that was designed to be overly hard, annoying and frustrating. Structured in such a way that all this work goes into it but steps have been taken to keep people from being able to enjoy it or even see it.
And making it expensive works against them in two ways. The dedicated players have other means to play these games that makes 50 cents just about enough to not be worth it.
New players don’t want to lose a dollar every two times they get routed by Rival in 16 seconds. Who wants to pay $1 for what equates to less than a minute of actual playing time?
People know when Street Fighter 2 came out. They also know that the game was 25 cents back then. How insulting it is to be deemed as someone stupid enough to pay twice as much 16 years later.
The center of competition for these games charge half the price. I know Scandia wants to make money, but deciding to run a business in less than optimal fashion is ludicrous. And I don’t mean the rapper. Eh? EH?
… I thought it was funny…
Thing is, it sounds like a lack of respect. I’m all for being in on what’s going on and doing what I can to contribute, but not in a fashino to where I have to do things like pay for overpriced things in order to maybe perhaps in the future get a fair price. I see this stuff happen way to often with these kinds of things. And the business motto of “YOU have to make MY business make money before I’ll make it appealing to you” is not a good one.
Scandia’s arcade is empty most of the time I go there on Fridays and Saturdays save for maybe one random here and there. We’ll waste some Q’s on, like, Anniversary Edition just to justify the trip but we usually end up leaving.
So whatever approach they’re taking right now isn’t working.
And while one of my favorite elements of the FG scene is it’s ability to congregate and make something out of nothing, I don’t want to see the scene get gouged and exploited by some place because of our potential to create solid business. I appreciate all the work they’ve done, but if they want money, they still have to work toward providing something that is worth the prices charged.
Higher prices are for NEWER games in PERFECT condition. With PROPER settings. Junky sticks on a 9 year old game for 50 cents is not going to be money.
I personally know that I feel better spending $1 for 4 games and will likely do so. I feel less inclined to spend $1 for two games because it really drives home the point that i’m spending money… and lots of it, comparitively, on video games that I have at home. That’s not something they should want me realizing.
People are more inclined to travel when they know they can get a good run out of it. 4 games at $2 won’t move a person to leave on a Friday night but 8 games at $2 is far more likely to.
A person is far more likely to waste 25 cents than 50, which feels like half a dollar (because it is).
“Make us money and we’ll make our business worth it later, maybe.” What a sumb approach.
