You didn’t play too bad. I would suggest using SA3 since SA1 is garbage and SA3 generally has way more uses. Use a lot more s.HK and s.MP against shotos. s.MK isn’t bad either. Dash in and back throw occasionally once you start building their stun up with the normals to keep them on their toes and build up their stun so you can land a death combo if they get stunned. Keep naked chicken wings to a minimum. Don’t use them outside of combos unless you’re doing an instant one on their wake up. They’re ok on occasion to wear down the last bit of an opponent’s health or just to totally throw something different for them to parry but the reward is little and generally a lot more risk involved against better players. Luckily the Ken you were fighting was garbage any way.
Really appreciate the feedback. I avoid SA3 at the minute because I can’t seem to get the best out of it. I’ll try and make the transition. I’ve just uploaded a match I just had against an Elena. I was quite proud of the way I played. Pulled off multiple backward throws and finished with a juggle. I’ll put it on here in a second. What other ways can I setup throws and command grab?
you know we got matched in ranked one time. i waited like 10 god damn minutes for you to ready. then i just blew up my xbox and threw it out the window.
We aren’t all super gods at 3s, so to us, dyne is good. I wonder if people like daigo is like “what? arturo? p.champ? combo fiend?! pshh, you idiots think they’re good?! lol”
Well this is 2011 where a lot more people come in pretty fresh to the SF boat or play on less of a serious level in general. If someone is clearly above their skill level (which may be really low) then they consider the other guy good. There’s just a lot more patting on the back these days in general than in the old days where everyone was just trying to better and would keep saying they were better even though they initially weren’t until they were finally better. Once MVC2 died that hard passion to be totally better than the other guy just kinda died off for more of a admire people better than you approach. Which stems from a lot of new entry people coming that are fine with just playing a character and then sitting back and admiring whoever is initially better with their character.
It’s kind of a thing that a lot of the older players in my local area have a problem with also. They don’t even like it when people suck up to the real big guys like Daigo so they especially won’t like it when you suck up to the decent guy that just happens to put more work in the game than you do. If you’re sucking up to the “decent” guy they look at it as you’re too lazy to be as good as he is. It’s just the old way to not give somebody props unless they do some really fucking good shit. They otherwise just point out your mistakes because they feel that pointing out how you’re fucking up is more important to your success than patting backs for winning one. Especially when they’re trying to stay better than you any way.
I personally don’t really care either way since the 3rd Strike scene in general was pretty chill and pat on the back oriented outside of maybe the west coast where most of the best players outside of Justin were any way. West coast seemed to play for that old school “stop fucking up” style of play that keeps them competitive more so than being cool with being not as good as the guy that’s good. It was fun playing against Amir @ Evo in 2008 because like the first match we played I was pretty much getting nothing but heckled by the west coast guys watching. Shit like “yo fuck this dude up…he picking some low tier ass character, he’s not that good, he don’t got those hit confirms like u do blah blah blah”. I wasn’t surprised by it or anything because I knew that’s the way they played and cheered each other over there. It was just another match for me. Of course when I beat him in the first match everyone went dead silent after that and the random guys that lost out early came running over to watch the rest in person because the match was up on the big screen at the time. I ended up losing the set but it was good to at least just shut them up for a bit. LOL.
Afterwards we shook hands and I could tell he was nervous about losing since it was only a couple bnb misses that I made when I was about to win the set in the second match that turned things around for him. If it wasn’t for that I would have automatically been in top 8 winners on Sunday. Instead he got his composure after that and then I started to flub on things after that which got him to come back and win the set.
Like I said I personally don’t really have a problem with it but if you wanna be good you definitely have to more so focus on wanting to beat the good guys than so much of the back patting. Being as good or better than Dyne pretty much involves just working at being good at the game. You can easily be as good as him with the effort put in and that’s really what people like Ryan are trying to get at. The old guys want warriors.
I’m not so much patting them on the back, but being greatfull for what they did for my game. Dyne got me set up on ggpo. He and rockmansrk gave me match after match after match even though it was no contest. By fighting those two, I got a grasp of my character and started improving. Anytime someone is good at a game, but doesn’t take on an asshole since of entitlement, I give props. The help the community grow instead of turning people away with a “omg you are terrible, don’t waste my time asking for a match you scrub.”
Well you can’t really be grateful for what they did without patting them on the back. For us it’s more interesting to see you guys come out and be able to rise up over the good guys through hard work than just being stagnant as the guys that prop them up.
I look forward to seeing who comes out of the new pot with some game. I personally don’t want to see the forums just filled with people who need all kinds of help with the game a year from now. Looking forward to seeing who really improves.
Don’t let go of low block when you’re in the corner against Genei Jin unless you see something really obvious or know that not getting out will cause you to die.
there are much better players on ggpo that still play newer players and give them plenty of feedback and criticism. nica plays basically anyone and if you ask he’ll give you things to work on or think about. kofiend whenever hes on too. if you’re ec you need to be playing ec people or you’re just learning online specific stuff that will screw with your playing offline. daemon, tweleve, mutantxp, etc. they used to play on ggpo from time to time and they all play offline mostly.
even then it’s a different world, especially on emu it’s a massive difference going from pc ggpo to arcade cab.
you are wowed by dyne because you don’t know enough to understand what he’s doing and see how stupid and guessy it is. i bet people also at one point think louis is amazing because he can demolish them in 3 seconds because playing guess strike on pc ggpo works amazingly well. perspective is warped by emu ggpo. it makes 3s look like something else.
