^^ Again, what is with these Alex players picking Stun Gun? Seriously? I don’t know about the masses but whenever I pick up a fighter and mess around I check online for combos, which super is the best, tiers, etc. And time and time again, the Stun Gun is considered worthless. If you google ‘3rd strike Strategy’ the SRK Wiki is the 7th link, and even the Eventhubs section is in the top 3. There’s no excuse here.
That was an ‘okay’ Makoto. She’s hard to use. If you’re familar with shoto characters or the ST cast Makoto can come off as a shock because she plays much differently than them. Shit, her Sweep is a cr.HP, that alone can mindfuck some people.
Makoto was the first character I picked, and the only character I use. I don’t think she’s hard to learn, but maybe hard to master and use effectively. There’s definitely some execution stuff you have to get down. I’ve come across maybe, two or three Makoto’s online that know how to play her. It doesn’t seem like she’s very popular. That reminds me, almost no one picks Chun. I’ve come across more Hugo’s than Chun’s AND Yun’s for that matter. Weird.
Yeah, I come across a lot of Alex’s that use Stun-Gun Head Butt and my first thought it is “Oh man.” They usually execute at the most random and desperate times and I usually hit them out of it. “No escape!” Suuuuure.
Chun and Yun require a lot more effort to be scary than people make them out to be. You don’t just press one button and learn a reversal and are a big threat with them like the new games. Most of the mid cast is easier to just mash on shit with and lag and be successful with.
I would agree and edit my post to reflect that. By watching high level Makoto action a non-Makoto user that wants to learn her gets the impression that:
1: You have to play super aggressively (pretend she’s a KOF character).
2: Try and grab them whenever close enough to do so.
A lot of people get that out of watching (that and learning her TOD) and they somehow translate Aggressive into mashing. They get the grab part all right though. I’ve played so many Makoto’s that desperately mash buttons and if they’re cornered they either try to jump out, do cr.MK, or random EX Hayate. That, and just jumping on wakeup, I have quite a few vids showing Makoto’s just holding up after getting knocked down all the time. It’s retarded.
Makoto is meant to have a hard time when she’s trapped. There isn’t a whole lot you can do.
